Redstone Lofts, burlington-vt

I miss this apartment. All rules are laid out extremely clearly by management--everything from parking stickers, to submitting fix-its, to any other complaints. If you read the rules and follow them, there will be absolutely no issues. Perhaps those leaving poor reviews either can't read, or choose not to. Either way, my girlfriend and I lived here during our Senior year at UVM, and Rich made sure our experience here was comfortable and accommodating. From central air, to a nice kitchen, to Burlington Telecom high speed internet, all on top of an amazing view and close proximity to campus buses, it's truly the perfect place to live for a UVM student. While the initial price is steep, remember that utilities (minus electricity and a cheap internet fee) are included, which cannot be said for most places downtown that are poorly insulated and therefore require an outlandish heating cost. While desks are provided at The Lofts, I'd recommend a trip to Ikea to help maximize comfort and space (as shown by my workstation, pictured below). The fitness center is great when the UVM gym is closed, and playing pool, foosball and ping pong late at night are also solid perks.

The air conditioning didn’t work very often, and for over a month it didn’t work before move out. They didn’t compensate at all for the apartment being over 80 degrees. Elevator also doesn’t work sometimes and this can be as long as a week so definitely not a place to live if you require an elevator for getting up and down floors. Certain lights in my apartment didn’t work for my entire lease, and maintenance couldn’t fix it. Furniture is cheap, windows don’t open all the way, mail is lost, the people in the office are hardly ever present, parking is scarce and an extra $75 a month. Absolutely save yourself money and time and don’t live here! If you get locked out of your apartment on a weekend (and you only get one key) it can cost over $200 to have someone let you in. Also, elevator dropped a few feet with me in it once. I could write a whole essay on how much I regret living here, the disrespect for the comfort of residents, and how unhelpful the staff is.

Not impressed with maintenance nor the management. Although appliances are included, it’s apparent that they’ve definitely cut corners as my hvac system frequently makes a rattling noise which despite what they say isn’t “normal”. It has also randomly died a few times over the summer and getting that fixed took forever so I was forced to deal with it until it they got the right parts and crew to come. When they came to fix it, one crew member explained to me that the cause was because “it’s a cheap appliance”. They’ve also recently spent money on upgrading the already very modern lounge area and it’s questionable why they didn’t invest in more practical things like appliances. Their management is hard to reach as well. Lastly, they ticketed my car on the same day I had informed them of my handicapped placard approval and are still requesting that I pay it even though they had responded in the late afternoon before they closed and didn’t attach the paperwork until the next day. I had received the ticket that night. Btw be warned that if you’re in a single or a double there are only two washers and dryers in the building… I’m looking elsewhere for housing next year and I suggest you do the same.

nice rooms for a decent price. impenetrable website with staff that doesnt respond to calls at any reasonable hour. trying to apply is miserable because sometimes the application form just breaks and entirely locks you out on an error screen. apartments missing very basic amenities (mine somehow didn’t have a trash can). halfway through the year, when i didn’t get a bike permit, they cut my lock 3 days before the date bikes were supposed to be removed. Genuinely very nice and reasonably priced rooms but getting anything done with staff is such a headache that i have to recommend you look elsewhere instead

The Redstone Lofts UVM was the perfect solution for my housing needs. It is basically right on campus, but it has the independent feel of being off campus. It was great not having to buy furniture, as it is fully furnished with reasonably nice furniture and appliances. The price seems a tad bit excessive, but it is incredibly difficult to find a price that could compare with the amenities available to those who live in the Lofts. A few extra visitor spaces in the parking lot would be really nice as well.
