SOL at West Village, davis-ca

DO NOT LIVE HERE!! This is a warning to all UC Davis students who care about their own wellbeing. This apartment does not care about you, your happiness, or really anything except money. Amenities are constantly broken (printer has never worked, hot tub is cold, etc). The worst thing is that for my friends and I, there are constant maintenance issues that they will tell you to just "put in a request for," and then after about a week or so, will clear the request and mark it as fixed without even entering your apartment or addressing the issue. I had a pest issue that they refused to address for the entire quarter by doing this cycle of maintenance request --> clear the request. When I finally snapped, they said that they couldn't fix the issue (which by the way, is illegal by California law). The move in condition of my apartment was abysmal. The stove, washer/dryer, oven, dishwasher, and microwave are all very old and clanky. So many more issues I could go on for so long. For the extreme jacked up prices of rent and fees compared to everywhere else, this should be and feel like a luxury apartment and rest assured IT DOES NOT!! DO NOT LIVE HERE!!

Sol at West Village is an outstanding student apartment community that really gets the balance right. The location is hard to beat—easy walking distance to campus, plus a bus stop right next door for extra convenience. The amenities go beyond the basics, with pools, dedicated study spaces, and even a dog playground that makes it feel like a complete living environment rather than just housing. What stands out most is the sense of community—regular resident events and parties make it easy to meet people and unwind. On top of that, the maintenance team is responsive and reliable, which makes a huge difference in day-to-day living. Overall, it’s a well-run, thoughtfully designed place that makes student life both easier and more enjoyable. Highly recommend.

There’s bugs everywhere and pest control will take at least a week and half to get back to you (not fix the problem to get back to you) and honestly just the worst place to live since the buildings are so so old and also there’s wasp nests everywhere the stairs near your house EVERYWHERE. not just that they love to take your money whether it’s because you lost your keys or if you’re simply existing. It genuinely sucks and the only thing that made it better was having a cat but then they made me pay for pet amenities that they so graciously provide but they are mainly just for dogs. make it make sense. don’t live here no matter what anyone says nothing is close by and there’s cheaper BETTER places.

Our guide was new and awesome!! He was knowledgeable and thoughtful. We are not sure it is a perfect fit for us because the rooms are very small and common space is a bit awkward size/shape.

As a UC Davis student, when I first started my college life, I was extremely excited to move into West Village apartments. ⚠️However, what I did not expect to follow was constantly increasing rent, spider webs around the entrance, all kinds of flying insects and ants, unreasonable contract terms, and hidden fees. etc. 👇🏻 What shocked me the most was that once my toilet was broken. A maintenance worker entered my apartment while I was not home, did not fix anything, and left a pile of trash bags in my bathroom. I was absolutely terrified at the time—I thought it was a burglary. The next day, another maintenance worker came and directly charged me a $70 maintenance fee. When we moved in in 2021, West Village clearly told us that if we could not continue living there due to early graduation, we could pay a lease termination fee to end the contract early. However, on the day I graduated early and contacted West Village, all of their staff told me that this option no longer existed. I truly wanted to take this property management company to court. They have many extremely unreasonable practices and legal loopholes. 👨🏼‍⚖️I once had a professional lawyer review the contract for me. In the end, the reason I did not choose to go to court with West Village was because I was about to graduate and I am an out-of-state student. For such a terrible property, it was not worth my time to fight a lawsuit. However, I sincerely hope that current students do not come here and do not get deceived.🙏 In order to save money, their property management often hires students to work at the front desk. The problem is that these students have not received professional training and do not know how to handle anything properly. Even something as simple as updating a key cannot be done correctly. Everything is handled poorly, and I am extremely angry. If you choose to save money by hiring students, then train them properly as your employees. I truly believe that within five years, no one will dare to rent from your property.
