In my personal opinion, The Flats has some serious drawbacks that outweigh the positives. The location is convenient, the units look presentable, and the lobby is attractive—but beyond that, my experience raises concerns. I was told that my son and his friends were verbally threatened in a hallway by another resident, with a firearm mentioned (though not displayed). Whether isolated or not, this was alarming and made us question the level of security on the property. There also seems to be a frequent smell of marijuana in the hallways. After reading other reviews, it appears these concerns have been raised before. From conversations with residents, it does not seem like management is proactively monitoring common areas or consistently enforcing community rules. If smoking is not permitted, management should spend time walking the halls and addressing it directly. Other issues, while less serious, add to the frustration—maintenance requests were slow or ignored, and the parking lot is very small with no clear loading or unloading area for students. I understand the property may now be owned by Jackson Dearborn Partners LLC out of Chicago, and I hope improvements are made. As it stands, based on our experience, I would not recommend this property.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. Young America made this place the Wild West and I have had nothing but troubles since moving in. We didn’t have internet for 3 months, random charges added every month, and zero communication from Young America. I was never given a key to my door, and when I went to the office to get it, it wasn’t even the right one. We experienced a shooting in our building and Young America said absolutely nothing about it, and the maintenance workers found it humorous. If I am paying almost $900 a month I would much rather have an apartment I feel safe in. $45 dollars a month for parking might be the scummiest charge for a parking lot not even attached to our building. Never again will I rent from Young America.

This place doesn’t get enough hate—and it gets a ton. It’s practically money laundering. They don’t care if you just had an electrical fire, if your heat turned off in the dead of winter, if your faucet is covered in mold, if your water won’t turn on, they don’t care! They won’t be there. Ever. The best you’re gonna get is a 2 week wait time and a request to call their support line, which is of course not anyone about of the actual Flats management team or YA, but overseas employees who know nothing about the unit and were contracted to repeat the same thing over and over. They have incredibly inconvenient incidents that happen at any given time, multiple times during the year (i.e elevator not working for weeks at a time, support not being available, the office where we receive our mail being out of service for days, the trash chute being unavailable), in which they slap a sign in the elevator for and we’re just supposed to be okay with it after shelling out $1000 every month. The cherry on top is that you will hear a pin drop outside your 5th floor window and constant noise on your floor. Just steer clear of this place or realize why you should’ve.

This place used to be pretty decent, but then young America took over. i’ve had five separate packages be stolen from here even though I was advertised it would be a mail room every person I talk to has had something stolen. Cost $100 to unclog your toilet even if it’s not your fault cost $100 to be locked out of your room and the doors are faulty. Sometimes they’ll randomly lock. The maintenance guys are pretty nice, but if you have something going on in your apartment, they won’t tell you unless you’re the one who reported to have fun with something Being broken. If you’re looking for a place to live, avoid young America at all cost. If you really need something from them, make sure you go to the higher-ups and Don’t trust some random person’s word. They do have some very nice people working for them, but that doesn’t save their business practices. Also be ready to get important messages sent at the last minute and maybe less than five hours Before it happens. very last minute information about touring when I was very sick luckily they did make sure that no one came when I was violently ill, but I still feel like it would’ve been important to inform people, especially people who go home on the weekend much earlier.

Whatever you do, do not move here do not move to any young American property. They are an evil monopoly that do not care. They will legitimately ruin your College experience. If you find out a building, you’ve renting has been bought by the break the lease. This company is making me consider leaving the school because Just how miserable experience they’re making me have. Please, if you take one thing away from this, do not come to a young American building Do not come here they do not respect If you have a disability, they will not respect you. Please, please please please please stop giving these people money.
