About this property
A private studio gives you something many students start to appreciate after the first few weeks at university—a space that's completely your own. You can cook when you want, study without interruptions and settle into a routine that works for you. That's exactly what Foss Studios student accommodation York focuses on. Instead of shared houses, the property offers self-contained studios where everything you need sits in one place.
Foss Studios York is well placed for both university campuses and York city centre, so getting to lectures, meeting friends or exploring the city doesn't become part of a long daily commute. Students also have access to shared facilities including a gym, cinema room and outdoor spaces, giving you somewhere different to spend time without leaving the building. If you've been comparing accommodation across York, Foss Studios suits students who prefer independent living while still having shared spaces available whenever they want them.
Address:
Foss Studios
32 Lawrence Street, York YO10 3DU, United Kingdom
The Foss Studios York address puts you between the University of York and York city centre, making both easy to reach. Several local bus routes stop nearby if you don't feel like walking, while York Railway Station is only a short journey away for trips home or weekends away.
The neighbourhood also covers the practical side of student life. Supermarkets, cafés, pharmacies and restaurants are all nearby, so picking up groceries or grabbing something to eat doesn't require a long detour after lectures. Lawrence Street remains one of the most convenient parts of York for students who want university, transport and the city centre within easy reach.
Every student looks for something different when choosing accommodation. Some want complete privacy, while others focus on location or facilities. Foss Studios York brings those together in one place.
Every room is a private studio with its own en-suite bathroom and kitchenette.
Both the University of York and York St John University are within walking distance.
Utility bills, Wi-Fi and contents insurance are included, making monthly budgeting much simpler.
A shared gym, cinema room and outdoor courtyard give you places to spend time outside your studio.
Secure bike storage works well if cycling becomes part of your daily journey around York.
CCTV, secure door entry and an on-site management team help the building run smoothly throughout the year.
Dual occupancy is available in selected studios if you're planning to share your accommodation.
Every room at Foss Studios student accommodation York is a self-contained studio, so you'll have your own bedroom, study space, kitchen and bathroom. The main difference between room categories comes down to floor space, layout and whether you prefer a city-facing view.

Review and ratings

So this is my review after living here for approximately 5 months. I would've given Foss Studios a 5 star rating but the only thing holding it back is the fact that the laundry service here is managed by Circuit Laundry and you only have access to 3 washers and 3 tumble dryers. That in itself tells you the struggle of having to do laundry if you're living here. Other than that, Foss Studios has been one of the better living experiences I've had since coming to the UK. The rooms that I am staying in is the Classic studio and I have my own kitchen and ensuite, which saves me lots of time and trouble from not having to clean up other people's mess as one would normally experience in the University accommodation. Location wise, its a 15-20 minute walk to the University if you fancy losing a bit of weight but there are also bus services/bus stops nearby should you feel the need to get out of the cold. Staff are friendly and my arrival to Foss was handled efficiently and smoothly by Jake (he has since moved on to bigger and better things). The current on site staff Claire and Danny (who are mostly at the reception and deal with students being locked out) are a pleasure and they make you feel welcomed whenever they see you on site. Also would like to add, those people complaining about laundry facilities and access to the car park on the weekends being unavailable, what did you think you were getting in to? I would think the management would definitely allow for cars to be parked if you give them advanced notice but obviously its under the policy of hello student to not allow unannounced vehicles into their premises. Its the same as not being able to park at someone else's work place. Its not rocket science now is it? Some students are just too spoonfed and entitled.

So far so good! I moved in this Saturday and I am loving the place. The studios are really spacious and comfy. The courtyard is kept quite tidy and clean as well as the laundry room and the interior of the buildings. The staff go above and beyond to make the residents feel like home, which is the most important aspect of the whole student accommodation thing! Great work, keep it up!

WiFi sucks in Block B. Can you believe that there are at least two hundred people living here but there are only six machines in the laundry room. Reception staff are good, and if you have some problems and reports that, they will sort it out quickly. The traffic is not bad, it’s pretty convenient to take 67/66 to campus or city centre. And the location is lovely, there are several supermarkets nearby. The church next door will ring the bell at one or two in the morning, so you need to close the windows if you want to have a good sleep.

Moved in here 3 months ago and really glad I chose this place. The location couldn't have been better, given the proximity to the city centre as well as uni. The staff is super sweet and friendly, always a delight to chat with, and they've gone above and beyond their duties to ensure our comfort and safety. Barring the ongoing covid situation, they organise events and socials so I think that's cool. Overall, the facilities and everything about this place has fairly exceeded my expectations so there's no complaints so far. Oh and the best part? Free coffee in the common room!

Foss Studios is a wonderful place to be, smoothly run by an endearing staff who are ever ready to solve any issues at hand. The studio setup allows for individual space, with sufficient care taken to provide you with basic facilities on site. The students have free access to a gym and a cinema room as well, which makes it a very wholesome experience. The management team is made of committed and dedicated staffs who ensure our security and literally look out for us. The best thing about this place is how safe it is!! Really, I consider myself so lucky to be here. It’s at the right distance from the City Centre and the Main Campus (UoY) and has so many grocery and shopping stores within easy walking distance. The bus stop is right outside the premises which makes it so easy, especially when you get off the bus at the end of a long day and realise that you are already home! The rooms, as I mentioned, are perfectly fine for a student, with necessary precautions taken care of to ensure your safety. The management is not only a very responsible set of people, but they regularly organise events and meetings for us; the ghost tour they organised for Halloween was fantastic. Glenn is quite the captain; he is always busy, yet never fails to catch up with you as he moves from one task to another. Richard and Ashley are so reassuring with their presence; always welcoming and friendly, always a joy to talk to, and so is Jo: a genuinely nice friend. The remaining staff— Andy, Steve, Grant— are as much an important pillar in running this accommodation; we cannot do without them!! Andy is definitely everyone’s rescue call! At the end of it all, I meet so many people, who when they find out where I live, say this — “Oh wow! You live at Foss? You are so lucky! I have heard that it’s really good, isn’t it?” And then they tell how they have heard so many nice things about this place. I consider myself so fortunate to be an inhabitant. This place really doesn’t need an intro. My stay here has been very wonderful and I have already booked my stay for the next year. It’s quite literally a home away from home, and Team Foss makes sure they are always there to help you sail through. Foss Studios resonate the spirit of Yorkshire— genuinely warm and loving, just like the county. Cheers
