Communication and move-out handling were very frustrating. Even though I gave more than 60 days’ notice and moved out as planned, I was later told I remained responsible for rent for many additional months and was charged additional fees. When I found someone willing to take over the lease, the sublease/relet process was very difficult because the leasing office often did not respond to emails from the prospective tenant who was trying to complete the application. This caused a lot of unnecessary stress for both of us. It is really speechless. Especially the new tenant, who is new to the country, they put her in a very frustrating situation, and it also made me very frustrated.

Predatory pricing. Difficult people to work with. Right next to the trains too. Be wary

I used to have a very positive opinion of the Flats over the last two years I’ve lived here, but I cannot attest to how after being bought out and being put under new management how much the apartment has worsened. Multiple stairwells have had trash sitting for almost weeks now with many trash cans piling, the 24/7 pool is no longer a listed amenity and is fully GREEN because they no longer take care of it, the hot tub is also not even heated currently, the beeping in the lobby area of the apartment has returned after being fixed for some time, multiple chairs are broken in the pool area along with the grills, and rent has risen substantially alongside also including gas and water. So the public amenities have gotten worse / less maintained while prices have only risen substantially.

Elevator broken for months at a time, fire alarms going off throughout the day and night, WiFi will stop working frequently (hope you’re not doing homework online), very nice staff but terrible ownership

Living here is a roller coaster. When I first moved in, I thought it would be amazing but the course of the last half year has proven the opposite. The countless fire alarms, elevators being broken down, as well as the filthiness of the hallways, elevators, stairs, parking garage, and general common areas all point to a lack of care from management. Speaking of the elevators, they are absolutely terrible even when they’re functioning. Once I’ve had to wait over 10 minutes for an elevator to come down to B2 (where I park my car), and by then one of my grocery bags busted and it was a nightmare carrying it to my apartment. The cost to live here is just completely unreasonable when compounded with these issues, and while I’ve had a better experience communicating with the new management, it’s not enough to make me want to renew for the next year. Another gripe is the washer/dryer situation. The models used in my apartment are absolutely tiny; I can barely fit 5 days worth of laundry in there and I don’t even go through clothes that quickly. At least the view is nice right? Save yourself the trouble and find somewhere cheaper and closer to UVA.
