Alight Birmingham, birmingham-al

Genuinely wished that this place had better management!! They don't do anything for their residents regardless of if there's a leak or mold at the apartment. I stayed at Alight for 2 years and I am so glad to be out of that place. Yes, the rent is fairly cheaper than other apartments nearby but it’s not livable with the mold and the constant fire alarms. They also have random "check-ins" and this isn't the dorms where the RA does a monthly checkups. If you also get a room next to the trash, its absolutely horrendous with how the trash maintenance is as well.

This has been one of the worst experiences I have had. This is my third year living here, and I lived here because my friends were living here and rent is cheap. Alight Birmingham has consistently been problematic and very difficult to work with. I am so thankful this is my last year with them. Over my experience, the complex has been consistently dirty and disorganized, there have been gunshots in the apartment complex multiple times with a robbery practically right outside my room. On top of that they give very little notice when they are doing maintenance. The one thing positive I will say is that rent is cheap, and that’s all the only good thing about it.

I was just here for 2 months for the summer and it is the worse place I’ve ever lived. First of all, when I moved in my apartment was nasty and both the shower and toilet were broken. It took 5 days for them to fix the shower. My apartment had flies, roaches, and ants. It also smelled bad. The dryer was broken. My roommates have been submitting maintenance requests since March about it (5 in total!) every time it just gets marked as complete and they never come to look at it. The AC broke twice. The fire alarm once went off for 2 hours straight (it doesn’t help that they chose the worst alarm noise for it) And despite the apartment being “pet free” there is dog poop all over the hallways. I’ve stepped in some before. Management is rude and doesn’t care about you. The girl I subleased from PAID ME to live here and I see why.

Alight is actually the worst. I moved in straight after someone’s roommate moved out, so there was no inspection between. I came into an apartment with hair, dust, grime, nails on the floor, a rusty shower hook in the toilet (which stained it, but won’t be fixed bc it’s considered “cosmetic”) and broken blinds & air conditioning. It is 83° in my apartment as I type this. They never got back to me about doing anything about those things, besides multiple multiple work orders and it still hasn’t been fixed in months. No one tells you when maintenance men are coming, so they can quite literally walk into your apartment while you’re napping with no warning. Whatever your other option is when you’re considering apartments, choose that.

Non residents have huge parties blasting very loud music and smoking weed waving guns around in the pool area and management does nothing about it. Trash chute overflows into the hallway frequently. The code on the front gate is broken so anyone can get in including homeless people that bang on peoples doors. My bathroom ceiling is covered in black mold from a leak that maintenance was too lazy to fix even after I complained about it dripping for weeks. My apartment was very dirty when I moved in, they even painted over the hair they left on the baseboards and the bathtub was covered in mold and mildew. Alight has been awful and I can’t wait for my lease to end so I can rent elsewhere. Trust me, the extra $100 a month to go somewhere nicer is worth it.
