The Verge at Asheville, asheville-nc

!!!DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! The Verge Asheville was the first apartment I lived in that wasn’t located directly on a college campus. I was thrilled to have my own room with a bathroom, but was QUICKLY disappointed. UNC-Asheville (from my knowledge) had an agreement where students could live in two specific Verge Buildings where payment was on our tuition bill rather than month-to-month rent. I chose this option and was under a different kind of lease compared to the other residents in other buildings. I believe University Housing has canceled this deal for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. My first issue began when I tried bringing my kitten into an apartment. I reached out to the office and read the guidelines, and my cat was following every policy they gave me. When I registered my cat, they responded with a completely new pet policy. I was completely blindsided and forced to move my cat elsewhere. My roommate also had an issue with them midway into our lease with her cat that was an ESA. They forced her to get updated vet records, or else the cat was to be relocated within 24 hours. I watched my roommate panic and miss class for incompetence on the Verge’s behalf. If you’re someone thinking this complex is pet–friendly, please understand it is the exact opposite. They have VERY strict rules for animals, and their dog park is pitiful. My next issue was safety. This complex is primarily college-aged students at UNC-Asheville. Funnily enough, when I had called UNCA police for an issue, they told me that they were not responsible for anything happening on the property. Which is weird, given that my apartment was technically university housing. There were numerous car break-ins that never got solved, even though they have cameras everywhere. When my boyfriend and I stayed together over Thanksgiving break (when most students go home or elsewhere), a man was knocking on doors with creepy behavior and trying to enter apartments. As a young woman, I felt unsafe at The Verge every day. Next was my move-out procedure. One week before my graduation, I received an email from UNC-A’s housing office claiming I needed to move out the day after graduation. I got no such communication from The Verge and was panicking immensely. When I had reached out to them about possibly renewing or subleasing an apartment for the summer, I heard nothing back. They sent out numerous emails on move-out protocols, in which they claim that any common room damage is given to the last person to move out. Since my roommates at the time were still enrolled at UNC-A, they stayed the rest of the summer, leaving me no responsibility for any damage to our living room. In August (3 months after I moved out), I received a text message from their AI chatbot, saying I had over 200 dollars in damages. When I asked for what, it was mostly common space damages. Most, if not all, of my friends who lived at the Verge received egregious charges for random things. The Verge is a money-hungry apartment complex that knows how to manipulate their clientele. Anyone thinking of living here: please choose somewhere else. There are much better luxury apartments in Asheville that offer you better amenities for a similar cost. The Verge is unsafe, unclean, and unwelcoming. After moving elsewhere in the area, I have had a MUCH better experience and came to realize how truly awful this complex was!

Amber at the front desk was a joy to talk to! Me and my friend lived here for a year and it was great for a first time apartment. Wayne was also our favorite maintenance worker. Both of them made an effort to be friendly and get to know us!

I moved in recently and I'm extremely new to all of this, just turned 18. My experience thus far has been as great as I expected, only $600 a month and that includes utilites and mantience. For a college student, this price is great. I give four stars as I've mostly seen I've gotten lucky, not everyones experience has been this good so far but I can't complain too much personally. Maintenance, even in a busy week like move-in week has been great to me so far though I've only had small problems. My point being The Verge isn't perfect, but for a person's first time in housing outside of parents it's a good enough place to consider home. And maybe that's all it needs to be.

living here for the past two years were something i'd like to called "mas o menos" I began living here in august of 2024 but i didn't move in until late august and was still charged a full months rent. I was a little confused on why i couldn't pick whether i wanted to be upstaris or downstairs. neverthless it wasn't bad until we were being charged a 10 high floor fee, which again i understand that it's mandatory but at the same time I didn't get to choose to be upstairs, i was placed there. As far as for how much space we had i don't think we had enough for three people living there and again that all depends on how much a person brings. our smoke detectors were very sensitve just turning on the oven to heat up, or even putting things in the microwave would activate the smoke detecter. When Helena happened in septemeber we were still obligued to pay rent even though most of us didn't have it yet since helena happned on a weekend, and around that time was when the verge swirched companies and we were being told that we'd get a credit for those who had to leave after helena happned. I didn't receieve my credit until late november and i used it up to januray. then it was that our electric bill was no longer gonna be covered through the verge but duke energy and one of us had to make an account. Then it was that we had to prove for the next year's lease that we were an enroll student to still lived in the apartments and at the time i was graduating in decemebr and had planned to renew with them but when i found out about this news was when i decide not to renew. Then it turned out you no longer had to prove that you were a student and that the energy bill will go back to being covered by the verge and, when i found out about this news it was much too late for me to renew since the rates were high. i paid 820 each month which isn't bad but seeing as that your paying for just a room and even though you get your own bathroom and closet still it feels a bit pricey for just a room. the people at the front desk were nice, i will say that they teneded to gossip alot about their management which I thought was a little unprofessional. our AC stopped working and my roommates ceiling was leaking and apparently the maintance people said that their boss was on one and that hopefully he remembers to fix our AC, he didn't and we didn't have AC for two weeks. the gym was probably my favorite part of the verge, AS far as roomate issues, i didn't really have any. I will say i don't recommend living with your closest friends because then problems will come out. but i feel as though since the verge switch companises they were a little unorganized for awhile, but overall i had some good moments and bad moments. not to mention we had a power outage that we were never told what had happened after and we were without power for a few hours. during the snow storms they forgot to put salt on the road going down into the traffic lights resulting my car four others to crash and yet they took no responsiblity and didn't even check in on us. would i recommend living here, I mean if you need somewhere to live yeah, but I'd look at other places first.

These apartments are geared towards UNCA students as non-dormitory housing, but you are able to rent as a non-student. The apartments are rented by room, each of which has their own bathroom (hooray!), and the rent is... How to say it? First come first serve? While you don't need to pay water or internet, and you only pay a fraction of electric (management company covers a large chunk of electric while tenants are each responsible for a portion of the rest of the amount), rent can range between $620 to $900 for the technical single room. If you renew the second the renewal period comes up, you'll be able to snag a lower rent, but if you wait you'll be forced to take a higher cost. Building 1900 also has a MASSIVE forid fly problem. These flies live in drains and require methods of removal PHYSICALLY INACCESSIBLE to tenants. These flies made me go through $80+ worth of Zevo stick pads, $60+ of Draino, and caused such a horrible mental break down I cleaned my bathroom sink pipes by hand. The issue was reported several times, but nothing was done. The flies only go away in winter because they cannot survive. Parking overall is nonexistent if you can't get home before 9pm, and by the time I left, the new management was trying to force guests and visitors $4 an hour to park in guest parking.
