Do yourself a favor and go and look at all the yelp reviews, too! Everyone has had AC issues and been charged exorbitant fees via their little inspections. It appears that if you don’t pay them, they will send it to collections! Our daughter has been there 1.5 months, and given the poor condition of the apartment upon move-in, we had no idea that a little piece missing from a mini blind (that was like that upon move-in) would cost the girls $56!!! Document and take pictures of every little thing that you might even consider normal wear and tear upon move-in or you will be charged to replace it! Update to AC issue: A part on the HVAC unit was replaced and it worked for a few days until there was another leak on the floor. Maintenance came out and the unit was supposedly fixed again until the 3rd leak occurred. Now their AC is out until some part comes in…no idea when that will occur…mind you, they’ve had AC for a handful of days since they moved in 5 weeks ago!!! Also, my daughter is having breathing issues and ended up in the hospital last night…I have no doubt this is due to mold. She removed her AC register to find the area beneath totally black. This apartment complex was new over 30 years ago when I went to VT, so I was interested to see what it would be like now. I see it hasn’t seen too many updates and changes over the years. My daughter just moved into a ground floor apartment almost 3 weeks ago and we’ve had nothing but problems. The AC didn’t work and they’ve had a temporary unit for almost 3 weeks - with a duct leading to a window which has to stay open - very dangerous on a ground floor apartment with 4 women! There was a water leak in the unit above them that was leaking through the ceiling and down onto their floor..they just came and cut a hole in the ceiling and left it..never coming back to patch or do any water/mold remediation. Huge ant problem..my daughter went to class and found ants all throughout her backpack..just gross! You can’t talk to a real person..always the AI answering service. Update - just got a call back from a gentleman in the office and he said that all of these problems would be taken care of this week. I hope that’s the case and will update accordingly!

When you move in (which I suggest you never do), you will be moving into an apartment that looks like it has never been cleaned. We had to spend hours cleaning to make it livable. I’m not sure what they do in the months in between old residents moving out and new residents moving in, but it is not cleaning or basic repairs. Upon arrival, on top of the layers of dirt and dust, there was a broken outlet with wires exposed up against my bed, posing a fire hazard. Drains were all completely clogged and had to be cleaned. Giant wads of hair had to be removed before drains were even operable. Maintenance is generally condescending and unhelpful, except for one new hire who was lovely. They will inevitably take shortcuts on fixing things which will then need to be properly fixed later, or they will not even fix things and lie to say they did. They will also nickel and dime you when you move out. While they are supposed to document (and fix) any issues before you move in, they will not do so, even though it is in the housing agreement. You will be financially responsible for issues left by previous tenants unless you fight tooth and nail with the office. Take photos of EVERYTHING!! While this is technically a cheaper apartment complex, you are paying for the quality of accommodation and services provided (or not provided). While the pool is open seasonally, the season is depressingly short, and they will inevitably be doing maintenance that either delays the opening or closes the pool for an extended period of time (meaning you will likely never be able to use the pool during the school year). Do NOT park under any trees. When half of a tree fell on top of multiple residents’ cars, they only removed that portion and left the remainder of the dying tree with the obviously rotting core exposed to the elements. Please believe all of the negative reviews and live anywhere else, as the positive reviews are the outliers for Alight. Edit: Alight says we should have reported cleanliness issues upon move in, meaning they would have wanted us to wait to move in until after our already scheduled move in day and time for them to supposedly come and clean the apartment. They were supposed to professionally clean prior to move in, which I can assure you they DO NOT DO!! Additionally, there should not be pre existing issues or damages to the apartment, as they are supposed to inspect, clean, and address any damages. Which again, they DO NOT DO! Please live anywhere else. Alight Blacksburg does not care about their residences. Their responses are completely apathetic and full of lies.

Great experience with this complex. The staff were great to work with and any issues that my son had were attended to quickly. Overall, it is very clean and the furniture provided was in great condition. Appliances worked well and balconies are nice. We highly recommend this apartment complex to any student at VT. GO HOKIES!

Genuinely the worst complex and management I’ve ever experienced. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! Listen to the reviews!!! The head management, Lexi Hopkins, deserves nothing but the worst treating residents and their PETS with zero professionalism or care. Management will ignore your calls/emails with concerns, or hang up on you mid conversation, and will even ignore you in person. Overcharged for CONSTANT broken AC, leaking ceilings, moldy bathrooms and worse if you can believe it. Just overall disgusting space and disgusting people as management. Wish I could give negative stars. Edit: And their generated responses back to any negative reviews are straight lies. The lack of integrity of this complex is absurd.

If you are looking for an apartment, save your time and look elsewhere. All the negative reviews are true and YOU SHOULD LISTEN!! The price you would be paying for this far below average apartment is absolutely not worth it. I recently moved out of Alight and to say I am disappointed is an understatement. First of all, while I had a few fine interactions, most of the staff is rude and condescending. They provide inconsistent information and are overall uninformed on how things are supposed to be conducted. It seems as if their employees make up their own rules and requirements based on apartment, meaning every apartment and individual resident are not held to the same standard or handled the same overall. All of my roommates and I were told different information, all of which contradicted each other. Shouldn’t they have a document stating how their own business should be conducted? They are extremely unorganized and unprofessional. Secondly, the way they handle move in and move out is horrible and, again, inconsistent. When you are moving in (which you SHOULD NOT), do not bother wasting your time taking pictures of damages left behind by past residents because they will not accept them. While I understand date can be manipulated, this is the only way someone is actually able to provide proof of previous damage because they do not conduct move-in inspections or tell you how to conduct your own, even though they say they do. Going off of this, quarterly inspections do not accurately reflect the true status of your apartment. Many things I was charged for was never addressed to me or on my resident portal after said inspections. What’s the point of coming into my apartment, in which I am actively living in, to inspect it if they are not accurate or useful in any way? Not to mention, they attempted to charge my roommate for something that was pictured in a past inspection photo which had since been removed/fixed. They will try to nickel and dime you for anything and everything, which is sad considering most of their residents are college students and cannot afford that. In regards to maintenance, most of the staff do not really care to help your issues. My roommates and I submitted maintenance requests and instead of actually fixing the issue they would tinker around for a few minutes and say something was fixed when it truly wasn’t. I would just like to reiterate that you should look elsewhere for somewhere to live, as there are great places in Blacksburg that are closer to campus, less expensive, and have a more professional management system.
