The Grand At Starkville, starkville-ms

If you enjoy possibly being charged at the end of your lease for damage that existed before your move-in, this may be the place for you. In my experience, the property had numerous maintenance issues that were present when I moved in, including poorly patched walls with mismatched paint, damage to the front door and frame, and other cosmetic defects that I documented with photos. The amenities were also disappointing, including a waterless pool, broken gym equipment, poorly maintained sidewalks, and grass that was rarely cut. Communication with the front office was equally frustrating, as callbacks after leaving voicemails were inconsistent or never came at all. I strongly recommend taking detailed move-in photos of everything so you have documentation of your unit's condition. Overall, this was one of the most frustrating renting experiences I've had. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this property to thoroughly inspect their unit, photograph every existing defect before moving in, keep copies of all maintenance requests and communications, and think twice before signing a lease.

If I could give zero stars I would. Picture this… you’re a college student that goes to visit their friend for a Saturday night movie night. When you go to leave, your trucks (yes plural) are missing. Apex towing has a contract to ride thru and tow vehicles without a parking decal. There are no signs that say which areas are for guest and which are for residents. The vehicles were parked in a parking space in front of the office where there are no signs to indicate parking in such spots would result in towing ($300 per vehicle) but rather state future resident parking . I drove from Pascagoula MS (4 hours) to pay to get their vehicles back on Sunday. I went into the office and asked the desk worker to speak to a manager and explained the situation. She called Ricki Outlaw but Ricki refused to speak to me or help me on Sunday bc it’s not his/her day to work. Instead said I could send an email. No offer to help me or offer a solution. Beware if you visit The Grand. Ricki Outlaw can’t be bothered on off days and they don’t have signs warning of fees you could incur for parking in unmarked “illegal” parking spots.

The Grand in Starkville does a poor job of maintaining all the amenities especially since they are paid for. The water bill comes out at the most inconvenient times and late fees are always add even though residents are not at fault for missed or late payments.

Extremely Disappointing Experience. I was charged for something that staff failed to properly inspect. When I spoke with the leasing manager and requested a copy of the inspection report for my unit, she was unable to provide any documentation, yet the charge remains on my account. I also reached out to the property manager by email and have not received any response.When I first moved in, I went an entire month without hot water. In addition, the property grounds were often littered with trash and dog waste. After that initial issue, I chose to renew my lease in hopes things would improve — unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. Management is extremely difficult to reach and unresponsive to resident concerns. The only positive aspect has been the maintenance team this year, as they have been fairly prompt with service requests.

The amenities are great, BUT the grounds leave a lot to be desired. The overgrown weeds, lack of grass, and horrible landscaping make the complex look like it's not maintained.
