Union at Dearborn, dearborn-mi

This is probably the worst possible choice of living accommodations for students. The unit I was initially moved into was tiny, the couch/chair was filthy, the walls were paper-thin, and my roommates were terrible. I filed a complaint about it, and the most I was offered was a unit change. The staff didn't seem to give a damn about the no pets policy, as when I brought up the fact that my first roommates were bringing dogs into the unit, they brushed me off. The 10 pm to 8 am "quiet time" is rarely enforced, as evidenced by my past roommates hosting parties in our unit at all hours of the night. Seeing that my first unit was having a detrimental effect on my studies, I took the next unit without a care for the fact that the staff hadn't been able to properly clean its entirety. Of course, the place was in about the same condition as my first was. The couch/chair was greasy, I could hear my roommate snore through the walls, and the kitchen and floor of the entire unit were a mess. Of course, to add layers to the problem, the Heating and AC unit for the main room lacks a control panel, so it was never on during the September heat, and it lacked heat for the frigid winter we're currently having. Added bonus is that our kitchen also loves to leak water out of the handle. The quality of my room has declined since the first. My room air cooling has stopped, and of course, my window doesn't open, the bathroom vent was caked in lent dust, and I have been privileged to receive upstairs neighbors who love to run around, jumping, dancing, and blare music from time to time. This situation is only made worse by the fact that the dryers and washers on this floor charges 3.80$ a cycle and then don't dry my clothes properly. On top of that, half of their machine are plagued with an error code. The property has also failed to provide its promised shared facilities. The half-court gym is always locked; I rarely see it ever in use, and from what I've seen and used regarding the mailing system for the first days, there was no security for packages. They were stacked in a neat pile in the main lobby, and nobody was making sure that people weren't just taking stuff. Purely an honors system until they were able to establish the parcel boxes. What rubs salt in the wound the most is that instead of addressing these prolific problems with the building, their priorities, I've seen, are to repaint the hallways and half-court gym, set up a new vending machine in the main lobby, and set up their stupid events. If you're a student, don't go here. If you have self-respect, find somewhere that respects you. This place prioritizes optimizing profits, not providing suitable living for people, but rather treats them as cattle.

I think The Union at Dearborn is an okay place to live overall. The staff has honestly been great. Everyone I’ve interacted with has been kind, helpful, and easy to work with, which I really appreciate. My biggest issue is with the AC. I understand they shut it off during the winter so the system does not break, which makes sense. But the weather has already been warm enough where that should not really be a concern anymore, and the AC still has not been turned back on. My apartment has been sitting at 82 degrees, and I do not have windows I can open, so it gets uncomfortable very quickly. For $1,550 a month, I just expect better living conditions than that.

Lived here from 2021 - 2026. Mold is an everlasting problem. Maintenance is often slow even for emergencies like roof leaks. Heating and ac go offline often and tend to have mystery smells at random. Wifi and power outages last long and from experience lasted a week at longest. Rent is high and almost as much for regular apartments (for more expensive options are often out of the question). Vending machines will randomly stop working often. Fine enough for short stays not worth long term commitments.

If I could leave a negative star rating I would😂. - this place charged me for a microwave that was already broken before I moved in. They charged me and my roommates for a microwave that was already broken.That’s how they replace most of the items in the building. They charge residents for already broken items. They also added the charge to my account with my rent so I don’t have a choice but to pay it. Such SCAMMERS. - i had a earwig and bug problem that they never fixed. I would have them in my bed in my bathroom. I feel bad for who ever moved into my room because they have to deal with the bugs now. - the bathrooms grow would no matter how much you clean them. - the walls and floors are also paper thin so you can hear everything your neighbor does. PLEASE DONT RENT HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT.

I moved in September 2024 and live alone in one of the newer units, but this is my experience so far: Price & Amenities: Yes, it's costly. With roommates it's not so bad, but all in all, this apartment complex offers a lot. Utilities, Heating, Cooling, Cable and high speed internet with gigabit ethernet! The team also constantly goes above and beyond to make sure the residents are comfortable and always looking for hear ideas on how to improve. I genuinely think it's worth every cent considering the amenities, included utilities, heating, cable/internet, property management team efforts, and location. There is a respectfully equipped gym, one main lounging area with games and private study areas, a secondary lounge, a media room, vending machines, etc. Maintenance: I have personally had great experiences with maintence requests being fulfilled in a timely manner. There are some issues that are intermittently persistent, but maintenance is free if it isn't resident damaged and the property manager is super understanding if something is a build issue rather than a resident created issue. Location: I don't think I have to say much here. It's barely a 5 minute walk across evergreen with high visible pedestrian crosswalks to the U of M Dearborn campus. There are bike trails and walking paths. One goes behind the school and into downtown Dearborn which is a lively college and young adult inspired environment. The canteen is a short walk down the Union parking lot and sometimes has incentivevs for Union residents! I genuinely think this is an apartment complex that truly tries to be the best they can for their residents and community.
