University owned apartments cost less overall; it's great for that and you have optional rules backed by the university. As someone who has lived with random dudes, it's nice not being forced to live in their mess. From my experience living in random private apartments, ppl's (adult) children are really messy!!! If you've had negative experience(s) living w/ more than 1 other person, it may have been due to lack of accountability. The low price of the doubles makes accountability easy, if it's not you then it has to certainly be the other person lol. You get the most sq ft for what you pay for: full kitchen + dining table, living room, bedroom, walk-in closet, double sink room, and a tiny toilet + shower. Laundry/dryer facility is fairly inexpensive (compared to private business) and gets the job done. The university apart complexes tend to be student ID card access during the night. The apartments have heaters but sometimes they will burn a lot of dust that can set off the alarm in the apartment above you lol. Bike racks are on the interior of the complex but can still get stolen (more of a IV/UCSB problem), but probably less likely here? The kitchens have the hot wire stoves, I suggest getting quality pots with thick bases to more evenly disperse the heat (and save your pot/pan). I'm glad I invested in good cookware. The apartment has limited hot water in the tanks, plan your hot water use around others in the facility. My apartments have always been on the east side, so the temperature was usually cool. The upstairs apartments can sometimes get a little warm during the hot months. Aside from outdated EVERYTHING, my apartments there have worked and I was happy to call them home. The bus stop closest towards school is 1 building over. The closest bus stop going away from the school is across the street adjacent to the crosswalk. Getting groceries from Albertson's, Costco, or Target is 1 bus away (learn the bus routes). It's a great location but if you have morning classes, I highly suggest having a bike or taking the bus MUCH earlier than needed. The bus has to pass by the Mountain range apartments and the freshman twin tower area, the busses get PACKED by the time it reaches Westwind Location (meaning the bus never picks anyone up) in the normal morning hours.

Obviously quality of life will depend on your roommates. I had good roommates who kept our apartment clean and it was overall enjoyable. Not the nicest apartments but having the university as your landlord is great. Sadly since Cox wifi is the only wifi offered due to weird leasing agreements that the university has with the actual landlord, the internet is pretty slow. The water also is turned off randomly to do repairs and their is kind of a shabby feeling to the place.

They keep the grounds very clean the pool, clean the parking lot clean and the manager is very nice. It is quiet and managed very well.

Charged high amount of cleaning fee from the deposit, avoid at all cost. Also respond to inquiries suuuper slowly. Mediocre facilities but expensive rents.

Avoid at all cost. Outdated and neglected rooms; objectively the worst university apartments here. WIFI is unreliable (at best).
