109 Tower, miami-fl

I’ve been living at 109 Building for about a year now, and I’ll be staying here for my second year as well. Out of all the buildings I’ve lived in at FIU, this one is honestly the best when it comes to dorms. The building is a little older since it was one of the first ones built, but compared to the others, the price is much more affordable. I also have only good things when talking about maintenance and the front desk staff. Every time I had a problem or requested something, they always solved it. The maintenance team is especially very fast. Usually, if you submit a request during the day, they solve the issue the same day.

This is a jail,, my son got sick and therefore, the doctor recommended to keep him at home. We explained the situation to the administrator, we provided letters from the doctor explaining the situation. The 109 tower administration had refused to break the lease, although my son is not attending FIU anymore because of his condition

I have lived at 109 for the past year, and honestly, it has been one of the most stressful and tramtizing living experiences I've ever had. When I first moved in, they placed us with a married roommate whose husband was basically living in the apartment. We repeatedly expressed how uncomfortable we were being 3 young college girls with a married couple almost twice our age —not only because he was constantly there, but because of the way he spoke to us and the way he dressed around the apartment. Despite multiple complaints, the leasing office did nothing. Later, that same roommate began subleasing, and management allowed two random people to move into our room(its one person per bedroom) without any notice or communication it made me not stay at my aparment most night because of how gross and how they over took the space. It took my roommates and me at least 10 complaints each before the leasing office finally addressed the situation. The condition of the building is another major issue. Everywhere you go, it smells. The walls are scuffed up, damaged, and look like they haven't been painted in years. The common areas are dirty, there are cigarette butts in the pool, and pool chairs only half assembled. It feels like the property isn't being maintained. also to add my our washer a dryer was broken for about 2 months nd it took us making about 4 requst for them to fix it Another frustrating experience happened when I accidentally locked my keys in my room. None of my roommates were home, so I called the front desk and was told that someone would be right up to let me in. After waiting 30 minutes, I called again for an update, and they apologized and said someone would be there shortly. Another 40 minutes passed, and no one ever came. In the end, one of my roommates got home and had to let me in. Waiting over an hour without any assistance or communication was incredibly frustrating and showed a lack of follow-through. Another frustrating part was the billing. Communication about these fees was poor, and getting answers was difficult. At first, the lower rent seems like a great deal, but after all the extra charges, I ended up paying about the same as friends who lived in much nicer apartment buildings. The one and olny positive thing I can say is that the staff at the front desk has always been kind and respectful stunning and just overall the best. They seem to do the best they can with the resources they're given. Overall, I would not recommend living here. Between the poor management, lack of communication, cleanliness issues, and unexpected fees, it simply isn't worth the money. also it just smells so bad I understand that this may have just been my roommates' and my experience, but these aren't even all of the reasons that cane with this building and the nightmares it gave me, but it did give alot to look for when it comes to looking for another place to live. After talking with many other residents throughout the year, it seems that a lot of people in the building have had similar concerns. Of course, everyone's experience is different, but based on the conversations I've had, many residents shared the same frustrations.

We have been happy with our son living at 109 Tower the past 5 months. The apartment needed a good cleaning that took us two days to complete but as a parent of 5 children living in lots of different states, we were prepared for it because it’s simply the nature of apartment living. To expect a college student living on their own (especially boys) to leave an apartment immaculate just isn’t realistic. And nothing is ever cleaned to a mother’s standard anyway. It is a bit more dated than we thought it would be, but their safety measures for residents and convenient location within walking distance of campus outweigh cosmetics. The staff create fun activities to build community among the residents and my son has made great friends there!

Living at 109 Apartments as an international student has been a good experience. The location is very convenient near campus and stores, and the furnished setup made moving in easy. It can be a little noisy and pricey, but overall it’s comfortable and student-friendly.
