I’ve lived at Union Chapel Hill for a bit now, and overall my experience has been pretty good. It’s definitely not terrible, but I do think it’s a little overhyped. The price is honestly kind of high for what you get, especially since there are cheaper options that are closer to campus. One thing I will say is that maintenance has been great. Anytime I had issues with my dryer or dishwasher, they fixed it pretty quickly, which I really appreciated. The staff in general were fine, nothing amazing but nothing awful either. I will say though, Chloe, the manager, came off kind of condescending when I had an issue with my kitchen, which was frustrating. The apartment itself was fine, but not perfect. When I moved in, there was already some damage, which wasn’t a great first impression. Also, the walls are super thin, so you can hear a lot of what’s going on around you, which can get annoying pretty fast. The shuttle is probably one of the most annoying parts. Sometimes it just wouldn’t run for days, which is super unreliable when you’re trying to get to class. There is a bus stop right outside Union, which helps a lot, but the shuttle would sometimes take you closer to where you actually need to go, so it’s disappointing when it’s not working. There are a lot of nice amenities like the pool, but it gets really overcrowded because people bring friends all the time, and Union doesn’t really enforce their own rules about that. It makes it hard to actually enjoy the space. Also, having guests over is kind of a hassle because there’s basically no parking unless you reserve guest parking ahead of time, and if you don’t, your friend risks getting towed. One thing that bothered me was seeing cockroaches around. I personally have only had to deal with a couple, but they are definitely there, which isn’t great. Also, a lot of the super positive reviews seem kind of suspicious and feel like they might be written by employees or people connected to them just to boost ratings. That said, living here has been fine overall, just not as amazing as it’s made out to be.

Chloe and McKenzie are the best, love living here so far, the customer service is on point and these girls are able to help me with any questions about my apartment or the amenities. Maintenance is reliable and quick. Fixed my bathroom and heat when we experienced issues, immediately. So happy I chose this place!

Our son’s move-in at Union Chapel Hill was an absolute nightmare. The apartment was filthy, clearly not cleaned or inspected after the previous tenants moved out. Every surface was grimy, the floors were disgusting, and we spent over 16 hours across two days cleaning just to make it livable. Fixtures and furniture were in terrible condition: a rusted, broken dishwasher, uncaulked sink causing cabinet water damage and mold, cracked refrigerator shelves, and stained, unsanitary furniture. For the price families pay here, this level of neglect is unacceptable. We documented everything with photos, submitted maintenance requests, and even escalated the issue to the CEO and upper management. While upper management initially responded and promised a prompt follow-up within 24 hours, more than six weeks have passed with no further response or resolution. The lack of accountability and communication is extremely disappointing. To make matters worse, the visitor parking policy makes it nearly impossible for families to visit their students. Passes are only available during office hours, parking is far away, and tow trucks patrol constantly making even short visits risky. We chose this complex because the tours and staff seemed professional and the facilities appeared well-maintained. Sadly, our actual experience has been the opposite. I truly hope management addresses these issues so no other families have to go through this again. Would give zero or negative stars if it was an option.

Great amenities and location. However I’m very skeptical of the utilities I was charged during my stay there. I lived in a 3b3b but I was paying the same utilities during the semester and over the summer when both of my roommates were not there (they haven’t officially moved out so us three were still splitting the utilities). I was paying $100/month for utilities myself, so basically $300/month utilities for the unit. asked maintenance to check if there’s any leakage or errors but was told there were none. This is really high for our area so y’all be aware of the utilities here. Their shuttle bus is not rly on time and always full in the morning. It will be running late when you actually need it to go somewhere on time.

Union Chapel Hill just announced they're switching visitor parking to a paid system through ParkStash starting June 2026. First 2 hours are free, but after that it's $2/hr or $13/day, with no grace period and a tow threat if you enter your vehicle info wrong. Previously visitors just picked up a free pass at the leasing office. For what you pay in rent here, nickel-and-diming guests feels like a tone-deaf decision. Worth factoring in if you're considering signing a lease.
