I moved in here 3 weeks ago and was severely disappointed by the state of this accommodation. I must note that the receptionists are very kind and accommodating, the friendliest people ever, but the management of this place is a nightmare. When I moved in here I was greeted with dusty floors, cupboards, bed, drawers, a smelly en-suite bathroom, a smelly fridge, an extremely dirty oven, a worn down hob, and some friendly neighbourhood spiders. Then, in the first week, the fire alarm went off 3 consecutive times. It all turned out to be nothing. The first time, a hair dryer set it off. The other times were similar situations. I am paying an expensive fee for this accommodation and from my experience so far, this place is NOT AT ALL worth the money. There are other accommodations offering the same or better deals with better facilities. I have some pictures of the things I mentioned but not all because I have cleaned this room. I sincerely hope anyone who makes the decision to stay in Market House are aware and prepared.

An amazing place to stay! Extremely friendly and accommodating staff who make you feel welcome from start to finish and genuinely looking to enhance your stay. Would definitely recommend for someone looking to stay in city centre. Very homely and good size rooms as well as great social spaces. Would recommend for any student studying in or around Newcastle.

Nice accommodation and very central. However, be warned that many of the rooms do not have opening windows and this is not stated before you arrive. This is real issue as only air you get is recycled through the vents and often smells as it has been pumped through several rooms. The pump in the ceiling is also very loud at night so please be aware of this. One of main disappointments with Fresh Student Living (the manager of this accomodation) has decided to not waive the last rent installment during the time of Covid-19. I feel disappointed with the company and feel this shows the true ethics which seem to be profit over wellbeing.

Almost perfect! I truly cannot fault the staff at market house as they do an amazing job. Shaina and Lucy are so genuinely considerate of all students here. • Maintenance is completed so quickly that often I do not even realise they were here. • During the October 2020 with Coronavirus cases resurfacing, the staff and security at Market house took it upon themselves to receive all deliveries, take out bins and help with other jobs of flats having to self-isolate. • Everything is also regularly sanitised. • Naturally, the building is also in the city centre, meaning that it’s so close to anything and everything Newcastle has to offer. • Rooms are comfortable, can store a lot and have excellent en-suites. The only downsides so far have been the building itself and being locked out. • It’s a refurbished older building and with it being on a main road not all windows open, meaning that rooms can get stuffy and hot. The silver plus and higher flats however do have them, which essentially means if you’re able to pay more it’s far less of a hassle. • Moreover, the fire alarm system seems to be rather sensitive, or possibly not fully functioning, as there have been times that the alarm has tripped without anyone actually doing anything. On one occasion, the alarm went off for one half of the building only and the fire fighters arrived without everyone having evacuated. • Lastly, I don’t believe there is overnight security present in the building each night (possibly due to covid). This means that if students lock themselves out of their rooms or flats accidentally without losing their key, they will have to ring an ‘emergency’ phone line and have a security agency send people over to let you back in. This can apparently take between 20 to 60 minutes and can cost you upwards of £10 if it’s happens more than once or twice. Overall though I’ve really enjoyed my stay so far. Given the necessity of online classes, reduced socialising and isolation, there are times when you have to stay in you room for days. When this has happened to me in market house I’ve barely noticed the time pass, which I personally think is really something!

I love living at Market House! I have been to see lots of halls around Newcastle and this is by far the best. It doesn't feel like a university halls at all. Each flat is so well furnished and decorated that it feels like a proper home. It has a brilliant location right on the high street, close to the supermarkets, the club strip and both Northumbria and Newcastle universities. Both me and my boyfriend have decided to live here for our second year as well and are splitting the rent of a gold plus studio next year. They do the rent by the room, not by the occupancy which could save us up to £60 a week on rent. The entire site is impeccably maintained by the wonderful and friendly team of cleaners (who can do a flat cleaning service if you want them to) and the always cheerful maintenance man Ken. All the staff in the office are wonderful too and really helpful. I often come down to the office for a chat and a cup of tea. The staff work really hard to create social events for the whole house and make everyone feel really welcome. If you have ideas for events the staff love to hear them. This year alone they have made a book club with book swap days and dumpling parties with authentic steamed dumplings for Chinese new year and a pres party with a DJ and discounted entry wristbands to local clubs and movie nights with popcorn in the social space. They were so helpful in helping me to settle in at the start of the year. The only reason I haven't given five stars is that there are a few fire alarm issues. However, 85% of the time this is down to tenants setting the alarm off themselves. For example, putting garlic bread in the oven and then falling asleep at 2 am... or smoking in their flat... Despite this, I would still choose to stay here next year. I have friends from flats all over the building so it's incredibly social and we often visit each other's flats for dinner or just to hang out. Its a really lovely mix of people. The social space is great if you want to book it out for the evening for a private party. It is split so half of the room has sofas, a TV, an Xbox, a pool table and a well-stocked vending machine ( which takes card and contact-less as well, super helpful for when you're studying in the quiet space) and bookcases and board games. Then the other half of the room is a study space with a large table and smaller study booths around the outside that have plug sockets so you can plug in a laptop. During exam time I used this space instead of the University library so that I could study in my comfy clothes. I really love living here and I would really recommend it to anyone looking for a real home and not just a uni halls.
