I’ve been living at The SLO Student Living for almost two years now, and it’s honestly been the best place I’ve lived by far. The location is a huge plus—it’s close enough to Cal Poly without feeling overwhelming, and still very convenient to downtown. The staff are genuinely super nice and always supportive. Anytime I’ve had a question or needed help, the office has been welcoming and willing to assist. Maintenance has also been great—issues are fixed quickly as long as they’re made aware of them, which makes a big difference in day-to-day living. While there isn’t a full kitchen, that wasn’t a big adjustment for me. I lived in the Cal Poly dorms before and had to share a microwave with a lot of people, so this felt manageable. Keeping my unit clean was easy, and the Wi-Fi has been reliable throughout my time here, which is a must as a student. Parking is another huge plus and something that really sets this place apart. Overall, this is an affordable option for student housing in SLO, and I think many of the negative reviews come down to expectations. This is a great place for people who are comfortable with independent living. I did end up cleaning the Sierra Madre common space multiple times when it got messy, but that was more related to shared living habits than management. For the price, location, supportive staff, quick maintenance, and parking, I’ve had a very positive experience and would definitely recommend The SLO Student Living to other students.

DO NOT RENT- BIOHAZARD - I ENDED UP IN THE ER !!!! After 2 months of living there I was in the Emergency Room for mold exposure barely able to breathe, covered in rashes and extremely ill. I was put on cancer meds (prednisone) to get my upper airway to work. When I went into the buildings office and told them the building was moldy they didn’t even deny it they said “oh you shouldn’t have been able to find that”. I nearly suffocated and now they are just ghosting me and not terminating my lease even though I physically can not live there.

I would put zero stars but it was not possible. Terrible management unwilling to ask your questions and help you. Maintenance takes couple months to come and change your tv when it don’t work and everything takes weeks to do. The apartments were in bad shape prior to our stay but regardless they charged us a fee after we moved out anyway cause apparently it was necessary. They were redecorating the gym for about 4 months and when they opened it again they left it without weights so it was practically useless anyway. Overall terrible experience just because it was cheaper than anything else in SLO definitely would NOT recommend!!!!!! Thank you

This student apartment is okay for what they rent out. If you need something maintenance they usually get to it between 1-3 days so that's pretty great. However some things that could be done to make this place livable: • turning the counter-space into a proper kitchenette like they advertise - especially since there are no wall outlets to have a kitchen • allow people to get their own wifi in each apartment, you cannot do your schoolwork even if you wanted to • make the 5/6bed bathroom into two separate bathrooms - literally can just add a wall to divide the bathrooms • major cleaning and repairs on the outside buildings to make it look clean and nice to live in • assigned parking spaces for all residents • repairs on the complex road (HUGE pothole next to the mailboxes) • have a 24 hour mail room • have a better laundry mat - those washer and dryers will breakdown every week and you have to wait a month for it to get repaired Anyone who says it’s not so bad you should just walk around and give yourself a tour, and ask if it’s worth living here to anyone who doesn’t work in the office. They’ll tell you no.

The pictures speak for themselves. I stayed here 2023-24 and had a massive number of issues with the slo. We personally tested what we believed to be black mold in our rooms, and it came back positive. Also, my car was towed from the parking lot for no reason. I had to walk across town and pay a $425 fee to the towing company. When I contacted the leasing office to try to get them to reimburse it, they said there was nothing they could do. I had to threaten multiple times with legal action before they reimbursed me the entire amount. The buildings are outdated and not up to living standard. No kitchen, and they don’t allow any sort of hot plate, toaster oven, or air fryer. Don’t sign a lease here just because it’s the cheapest place in town. Pay a little bit more to ensure you aren’t grossly mistreated.
