Rochdale Village Apartments, berkeley-ca

After having lived in student housing, I found the Berkeley Student Co-Op and as a re-entry student (over 25) I feel like I found my place, the place where I can feel at home. I've been living at Rochdale Apartments for almost a year and I wish I had known about Rochdale from the beginning of my time here at Berkeley. Here I've enjoyed having my own bedroom as well as my own kitchen and bathroom with no roommates to have to worry about. You do have to accumulate a certain number of points within the Co-Op system in order to earn the right to a studio, but I lucked out because I got a 2-bedroom apartment and the second bedroom stayed vacant. Rochdale has it's own little park called Davis Park where you can enjoy a cookout or shoot some hoops, or just sit and relax among the many plants and trees, some of them fruit trees! All in all I've been very happy during my time here at Rochdale. I will say however, that if you're looking for state-of-the-art conditions you should at least first visit Rochdale so you can decide whether it is right for you, because it's an old building and from time to time we have had minor issues with the wifi for example, especially during rainy days, and it's definitely not a modern apartment building. I'm happy with what I consider simpler accommodations where I can enjoy my privacy in my apartment as well as some social time at karaoke in the Ice Room or at a cookout in Davis Park. I definitely recommend it, especially since you won't find a better deal for your money in Berkeley!

Living in Rochdale is a great experience. Excellent communal spaces, lots of cool people, and extremely affordable. If you're a student who wants affordable apartment-style housing in the area, I couldn't recommend anywhere else more!

It’s by far the worst place I’ve ever lived. When we moved in, there was mold in the kitchen, stains on the walls, and even feces left in the toilet. During my stay, a water leak in my dorm damaged my clothes, yet Rochdale offered no compensation. The staff were extremely unhelpful and seemed indifferent to the living conditions, focusing instead on social activities. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place at all costs!

A co-op for students of UC Berkeley. Up to 3 roommates. First come first served on room choice, so get there first. You can swap out beds, and paint your room. Number of hours of community chores. There is a list. Also has a free pile where all sorts of things get left. If you have a street facing window be prepared for a boisterous homeless population in the evening. No parking available. Close to campus and restaurants. Locked gate.

Cheapest apartments youll find in Berkeley. Beautiful garden and cool staff. Living here is a bit sad if you dont know people or are willing tio go out of your way to meet people. WOuld definitely not recommedn living here as a freshman, start at a coop house.
