Please note: this is ONLY about the application/front end experience. I have no idea what maintenance was like. This is getting 2 stars instead of 1 because Dane the realtor was amazing, and has nothing to do with him. Leasing does not clarify anything. My boyfriend and I wanted to apply for a unit that has been on the market for well over 3 months. I have a government job and income, my boyfriend works for a family llc. I called leasing to explain and that should have been the key to see how difficult they would be. I was told I couldn’t discuss anything on the phone with them. I had clarifications about the application and my situation. After on the phone I was told that it wasn’t combined income (this is the only unit where they don’t consider combined income of applicants), I was met with an email that encouraged us both to still apply. I have IN WRITING where they said that the owner would be spoken to if something could be done for our situation since we loved the unit. After collecting $130 in fees, and giving us a mass amount of runaround for both our applications like asking for more paystubs, communicating saying “they’ll review it!”, the leasing agency lied and said they called my boyfriend’s family to explain the denial, that he didn’t have income, and that in state co-signers need to make 5x the income. Not once anywhere is the 5x the rent in income in writing for co-signers. At that rate, who is renting an apartment if they need to make $200k? For a unit with no in unit laundry? So they held us to a standard they “claimed” was in writing, but went back on their in writing communication they would speak to the owner about our application. I understand qualifications. Don’t entertain people then just to make $130. I’ve never felt like my time was wasted before in a renters market until now. Sad to see that you can pick and choose what you’re held to in writing, especially when you have people with great recommendations and government jobs and co-signers, you can’t make it work or speak with the owner as you requested. The unit will continue to sit vacant.

What ever you are seeking from them you need to be prepared to be disappointed. I made contact with this company 3 months prior to moving in and payed application fee only be told 1 months before moving in that they are no longer managing the apartment I want to rent. If you really want to waste your money you should try to grab a 50 dollar bill and change them in to quarter and throw them water instead, cause at least you get fun by doing so.

Melody has been very very helpful in our dealings with each other. She remained patient while I had many questions and concerns. Even though I had alot of questions about apartments and scheduling, she is the best ive experienced in a long time. I got confused and she calmly helped me figure out what I wasn't understanding. She has great customer service skills in her job working with all types of people. She responded quickly with details I needed fast and professionally. The pressure I put on her to provide me with answers went extremely well. She handled it professionally with concern for me. I wish other could have the patience and professionalism as Melody. Thank you so much Melody.

RENTERS BEWARE of these thieves, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! CA Law states: "Within 21 days after move-out, the landlord must send the tenant an itemized statement explaining in detail any deductions from the security deposit (unless they total less than $125), and return the rest of the deposit. o If the landlord did the repairs, the statement must show the work done, the time spent, and the hourly rate. o If someone else did the work, the landlord must provide a copy of the bill for the work. o If the work cannot be finished in 21 days, the statement must give a good faith cost estimate. The landlord must then provide the final statement and return the remaining deposit within 14 days of finishing the work"... they illegally withheld an extra amount of my security deposit for a total of 220 even after I reached out to them for the itemized reciept they didn't send a single thing and I have not heard from them since. We left the unit looking just as clean if not cleaner than when we moved in BTW! Beware of the landlord Stacy (327 N Ynez Ave unit) as well, who hired this property management company as she just brushes off any concerns & tells you to "reach out to scott properties" but once you do nothing comes of it. Also, as soon as we moved out they relisted the unit cheaper than what they were charging us rent when we were tenants. Disgusting greed and unprofessionalism.

I know people move everyday and I am blessed to have housing. I had to be the one to move out after my almost 8 year relationship. Scott Properties appeared to be very communicative when responding to all of the apts that I wanted to view. They seemed like a good company and I really liked their slogan "trust, integrity, and ethics". Sadly, these 3 tenants have been lacking ever since I moved in. Repairs of the tub and patchwork in the bathroom were supposed to be completed before I moved in. The lease reports that when you move out, you must pay to have the apartment professionally cleaned. General cleaning was done, but the kitchen and bathroom cabinets were replete with dirt, grime, and hair. All of the blinds were filthy and so were the ceiling fans, light fixtures and thermostat. I was not able to use my bathroom for 3 days and was never given an answer about getting my rent prorated. I asked if that money could be used toward getting my apartment cleaned to make things easier and no one was ever sent to clean my apartment. The worst part is that the carport ceiling fell on my car causing almost 7k in damage and the building supervisor has not reached back as to what the plan is to get me my money back. I reached out several times and asked if I can just get reimbursed for the body work (I already paid 3,800 for that) but just get a rental credit for the remaining work on the car which is to fix the windshield. I also asked about mediation because my lease states that I have to try to go through mediation. But due to lack of response, I now have the right to go through small claims court and waste even more money on filing and having someone serve the paperwork. Sadly there are no "trust, integrity, and ethics with Scott Properties and I cannot wait until my lease is up because it does not feel right to be pushed around and disrespected like this. Total lack of integrity. I am so disappointed.
