York has a way of feeling busy without ever becoming overwhelming. It's a city where medieval streets sit alongside modern university life, and before long, the walk to lectures, your favourite coffee shop and the quickest route home all become part of your everyday routine. Choosing accommodation in the right location makes settling into that routine much easier, and that's exactly where Raffles Hall student accommodation York stands out.
Located on James Street, Raffles Hall combines contemporary student living with excellent access to both of York's universities and the city centre. Whether you're looking for an en-suite room with shared social spaces or a private studio where you can enjoy complete independence, the property offers a range of options designed to suit different lifestyles.
Student accommodation in York should make university life easier, not more complicated. Somewhere comfortable to come back to after lectures, somewhere practical enough for everyday living and somewhere that gives you opportunities to meet people without making you sacrifice your own space.
That's the balance Raffles Hall manages well.
Students who enjoy the social side of university often choose one of the en-suite rooms, sharing a kitchen with flatmates while keeping the privacy of their own bathroom. Those who prefer quieter surroundings can opt for a studio, giving them complete control over their daily routine from breakfast through to late-night study sessions.
Life outside your room is just as important. The cinema room, games room, outdoor courtyards and resident lounge give people plenty of reasons to spend time together, while dedicated study rooms provide somewhere quieter whenever deadlines begin to pile up. Add an on-site gym and laundry facilities, and everyday life becomes noticeably more convenient.
Living close to university is always useful, but having shops, transport and local cafés nearby often makes just as much difference over the course of an academic year.

York is one of those cities that's easy to get comfortable in. Much of the centre can be explored on foot, while reliable buses and cycling routes make travelling around straightforward.
From Raffles Hall, students can reach both universities without lengthy commutes, while James Street provides quick access to supermarkets, cafés and other everyday essentials. York Railway Station also makes travelling beyond the city simple, whether you're heading home during holidays or planning a weekend away.
The surrounding area has everything students regularly need. Lidl is only a short walk away for grocery shopping, while nearby cafés provide a welcome change of scenery when you don't feel like studying in your room. Rowntree Park offers green space whenever you want a break from busy university schedules, and Foss Island Retail Park covers everything from household shopping to everyday essentials.
Living here also means you're never far from York's historic city centre, where independent shops, restaurants and cultural attractions become part of everyday student life rather than places you only visit occasionally.
Every student approaches university differently, but certain things tend to appear on almost everyone's accommodation checklist. Students choose Raffles Hall because it offers:

Not everyone secures accommodation months before arriving at university. Plenty of students end up searching after receiving their exam results, changing universities or accepting a place through Clearing. When that happens, having a straightforward choice can make the whole process much less stressful.
Raffles Hall offers that flexibility. If you enjoy living with other students, the en-suite rooms give you a shared kitchen while still keeping your own private bathroom. If having your own space matters more, the studios let you live independently without sacrificing access to the building's communal facilities.
Whatever option you choose, booking early is always worthwhile. York remains one of the UK's most popular student cities, and accommodation close to the universities is often in high demand as the academic year approaches.
One of the nicest things about living in York is that the city rarely feels difficult to navigate. Many places are within walking or cycling distance, and public transport fills in the gaps whenever you need it.

It's a good place to consider if you are looking for quiet and peaceful environment. Rooms are new, spacious, enough shelves for stuff. The common kitchen is quite spacious with 2 fridges, hobs and ovens, dining table, sofas and a tv. Overall, the vibe is amazing. There are common areas if you wanna hangout with friends or study areas if you need your own space.
Hii
Amazing accommodation in the heart of York with good proximity to shops and other attractions. Polite and helpful staff working to make sure you have a safe residency. Also has great amenities and an excellent gym space and lounge areas. Would definitely recommend to students of any age thinking of living in York.

Perfect location, very friendly staff and has all facilities like pool, gym and conema room. Rooms are decent sized and location is very good. Nearby to shops, uni, and town with bus stops at 2 minute walk

Facilities lovely and staff really kind. Only thing I would keep note of if wanting to live here is its very expensive, and with these expenses, you aren't provided basic accommodation amendments such as a microwave, kettle, or hoover. My room didn't even have a toilet brush, which seems quite extreme considering the amount you're going to be paying. Heating is eco, which is great, but means rooms are constantly freezing, so when living, definitely need plenty of blankets/ warm clothing!

Best experience living here, everything is brand new well maintained. The staff is really nice and responsive. The longue area is the best place to chill and ofcourse the pool and cinema rooms cant be ignored. Go for it guys
