My experience at The Hangout has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I strongly urge anyone considering this place to look elsewhere. The most egregious issue was their handling of my Employment Authorization Document (EAD). This is an extremely important government document, and USPS marked it as delivered to the front office. However, I never received it. When I went to the office to ask for help, the staff and managers were completely uninterested. I was given the runaround with vague promises to "check again," but there was zero communication or sense of urgency. They seemed to have no regard for the serious consequences this delay caused me. To make matters worse, their lack of responsibility is clear in how they handle packages. I once found a pile of boxes sitting on the floor, not placed in the parcel lockers, just left out for anyone to take. It shows they have zero system in place to protect residents belongings. It also became clear that management views residents as walking wallets. They don't miss an opportunity to charge for anything they can. My friends were hit with an outrageous charge of over $700 for "cleaning" after they moved out. Thankfully, my lease has ended. I am relieved to be out, but I feel it is my duty to warn others: Do not live here! The management is unprofessional, the package security is non-existent, and they will try to steal your security deposit. Find a place that actually respects its tenants.

Took a tour of the Hangout and was very impressed with the floor plans I was shown. Leasing agent Cooper and the leasing manager Ms. Johnson were very helpful throughout the entire process. Nice property and a great staff. I would recommend staying here to anyone.

I do appreciate the leasing office contacting me the next day asking how my experience was, in which I informed them of the information below: The worst apartment tour guide experience I have ever had. When we walked into the apartment he instructed me to walk around by myself and if I had any questions to ask them; this is an issue because it wasn’t a self-guided tour. Upon returning back to the leasing office I asked about the gym and the pool, which he failed to show me. There is one pool located next to the leasing office and he said you can go out and look at it, not only was there a gate, but he once again wanted me to self-guide myself. As for the gym I asked about it and he said he was the only person manning the desk and I could go online and look at the pictures because they are accurate. The tour guide was inconsiderate, insensitive, and lacked basic and effective customer service. The apartment I saw looked nice minus the dirty foyer. Doesn’t look like a bad place to stay, especially if you’re a student at MSU, but the tour guide experience set a bad precedent.

This has been THE WORST experience!!!! This Apartment complex does NOT care about you. They will NOT show up to fix damages for WEEKS. We had a flea infestation from previous owners even though there is a pest and cleaning fee and they refused to send someone over for THREE WEEKS even though we repeatedly asked for help. I commented this under their instagram post OF TWO DOGS and they deleted it immediately. Multiple other residents have also moved into their apartments to find animal pee/feces or general mess/griminess left from previous owners as well. Also, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH PARKING SPACE FOR EVERYONE. They have sold spaces to other complexes in the area to the detriment of their own residents. People have to PAY to have a parking decal in the hangout WITHOUT a guarantee they will be able to even park there. On top of this the apartment has changed the parking rules multiple times without clear communication leading to MANY residents getting towed. The people in charge have been repeatedly hard to work with and even wouldn’t send over the right lease after being repeatedly asked and then said they couldn’t do anything about it when it costed more money. We have also been threatened with a $120 fine for HAVING SHOES ON THE BALCONY. THIS APARTMENT ONLY WANTS MONEY THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. YOU WILL HAVE THE WORST TIME HERE. If I could give the hangout negative stars I would.

I recently moved my son into The Hangout and it was hands down the worst move-in experience I’ve ever had. His apartment was absolutely disgusting—trash all over the floor, sticky counters, and filth in the bathroom—and despite repeated calls to management, no cleaning was ever scheduled. We ended up spending our first weekend scrubbing the place ourselves just to make it livable. To make matters worse, parking passes were never handed out at move-in. Students were told to pick them up later, but by that time dozens of cars had already been towed—each costing over $300 in fees. There was zero communication or apology from the office, and every voicemail and email went unanswered. The on-site staff and regional office have shown complete disregard for residents’ time, money, and well-being. If you value basic cleanliness, clear communication, and fair treatment, look elsewhere. I cannot recommend The Hangout for anyone seeking a smooth, respectful leasing experience.
