My partner and I lived at University Suites for almost 3 years. I say almost because we signed our lease to move in August 2022, and we recently moved out in June 2025. We were set to renew again, but I graduated with my Master's degree and got a job in a different part of the state. I went looking for apartments in the Cullowhee area late, so options were slim. I toured a place that made me feel unsafe, and I scrambled to contact different offices to see if there were any other options. We ended up driving to University Suites to talk with the leasing manager, and lo and behold, we found what we were looking for. A two-bedroom furnished unit, close to the school, and affordable. We ended up having the unit that was right next to the dumpster, which was convenient. Sometimes, the dumpster trucks would wake us up and/or be in our way, but that is not really something that can be controlled. The units come with a washer/dryer, a refrigerator/freezer, a stovetop/oven, and a microwave. I was really happy with these appliances being provided. The maintenance team at University Suites has provided excellent service to us. They come in from time to time to check things like fire extinguishers, air filters, and do other testing. They also do quarterly pest control sprays, which have been excellent. We lived on the first floor and I had never seen a bug- seriously! I was surprised because usually the first floor is the worst for bugs. The bedrooms were comfortable, and we made them our own with the help of Command Strips. The apartment complex also has a 24/7 gym, a pool, a study room, and a car washing station. I thought that these amenities were very great and loved that they were available for residents. This complex is marketed as one that is quiet and comfortable, so things like parties and loud music are not allowed. As a graduate student and new professional, I had no issues with that rule. Mail was centralized to one location, and packages were left right at your door. There were a couple of things that I did not LOVE about the complex, like the desk that they provided. As a student and professional, that desk is not really suitable for people these days. The appliances are also a little dated, but they were functional. We had issues with leaks from our upstairs neighbors or upstairs in general a couple of times, and we were provided with quick and excellent service. Parking was never an issue for us, but it seemed to fill up as the night went on (as it does). Visitor parking is plentiful and we never had any issues welcoming visitors. Rent is due monthly and the electric bill is due quarterly. We really enjoyed our time here and would wholly recommend staying here to anyone.

University Suites was an amazing and affordable place to live. I had great experiences with Ginger and she was very helpful, gracious, and understanding. I had a lot of health issues and she was extremely kind to me. I never had issues with pests or anything, and I loved living in my studio that was furnished. It was cozy! I loved living by the dumpster because it was convenient to take trash out. I worked third shift so I was occasionally woken up by garbage trucks, but it was truly a great experience. I don't think I have anything to complain about except how I wish I stayed there! Cullowhee was so far from Asheville and from my work, so that made it hard. I left after Hurricane Helene to be closer to family, but if I ever come back to the area, I'd love to return there. It was my home with great memories. Thanks, Ginger!!!

I was hesitant to live in an apartment after living in a hell house. Surprisingly, although I’m in a four bedroom, the apartment feels much bigger and much safer. Rent is affordable and you get a lot with it. The apartment itself is in pretty decent shape. There’s in unit laundry, a kitchen, living room, and each bedroom has its own private walk in closet and bathroom. Maintenance is pretty quick to fix any issues you might have and I’ve never had any problems with management. Majority of people here respect the noise rule and it’s pretty quiet, especially during the semester. Parking is a bit tricky sometimes but there’s enough that it’s not a big deal. My only issue is that the appliances need a bit of an update but are still perfectly usable and there’s no elevators for anyone who might have mobility issues.

The Suites and Villas are excellent. They’re my first recommendation to anyone looking for great quality and affordable student housing in Cullowhee. Every apartment I’ve lived in has been fully furnished and well maintained with reliable, updated appliances. I’ve lived at both the Suites and Villas for over 5 years. Management has always been polite and considerate of tenant needs. Maintenance has always been reliable and timely with repairs. Rent is the most fair and affordable in the area considering the quality of apartments, appliances, and the amenities provided. Amenities are always clean and well kept.

I was in a crunch and Ginger really helped me out. I love the spaciousness of the bedrooms and shared living spaces. I am a college student and it really makes a difference how quiet it is up here. The commute to campus is unbeatable. As well as, my neighbors are very friendly and I have met built really good friendships from living here. I have lived at rentals while being in Cullowhee, and this is by far the best place to live!
