Locale Student Housing, allendale-mi

EXTREMELY, thin walls. You will constantly hear yelling, music, and stomping in your room from the other residents, even at 1 am, bring heavy duty earplugs if you want to sleep. The people that live at this complex tend to be not great I’ll put it that way. Obnoxious and anti-social at the same time. Even for student housing this is a new low. Beer cans, zyns, and whatever belongs in the trash covers the ground. Buildings are dirty and utilities are loud (recurring theme, bring earplugs fr.). The gate is bent and barely works. Gym and yoga room are decent. Staff and maintenance are actually really good. 10/10 would recommend staying far away. Worst place I’ve ever lived by a huge margin.

I've lived at Locale for almost two years and I love it. All the staff is very kind, welcoming, and always eager to help. The maintenance team is also amazing, whether they’re fixing your shower or changing a light bulb. It’s a great place to live for students!

It is my second year living at locale and it has honestly been nothing short of exceptional. The staff are super friendly and personable, the maintenance team is awesome, and the community is kept clean. Also, Locale has free breakfast (and a coffee machine), a 24 hour gym and dance studio, free tanning beds, fun events every month, and so much more. I’m happy to call Locale my home away from home!!

Disgusted with how I've been treated by management at Locale. Had no issues my first few months but moved into a new unit and immediately started getting sick. Furnace drain pan had a leak, causing walls and floor around utility closet to become water damaged. Coil inside furnace was filled with dirt and mold. Keep in mind this was an "inspected" apartment I'd just moved into. Maintenance replaced the coil but did not properly remediate the apartment or check for mold inside walls/floor. I continued getting sick, manager Porter moved me into another "inspected" unit which also had mold inside the furnace, and dead bugs on my bed. Community manager Adam seems to only care about collecting rent, my health concerns fell on deaf ears until I threatened to stop paying. I was moved into a third unit which has now tested positive for unsafe levels of mold, yet management still demands I pay rent. Health inspector wouldn't act because mold isn't visible (presumably in the walls/floor). I'm now being treated for an inflammatory illness caused by the mold exposure I experienced at Locale. I couldn't finish my semester as planned partly because I didn't have a safe place to live. Locale has terrible communication and laughable management. I will say front desk staff were always kind and helpful, and maintenance did well on smaller fixes, but seemed unequipped to handle bigger issues. Update in response to reply from the property: This issue has not been “fully addressed.” The air quality test being referred to was taken in a previous unit, not where I’m currently located. My own dust test has proved my current apartment has unsafe levels of mold. It is a laboratory test. Air tests are not accurate in determining if a building will cause health issues. They don’t take into account dead spores or mold inside walls/floors. Locale does not take resident concerns seriously, and management will find any way possible to dismiss and invalidate you.

My roommates and I had a great experience touring. Ben, our guide, was extremely friendly and helpful- making sure all the details he gave were provided with honesty and facts. I had a few questions as well after the fact, and Ben promptly responded and answered my questions concisely and with clarity. We were on the fence between two complexes, and Ben’s blend of personable character and professionalism were more than enough to convince us Locale was the right choice.
