Capri at Isla Vista Apartments, isla-vista-cal

My son has lived here for 3 years now. There was a slow to respond manager but now there's another lady who is really responsive. It was a nice quiet experience for him, he had good roommates, the property is kept well, he liked the maintenance person. All in all, easy place to live and get to school and town quickly. The buildings are older but kept up nicely. The building looks nice on the exterior too, I would not be embarrassed to say he lived there. Parking prices are pretty standard, rent amount is about what any other property is so close to town and UCSB. Overall excellent experience. Would stay another year but he's graduating.

Move in was super quick and easy! Brett was super responsive with helping me get my keys. When I moved in, I noticed my table was crooked and window screen had fallen out, and the maintenance staff fixed it immediately. Only complaint is the oven doesn’t have temperature marks on it, which makes it a little hard for cooking, but overall not a big deal. Place is very new and modern. Entrance hallway bigger than I thought. And i LOVE the dishwasher.

im reviewing because management said residents get a gift card if they review, which is honestly kind of crazy. i don't know if ill still get it because it's not a 5 star review. just wanted to share my thoughts though. the apartment units are pretty clean and updated. new appliances and everything is painted with the landlord's special. the bathroom window is inconveniently placed at chest height right where the shower is and collects a bunch of nasty stuff. fortunately, unlike other apartments in IV, there aren't mold or pest infestations, except for the bathroom window situation. there is a lack of hidden storage id say. i think you're expected to get your own storage/furniture. instead of a closet next to the bathroom, there's an extra sink and vanity. the management changed mid year from this guy named brett, who honestly seemed a power tripper trying to take advantage of students who are desperate to find housing. the new management, jenn, is pretty chill, no problems with them. i pay about 1700 to have a "private slider" which really is what should be the living room blocked off with glass panels. gives me enough privacy, but not sound proof at all since they aren't real walls. because they converted the living room to make another "bedroom", there is not much of a living room/ dining room except for a couch, coffee table and dining table so it's not the best place to invite more than a couple friends. i realize it's normal for property owners to convert their living spaces into an extra room to make more money. its so expensive which i understand because you're paying to be close to campus and it's gated. some of the time, the gate was broken and just open at night for about a week. not to mention you have to pay for the laundry machines, but the machines are so small and cost so much, you might as well walk down the street to the laundromat. also i live with my cat, which is probably every landlord's nightmare, but they made it a huge problem because before i ever signed the lease, they told me they'd be able to accommodate my cat, then right before moving in, they tried to tell me they never said that and i couldn't bring him, then after i had to show them the emails they tried to enact a lot of living conditions after the lease had already been signed (which im pretty sure you can't make residents do things not mentioned in the lease). safe to say, they're strongly anti-pet, and add to existing landlord stereotypes. the only thing i cannot complain about is the maintenance team, which is really just one guy, william. he is very responsive to maintenance requests and super nice. you will always see him working on the property. it was nice living here for a year, but i'm not returning because there is just not enough storage, the experiences i've had with management were subpar, amenities were mediocre, and it's impossible to host a party here.

DURING MOVE IN PERIOD LEAVING A 5 STAR REVIEW ENTERS YOU INTO A RAFFLE. THATS WHERE MOST 5 STARS COME FROM. Their washer/dryer machines will siphon money from your account, the machines frequently don't work, parking is cramped, and I have a heating element underneath the floor of my room which makes my room hot and stuffy despite running 2-3 fans 24/7. For 1700$ a month I was expecting better but its not the worst place. It is quiet but you can definitely find better housing for cheaper. Management was VERY pushy during signing.

management is nice but this place is so overpriced for what it is. the slider room has no privacy as it’s not sound proof and you can see light through it. the vibes of the apartment are grey with hospital lighting. (when you move in, leaving a 5 star review enters u into a raffle…)
