If you're considering living here, please read this first. I lived here for a full lease term and I would not recommend it to anyone. PARKING: There isn't any. IT IS A NIGHTMARE - You cannot have anyone to visit because there is nowhere to park. Let me repeat - nobody can visit you, becasue there is nowhere to park, if they want to park, its far away and a hassle. Guest parking is shared with the trolley station, so spots are filled by 5pm or earlier. Management will tell you street parking is available — but cars parked on the street get BROKEN INTO regularly. Ironically, I've even been warned by homeless individuals in the area not to park there. On top of that, towing companies patrol the property constantly. Park for five minutes to run inside and there's a good chance you're towed. Fees run $400+. It happened to me twice. SAFETY & SECURITY: The security staff are very friendly, but the building is not managed in a way that lets them do their job. Non-residents get in with little to no verification. There have been massive unauthorized pool parties — 200+ people — with fights breaking out. Homeless individuals camp around the perimeter and regularly get inside the building, where I've seen open hard drug use, people sleeping on the trolley stairs, blasting music, screaming, and blocking pathways. An MTS officer told me Grantville is one of their top problem areas. Police presence is a weekly if not daily occurrence — I've seen 10-12 squad cars respond at once. During my time here, I'm aware of at least two DEATHS on property, including a shooting and a drowning in the jacuzzi. MAINTENANCE & LIVABILITY: The fire alarm went off 7-8 times during my lease, usually early morning. The ice from my unit leaves white residue flakes in my water — I dont drink it unfiltered. The water filters at the gym stayed red (needing replacement) for months. The elevator breaks often, the jacuzzi has been broken repeatedly and the water foams when it works, the pool is dirty, study room doors break, and the hallways constantly reek of weed. Other residents drop their trash on the floor in the trash room - instead of down the chute. The parking garage gates constantly break; this is a liability for your car. Outside reeks of urine. The front office staff are nice but ultimately unhelpful — I don't blame them, this is a management problem from the top down. If you value your car, your sleep, and your safety, look elsewhere.

Zhi was extremely helpful and kind when she answered my phone call regarding some questions. She took the time to explain everything clearly, was patient throughout the conversation, and made the whole experience very positive. I really appreciated her friendly attitude and willingness to help.

This is my second year living at this place. I lived in the 2B2B floor plan, and the price dropped significantly compared to last year. Although it is not in a safe neighborhood as many other posts had mentioned about the homeless people around the area, the apartment does hire a strong group of security which makes the place safe inside. Another benefit living here is the amentities, the pool and the gym are really nice. I would say parking is probably the hardest thing here. I need to save street parking for my girlfriend everytime she comes over.

Had a great experience reaching out to Union Grantville. Paulina was super responsive and easy to talk to, and she made the whole process feel a lot less overwhelming. You can tell she really cares about helping people and making sure they feel confident moving forward. Overall, a really smooth and positive interaction. Definitely recommend connecting with her if you’re looking into the property.

Where do I start!? The Union Grantville staff has been nothing but supportive and helpful since day 1! I moved in last summer and over time, the staff has become my second family here in San Diego! From Ashleigh, Akiko, Gavin and Joanna at the front desk, to Lisa and Kate in their respected offices and of course..who can forget about Justin! Everyone has been friendly, helpful and full of cheer. They have made my experience here at Grantville worth while. Thanks everyone!
