I initially submitted a one star review, with no text explanation, to this platform. The reason for this review was due to the sole fact that I found Vicki Benson to be rude, and unhelpful. As a first semester freshman at Truman, I had to unexpectedly transfer colleges after already signing a lease for the following year. I communicated to Vicki that I needed help; as a freshman who did not live in the area, having to transfer unexpectedly for personal reasons, I needed help finding a person to sub-lease to. (Mind you, throughout this, I was fully aware of the fact that it was my responsibility to follow through with the lease because I signed it. I never blamed Benson Properties for this, and never faulted them for not releasing me from the lease that I signed.) I never once complained. I simply needed some assistance from my landlord. To that, I received absolutely no help. Up to today, I have been paying monthly rent for the property I signed the lease for. (Again, with no complaints.) I then received a text, asking if I was okay with a rent increase for the following year, and if I planned to stay; even though I had already communicated with Vicki that I had no plans to renew my lease the previous day. Therefore, the reason I submitted the initial review was due to all of this combined. Less then TWELVE hours after posting the review, I received a rude, unprofessional, and honestly outrageous text message from Vicki. After my explanation, she followed with yet another hurtful and unprofessional message. I believe she has absolutely no right to speak to any of her tenants in this way. I was initially going to delete my review. But after this conversation with Vicki, I was proved correct my my original assumption of her character. Vicki Benson used her authority as a landlord to talk down on a young tenant, as demonstrated in the text messages attached below. For that reason, I do not recommend leasing through Benson Properties. I will address one final time, I am completely aware of my legal obligations to pay the rent, and find my own sub-leaser after I signed the lease. However, I feel that since Benson Properties serves almost EXCLUSIVELY Truman State students, Vicki should harbor more patience, kindness, and respect for her tenants. After the conversation I had with her, it is clear that she has none.

I had a wonderful experience renting from them as a college student. They were quick to respond to any maintenance concerns, and gave thorough directions for when the seasons changed to ensure their tenants were comfortable . They were fast to respond to any questions I had as a first-time renter. I really appreciated that they would do property checks over college breaks if a tenant was gone for a long period of time. I would rent from them again if I was staying in the area!

I have had an outstanding experience with this company! As a first-time renter who didn’t have much of a clue with how to go about renting, Vicki Benson Properties made my experience easy and highly enjoyable! Everyone I spoke with was beyond wonderful, and with their help I found an apartment that is so much better than I expected! I would definitely recommend this company to any renter, first time or not!

I had a really great experience while renting from Vicki Benson Properties! Megan was always quick to respond to any issues I had during my time renting which I really appreciated. The property was well kept and the apartment was very clean upon my move-in day. Highly recommend renting through them, especially if you are a college student in town! They are affordable and really care about their tenants.

This was the first time I ever needed to rent. They were great at communicating and responsive to calls/emails. Unfortunately had to break a lease last minute but recommend them if needing housing in the area.
