Silver Star Housing, los-angeles-ca

My roommates and I chose Silver Star since we were not from the area and wanted furnished housing, and this was the best rate we found in the apartment areas by UCLA. We've had a very pleasant experience with Silver Star - they are extremely responsive to residents when it comes to maintenance issues (which we've barely had) or general questions. The furniture that comes with the apartment is high quality and aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, the apartment complex has amenities such as a pool and barbeque which are well-maintained and fun to use. The move in process was very smooth and they even provided things such as bedding, hangers, and cleaning supplies. Overall we've had a great experience here!

Living at Silver Star Housing has been a great experience! Management responds very quickly to any issues and is friendly. It’s nice to have a pool on hot days. Our apartment is fully furnished with a good theme in between furniture which saved us money and was less stressful at the beginning of the year. Highly recommend choosing Silver Star!

We've loved living here! All of the building managers are extremely nice and have helped us with everything. Any minor issue we have had has been resolved within the same day. The facilities are excellent, including a great pool area and close proximity to campus. Would highly recommend for undergrads!

Agency to avoid No proper move-in inspection was carried out. Our security deposit was not refunded because the agency replaced the photos we took upon arrival with photos from a different apartment and charged us unjustified painting fees. At move-out, we returned the keys few minutes later than the agreed time and $250 was deducted from our deposit for this. The apartment was poorly maintained and badly insulated. There was no heating in the bedrooms, with temperatures dropping to 15°C in winter. The apartment was inadequately furnished (one small table and two chairs for three people), the rent was excessively high (the unit was listed far above regulated pricing), and the windows were completely damaged. Additional cleaning fees were charged at move-out despite the apartment being cleaned thoroughly, cleaner than when we arrived. The agency never answered phone calls. On one occasion, they made us drive over an hour to retrieve a mailbox key because they were unable to provide it themselves. Many international students share the same negative experience with this agency.

I chose the June-to-June lease with the discount and sublet for the summer, which was super easy to arrange. It turned out to be a great deal, and I really felt I got excellent value for what I paid. It was a smart and cost-effective way to get the apartment I wanted at a lower price.
