I had a very pleasant stay at the Student Roost. The rooms are spacious, with all the utilities that you need and more than enough power plugs throughout the room. All flats have big kitchens which have sufficient separate spaces for everyone. I had no issues with hot water, and the heating worked just fine. The staff are truly helpful and kind, making your stay even more pleasent. In my opinion, the only negative thing one could say is that the garbage could be taken out at least twice a week instead of once, which on its own is not enough to change the fact that the Roost deserves a 5-star rating!

The rooms are spacious with lots of storage. The size of each flat is perfect for making close friends with flatmates. The staff are always helpful and welcoming. Both maintenance and reception are quick to respond to issues. There is a good social space (the common room) that is frequently used. The value for money is good.

I live in Ensuite Silver Room type Pros- 1. Rooms are very well architected and spacious, given the floor is wooden,it feels premium and clean. The bed has good mattress and more than enough cupboards (with one mirror) and storage space for one person. 2. The room heater works efficiently, something that you gonna need mostly, smoke detectors (works perfectly), one window, 1 study table, 2 chairs, study light near your bed, bedside storage. 3. The shared kitchen is big enough (if not huge) for 6 flatmates. They have. Dishwasher, 1 fridge (2 wod have been better but yh), 1 toaster ,1 microwave, oven,2 freezer and a many cupboards for your groceries, 1 dinning table with 6 chairs, A large couch with nice white table, 2 rubbish bins and cleaning essentials for the kitchen. 4. 15 mins walk to the campus west, bus stand right in front of the building 5. Friendly staffs at the reception 24*7 6. A small common room in the building with aesthetic seating arrangement. 7. They respond to your emails with any queries you have before/while/after booking the room. Also dont need any UK based guarantors. 8. Free wifi in the room and the building and good speed Cons- 1. Definitely on the expensive end. 2. I would have liked included room cleaning. Its below standards at times Its expensive but perfect for international students specifically if youbare landing in the UK for the first time bcs its safe and the staffs are willing to help or guide you. For instance, lost the room card, they wld to available to open the room around the clock, helped book a cab early morning to the station when my Uber app just gave up.

By far the worst place to stay in York. I honestly don’t even know where to begin. There was a serious silverfish infestation throughout the flat, with large numbers of them everywhere. I reported this many times and even pointed out where they were coming from, but nothing was done. One receptionist even told me, “Everyone has silverfish, buddy,” and said there was no need for them to waste time checking or sealing the holes. The ceiling in the hallway of the flat partially collapsed, and it was never properly fixed during my stay. The flat door was faulty and would often remain open. I reported this multiple times, but it was barely fixed, if at all. The main block door and the front gate were also not working and were left unlocked 24/7, meaning literally anyone could walk into the building. On top of that, if you forgot to manually lock your room door, it would remain unlocked as well. When I first arrived, I had no hot water. It took more than three weeks to fix, as they said they were waiting for a part to arrive. That meant I had to use cold water for almost a month. The kitchen sink was constantly blocked, sometimes even from soap, and again they always took a long time to fix it. The furniture was also extremely poor quality. My chair broke simply from sitting on it, yet I was still charged for it at the end of my stay. Another serious issue was safety and privacy. One time, while I was asleep, someone unlocked and entered my room without knocking or giving any notice. Later, the explanation I received was simply that the person was drunk. All of these issues are just a fraction of how terrible this place is. On top of everything, you pay a lot of money to stay here. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone.

really good experience, lovely location midway to uni and town, and really lovely team. i love the privacy of the rooms (noise cancelling walls) so can only hear into the corridor, and we have lots of storage and plug sockets. wifi can be spotty sometimes and maintenance problems aren’t rare, and because it’s in york it is a bit expensive, but i definitely do not regret my decision to stay here :)
