The Flats on High Apartments, tallahassee-fl

We've been there 7 yrs. now. The complex is clean, friendly feeling, and inviting. The staff at 385 Rent are fabulous. The owner of 385 Rent has many properties and responsibilities; However, when speaking to any resident is fully focused on what we may have to say. The owner is very hands-on and very present in the handling of The Flats, and all 385 Rent's properties. Its been a great experience for us living there. There is a feeling of community almost always. It is secured by owners insistence to have many cameras, very well lit parking areas and walkways all the way to your own door. Its extremely affordable with all amenities you can think of. We are quite a bit older than most residents, and we could live just about any place we chose. However, we have chosen to stay in our home at the Flats on High.

It's a terrible place to live in Tallahassee. When I moved in, the carpets were absolutely filthy, with food stuck to them and a weird smell. I ended up having to rent my own carpet cleaner to clean my carpet when I moved in, but I best believe they will charge you when you move out for carpet cleaning. (See below for the filthy water.) There was black mold in my apartment that was painted over, which explained why I felt sick for months (you can see the at-home petri dish I swiped the spot with). Management was not quick to fix the issue either; you can see in other reviews that they take their time with maintenance requests. Do yourself a favor, save yourself the headache, and DO NOT live here. It's really cheap rent, but it's not cheap enough to endure the experience. The rooms themselves are poorly designed; the only "windows" in the individual rooms are the French doors. They are extremely stuffy and dry (and you cannot open any windows in them), and the space in each room is poorly allocated. "The Flats" has changed names several times to avoid their reputation and even denies that some reviewers have lived there, saying they have "no record" of them. I changed my name to "Fake Name" to avoid false claims of having no record of me living there. Anyway, review the photos below and other reviews and decide if you want yourself or your child living in these conditions.

Most disgusting place I’ve ever lived. Property manager puts no money into the place. Terminated my lease early because it was making me sick due to roaches and black mold. The property manager then comes at me with a ledger charging me for damages and grime that was already preexisting. I wrote down the conditions of the apartment on move in explaining everything was old and dirty. The pictures below is the years worth of black MOLD. The property manager painted over the mold with white paint instead of cleaning it up. My unit is not the only one that had these issues, save yourself the time and money. This place does not care about you!

Unfortunately you get what you pay for at this place. Disappointed beyond words on move in day (because you could not tour before) as the “bedroom” with private entrance wreaked off cigarette smoke, “although it’s supposed to be non-smoking” and smelled soured. Emphasized on application——no cigarette smoking rooms due to severe allergies. An ozone machine was placed to try and eliminate the smell but it did not help so move in was Jan 3 classes started on the 9th and this left us searching for another rental as everything was completely full at the Flatts on High. There is no accountability as management advised they cannot enter any of the rooms for inspection. The 4x4 was completely a mess, you could not even get to the kitchen sink. Pictures were taken, no shower head, door handle duct taped, but, it was “move in ready and had been inspected”. Left three messages for the property manager to call with no call from him because he could care less. I would like to give a huge shout out to Audrey that worked there as she was as helpful as she could be and was allowed to be. She was very kind and considerate, passionate about her job, answered endless questions, and tried to come up with solutions for disappointed parents and the lack of care by “the manager”. I sure hope she gets paid well because she deserves the money not the place. She should be the property manager. Unfortunately please don’t waste your time or money here as you get what you pay for. We did receive a full refund thankfully and have found a wonderful place, with a wonderful property manager elsewhere.

Star Suites has been the best apartment complex that I have found in my four years in Tallahassee, everything gets fixed in a timely manner and they are always willing to listen to any concerns that you have. The previous complaints all seem to be from people who have issues with their roommates, but honestly that is going to happen in any situation where you are living with people who you do not know and is not the apartment complex's fault. The grounds are always super clean and I have never had an issue finding parking!
