Imperial College London began in 1907 and specialises in science, technology, engineering, medicine and business. More than 23,000 people study at the university, and Imperial currently ranks second in the world and first in Europe in the QS World University Rankings 2027.
South Kensington remains the main academic campus. Engineering, Natural Sciences, the Business School and many central services use buildings around Exhibition Road, Queen’s Lawn and Prince’s Gardens. The Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park all fall within the same district.
Imperial now has nine campuses in London and the South East. White City contains facilities for chemistry, biomedical engineering, public health and innovation. Medicine uses several teaching hospitals, including St Mary’s in Paddington, Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the Royal Brompton.
This structure changes the search for Imperial College London student accommodation. A room near South Kensington may suit an engineering degree and create a poor route to daily research work in White City. A Paddington residence can help a medical timetable and add extra travel for classes based in Hammersmith.
First-year undergraduates who firmly accept an Imperial offer can receive a place in university accommodation when they meet the eligibility rules and apply by the published deadline. The guarantee covers a bed space, but it does not guarantee a particular hall, room type or price.
Postgraduates rely more heavily on private housing, GradPad residences and any limited university vacancies. They need to check eligibility carefully because several buildings accept only postgraduate or mature residents.
