I’ve lived here for 5 years and they refused to cut me a break on anything when moving out. They charge you hundreds in cleaning fees when you move out even if the unit is SPOTLESS. They will charge you large fees whenever possible. Truly a greedy place. The pool is also lame, it’s like 4 feet deep at the deepest, and always freezing, and closed for 9 months of the year. The units have already beat up furniture when you move in, but you better believe they’ll charge you for it if you didn’t document it when you moved in. Find a local landlord! This corporation is NOT your friend.

I signed my lease back in March and got a call at the end of July telling me they put me in the wrong room, after I had an email confirming my room number and roommates. They said they had no more rooms for the price I had originally signed my lease for, unless they could separate all of our roommates. I then had to pay extra to have the roommates I was originally assigned, just because an error was made in management. This was especially frustrating because management would not accept responsibility for this mistake.

While this place offers the convenience of a personal bath and comfortable living experience, just like many other reviewers have said, you will most likely have issues when moving out. My apartment and bedroom were never deep-cleaned by Alight before I moved in because there were other occupants living there beforehand. However, I was still charged outrageous fees for cleaning and damages when I moved out. I disputed this, but they told me that unless a specific occupant admits responsibility for a particular damage or cleaning cost, all three residents will be charged equally. I honestly don’t know how to feel about paying $291.68 for cleaning and damages—especially when $171.68 of that was just for cleaning the common area. Need I add that another occupant and I thoroughly deep-cleaned the common area ourselves before we moved out. So no matter how much you clean, you will still be charged! Perhaps it could have been worse than what I received if we didn’t clean. Tips based on my experience: Avoid moving into any apartment that has occupants living in, because they likely will not deep clean the common areas before you move in. Take pictures of everything from as many angles as possible (my mistake was not doing this) and file complaints immediately if needed. Keep all of this documented as evidence for move-out disputes. I also think an in-person dispute is far better than email communication. It took forever for them to reply to my emails, and I couldn’t send additional pictorial evidence that way. I was already too frustrated to go back and forth via email.

Trash is a constant and reoccurring issue - I was told to keep my trash at home or add to the pile. -Alight will not take responsibility for litter in the neighboring park. - Alight is not taking proactive steps to clean the environment, As Trash remains scattered across the lot, and into water ways, despite’s the issue “resolved” - There was an expectation that I would take time away from my job and to do alights job. Attached is a direct quote from management. “I must express my disappointment that I did not see your assistance in the trash clean-up while others did step up to help. If the situation was indeed a significant concern for you, I would have expected your participation in resolving it.”

I will start with the good before addressing the bad since there is much less positive to report. First, having a personal bathroom along with in-unit washer and dryer is very convenient and a nice amenity. Unfortunately, that is where the good ends. My move-in date was August 18th, but I was told I would still have to pay for the full month of August because each apartment would be professionally deep cleaned before being move-in ready. This would be understandable if it had actually happened. Two days before move-in, I received an email stating that our apartment was partially occupied and would not be deep cleaned. When I moved in, the apartment was absolutely filthy. I didn’t even want to bring my food or personal belongings into the apartment due to the conditions (see photos). So I paid the extra money for August rent for nothing. The next issue is the move-out process. As I previously described, the apartment was in terrible condition at move-in, and at move-out, they tried to charge me for everything they could: blinds that were broken at move-in, holes in the wall present at move-in, etc. I filled out a move-in survery/review detailing this but nothing was ever done. I also spent 3+ hours deep cleaning my bathroom and bedroom before move-out, only to be charged a cleaning fee. It wouldn't have mattered if I had hired a professional cleaning company—they would have charged me anyway. If you are moving out of this place, do not bother cleaning because no matter how good of a job you do, you will be charged anyway, so save your time. I am currently in the middle of an argument disputing damages present at move-in which I am currently being charged for despite having timestamp photos of the damages. The trash situation is completely out of control. The trash compactor maybe worked for a third of the year, and the rest of the time they used waste bins which were almost constantly overflowing, especially at move-in and move-out. You would think they would have learned by now that these dates produce higher volumes of trash, but apparently not; wherever they can cut corners, I guess. On top of that, expecting tenants to help with the trash clean-up is insane; that is not the tenants' job whatsoever and is 100% the facility's responsibility. The package system is a huge pain. I received multiple packages where I was never notified by the front desk. Every time I approached the front desk, they would check the computer and tell me they didn’t have it. I would then go down a rabbit hole, calling shipping companies trying to figure out where my package was, only to find out it was delivered. It would have taken two seconds to walk over and check, but instead, they would just tell me they didn’t have it. I would not recommend living here unless it’s your last option. Try absolutely anywhere else.
