Choosing where to live in Edinburgh usually comes down to a few practical questions. How far will you have to travel to university? What will your weekly rent cover? And will the accommodation give you enough space to study while still having places to relax?
Gateway Apartments Edinburgh is located on Montgomery Street, close to Leith Walk and within reach of Edinburgh's universities, shops and transport links. Students can choose between studios and shared apartments, with different room types available at different price points.
The property also includes study rooms, a lounge, cinema room and fitness studio, while electricity, gas, heating, water and Wi-Fi are included in the rent. For students who want to keep their accommodation costs predictable and stay well connected to central Edinburgh, Gateway Apartments student accommodation in Edinburgh is worth considering.
Address: 29 Montgomery Street, Edinburgh EH7 5BH, United Kingdom
Gateway Apartments is situated on Montgomery Street, just off Leith Walk. The location puts students close to several bus routes and within reach of Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station, while the Leith Walk tram stop provides another way to travel around the city.
The surrounding area has plenty of places that students use during a normal week. Tesco Express, Sainsbury's Local, Lidl, Co-op Food and Marks & Spencer are nearby for groceries and household essentials.
Leith Walk also has a good selection of cafés and restaurants. Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Caffè Nero and Artisan Roast are useful stops between lectures, while local restaurants and food spots along the street give students plenty of choice when they want to eat out.
Students can also reach St James Quarter and Princes Street for larger shopping trips. Stockbridge Market is another option at the weekend, particularly if you're looking for independent stalls and local produce.
The right accommodation needs to work around your routine rather than add to it. Gateway Apartments Edinburgh combines different room layouts with facilities that cover studying, socialising and everyday tasks.
Some of the reasons students choose Gateway Apartments include:
Private studios and shared apartments at different weekly prices.
Electricity, gas, heating, water and Wi-Fi included in the rent.
Dedicated study rooms for coursework and revision.
Lounge and cinema room for time away from academic work.
On-site fitness studio.
On-site laundry facilities.
Secure door entry and CCTV.
24-hour security and on-site security support.
Car parking for residents.
Good access to buses, trams and Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station.
The property can therefore suit students with different priorities. Someone looking for a private studio has that option, while students who prefer sharing can choose a two- or three-bedroom apartment.
Gateway Apartments offers both shared apartments and private studios. The range in weekly prices means students can compare accommodation based on how much space they need and how much they want to spend.

The Premier 2 Bed and Premier 3 Bed options are suited to students who prefer sharing their living space with other residents.
Sharing an apartment can reduce the weekly cost compared with some private studio options, while still giving residents their own bedroom and access to shared facilities.
Students who prefer more independence can choose from the Premier, Classic and Superior studio options.
A studio keeps your living space, study area and kitchen within one private unit. The higher-priced options give students a choice if they want additional space or a different layout.
The Split Superior Studio with View is the highest-priced option listed at Gateway Apartments, starting from £335 per week.
Its split-level layout gives the room a different arrangement from the standard studios, making it an option for students who want something more spacious and distinctive.
Several household costs are already covered by the weekly rent at Gateway Apartments Edinburgh.
Your rent includes:
Electricity
Gas
Heating
Water
High-speed Wi-Fi
Having these costs included means students don't need to set up separate utility payments after moving in. It also makes it easier to work out how much of the weekly budget remains for groceries, travel and other expenses.
Every room is fully furnished, so there is less to arrange before moving into the property.
The facilities at Gateway Apartments cover the parts of student life that tend to take up most of the week, from studying and laundry to exercise and time with friends.
Dedicated study rooms give residents somewhere to work outside their bedroom.
They can be useful for revision, coursework or simply getting through a piece of work when you want a change from your usual study setup.
Students have access to:
Cinema room
Lounge area
The lounge gives residents somewhere to sit and spend time with other students, while the cinema room offers another option for switching off after lectures or during the weekend.
An on-site fitness studio is available to residents.
Having exercise facilities within the building means students can fit a workout around lectures without having to make a separate journey to a gym.
Gateway Apartments includes several security features:
24-hour security
On-site security
CCTV
Secure door entry
These features provide additional support for residents throughout their stay.
On-site laundry facilities are available within the residence, so students can take care of regular washing without having to travel elsewhere.
The weekly rent covers:
Electricity
Gas
Heating
Water
High-speed Wi-Fi
This keeps the main household costs together with the accommodation payment rather than requiring separate arrangements for each utility.
Gateway Apartments Edinburgh is within reach of several universities and specialist institutions across the city. The distance varies considerably between campuses, so students should consider their specific teaching location when comparing the property with other accommodation options.

Gateway Apartments Edinburgh is a sensible option for students who want to stay within easy reach of central Edinburgh while having a choice between private and shared accommodation. The room selection covers several budgets, from the Premier 3 Bed at £235 per person per week to the Split Superior Studio with View at £335 per week.
The studio rooms give residents their own living space, including a private kitchen and bathroom. This setup suits students who prefer to keep their study, cooking and downtime within their own room.
The Premier Studio – Ground Floor and Classic Studio both start from £255 per week, while Superior Studio options are available for students looking for more space.
The Premier 2 Bed and Premier 3 Bed apartments offer a shared alternative to studio accommodation.
This arrangement can work well for students who enjoy having flatmates around and want to keep their weekly accommodation costs lower than some of the private studio options.
Electricity, gas, heating, water and Wi-Fi are included within the rent. Having these main household costs covered means students can plan their budgets without setting aside additional money for separate utility accounts.
This can be particularly useful during the first few months of university, when there are already plenty of other expenses to keep track of.
Dedicated study rooms give residents somewhere to work when they want a quieter setting away from their bedroom.
The property's location also puts students within reach of libraries such as the University of Edinburgh Main Library, Central Library Edinburgh and Leith Library.
Gateway Apartments has several facilities within the building, including a fitness studio, cinema room, lounge and laundry.
These can be useful when your schedule is busy and you don't want to make another trip across Edinburgh simply to exercise, wash clothes or take some time away from your coursework.
The property's position near Leith Walk gives students access to local buses and the tram network. Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station is also within reach for longer journeys.
That combination is useful for students who regularly travel between university, the city centre and other parts of Edinburgh.
Gateway Apartments Edinburgh gives students several ways to approach city-centre living. The choice of shared apartments and private studios means you can weigh up privacy, space and weekly rent according to your own priorities.
The practical side of living here is covered too, with electricity, gas, heating, water and Wi-Fi included in the rent. Study rooms, a fitness studio, cinema room, lounge and laundry facilities add useful options within the residence, while secure entry, CCTV and 24-hour security provide additional support.
Location is another major consideration. Students can reach Edinburgh's universities, libraries, shops, cafés and green spaces from the property, while nearby bus, tram and rail connections make longer journeys easier.
For students comparing gateway apartments Edinburgh with other accommodation in the city, the main factors to weigh up are the room type, weekly rent, university commute and facilities you are likely to use. I’ve had such a positive experience at Prestige Student Accommodation (Gateway). Shana has been absolutely wonderful. She is always so friendly, approachable, and helpful throughout my stay, which has made settling in so much easier. John was also really kind and supportive during my move from McDonald’s to Gateway, and I truly appreciated his assistance in making the transition smooth. Thank you both for creating such a welcoming environment!

It’s the sanctuary for the international student like me since late 2019. Situated in Leith walk, this private student apartment provides gym, common room and study area offering the gate to nearby restaurants and malls in Edinburgh. The bus stop to the old town or other areas are flexible. The staffs here are wonderful and there is a major improvement until nowadays. The rental rates climbed every year well it happens with all flats in Edinburgh. If you want to a tranquil and safe place for staying in Edinburgh, feel free to explore this option as well :)

This is the dorm I really wanted before I came. It has a nice environment and a nice apartment. 2 rooms in a flat unit perfect for friends who want to live together. There are also many facilities and activities in the apartment. On top of that, there are super cute cats!

The moment I stepped into my room I felt great! Going to study abroad is a big deal and especially during a global pandemic. Having such a nice studio with an amazing view made me feel good and home during the self-isolation. The location is perfect, not near the Uni but a perfect walking distance and beautiful too! David, Lindsay and Brian made me feel welcome and helped me with many queries. They came up with activities during these weird times where you can win some cool stuff! Unfortunately, the gym was not always open due to the restrictions. I think the price quality ratio is okay.

I absolutely love living here! The location is perfect—just a few minutes from the shopping center and Calton Hill, with lots of convenience stores around. Super safe and super handy. I'm in Block A and the view is amazing—you can actually see Calton Hill from the window! The staff are so nice (the receptionist is super friendly and lovely), and there are always fun events going on. I've joined the movie night and the welcome pizza party, which were great. At the start of the semester, we even got a welcome pack with snacks and tissues, and sometimes reception puts out free treats. Such a nice surprise! Facilities are spot on: common room, gym, cinema, laundry—everything you need. And the best part? There are two adorable cats in the building, which makes it feel even more like home. Honestly, this place is my warm little home in Edinburgh. Couldn't recommend it more!
