Frenchay Campus
Frenchay offers the most direct arrangement for students who attend the main campus every day.
Student Village, Wallscourt Park, Purdown View and the new Kingfisher Court place lectures, the library and the Students’ Union within a few minutes on foot. On-campus residents also gain access to shops, cafés, outdoor areas and university support without leaving Frenchay.
The university uses 42-week contracts for most Frenchay rooms. Those agreements include the Christmas and Easter breaks, so residents keep access to their bedrooms during both holidays.
The strongest university of the West of England Frenchay campus student accommodation in Bristol choice depends on the room format. Wallscourt Park offers the widest variety, Student Village focuses on six-person en-suite flats, and Purdown View includes shared bathrooms, en-suites and studios.
Frenchay works best for a student who values short academic journeys. City-centre work, nightlife and cultural events still require a bus or bicycle trip.
Cheswick Village
Cheswick Village borders the eastern side of Frenchay and contains modern flats, houses and local shops.
Many addresses keep the campus within a 10- to 25-minute walk. The route avoids the city centre and gives residents more flexibility than a home that requires the Metrobus every morning.
Private supply changes throughout the year, and many tenancies exclude energy and internet. Check the complete monthly payment before comparing a Cheswick room with a university hall.
The neighbourhood becomes quiet during the evening. That may help someone with early laboratories or long placement days, though it offers fewer cafés and venues than Gloucester Road or central Bristol.
Filton and Brabazon
Filton lies west of Frenchay, close to Filton Abbey Wood station and Bristol’s aerospace district.
The Propeller Quarter opens for the 2026–27 academic year at Brabazon. Current provider information advertises en-suite rooms from £180 per week and studios from £290, with 40-, 44- and 51-week tenancies.
The property gives residents gyms, study rooms, social areas and outdoor space. Its northern location avoids central Bristol rent while retaining access to Frenchay through local bus routes and cycling connections.
The route depends on the exact Brabazon address. Test the full journey to the campus entrance instead of relying on a general Filton label.
Fishponds
Fishponds provides the most practical private housing district for Glenside students and a workable option for Frenchay.
Fishponds Road has supermarkets, cafés, takeaways, restaurants and everyday services. Glenside occupies Blackberry Hill nearby, while buses connect the area with Frenchay and central Bristol.
Traditional terraced houses form much of the private market. A group can often secure more living space than a cluster flat, although bills and property upkeep demand more organisation.
Health students should check placement travel alongside the campus walk. Hospital placements may change the best side of Fishponds to live in.
Glenside and Blackberry Hill
Glenside accommodation occupies the healthcare campus itself. The Hollies stands opposite it.
A student attending nursing, midwifery or allied health classes can leave home and reach teaching rooms in minutes. Frenchay takes about 30 minutes on foot or a shorter bus trip.
Glenside provides the lowest university-managed room prices. Every room uses a shared bathroom, while flat sizes range from three to seven residents. The Hollies includes shared-bathroom rooms, six en-suites and two studios.
The area offers green space and easy access to Snuff Mills and Oldbury Court. Fishponds Road provides the nearest concentration of shops and restaurants.
Horfield and Gloucester Road
Horfield and Gloucester Road offer a lively residential alternative between north Bristol and the city centre.
Gloucester Road has independent shops, cafés, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants. Homes around Horfield and Bishopston often attract second- and third-year groups who want a conventional house.
Frenchay requires a bus or bicycle journey. Streets near Filton Avenue provide a more direct northern route than homes closer to central Bishopston.
A larger house may lower the rent per person, but older properties can carry higher winter energy costs. Check the Energy Performance Certificate, boiler, window condition and previous bills.
Stapleton
Stapleton lies between Frenchay, Glenside and Eastville.
The location may help a household whose members attend both northern campuses. Frome Valley paths also support cycling and walking towards Frenchay and Fishponds.
Private rooms and complete houses make up most of the local stock. Purpose-built residences appear less frequently than they do in central Bristol.
The final street matters. Homes near Bell Hill give different campus routes from addresses nearer the M32 or Eastville.
Stoke Gifford and Bristol Parkway
Stoke Gifford lies north of Frenchay beside Bristol Parkway station.
The station provides intercity rail services and local connections, while buses cover the university and surrounding neighbourhoods. Frenchay lies less than a mile from Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood according to UWE’s travel guidance.
This area can help students who travel home frequently or commute to placements outside Bristol.
A station-side flat may cost more than a room in Fishponds or Filton. Its value depends on how often the resident uses rail travel.
Stokes Croft and St Paul’s
Stokes Croft and St Paul’s place Bristol’s independent venues, street art and central shops near home.
City Campus students gain convenient access to Arnolfini, Watershed and Spike Island. Bower Ashton still requires a bus or bicycle journey, while Frenchay students rely on services heading north.
Canvas Bristol currently lists en-suite rooms from £246 per week, with 44- and 51-week options. Dean Street Works retains an entry rate of £225 on its page, although the property currently marks all rooms unavailable.
The neighbourhood offers more evening activity than Frenchay or Glenside. Bedrooms facing major roads may receive traffic and venue noise.
Old Market and Broadmead
Old Market and Broadmead place Cabot Circus, Castle Park, supermarkets and bus routes near the property.
UWE partner buildings include Marketgate and Phoenix Court. Private listings also include The Quarter House, The Port on the Square and several newer developments.
Marketgate starts at £210.02 per week, while Phoenix Court charges £216.13 to £221.51 through the university allocation. Both use city-centre provider contracts.
Frenchay students need to include a daily Metrobus journey. Creative students may gain better access to City Campus sites and central Bristol facilities.
Bristol City Centre and Harbourside
Central Bristol works best for City Campus students, postgraduates and anyone who places city access above a short Frenchay commute.
Nelson and Drake House charges £170.50 to £181.87 per week through UWE’s accommodation allocation. Cherry Court begins at £177.95, while Blenheim Court starts at £181.34.
Culver House currently retains a £145 weekly listing for a shared-bathroom room under a 51-week tenancy, but the property marks the category as sold out.
Central accommodation keeps shopping, employment and nightlife near home. The resident pays for that convenience through a longer Frenchay journey and regular transport costs.
Bower Ashton and South Bristol
Bower Ashton forms the main teaching base for many creative courses.
Bedminster, Southville and Ashton Gate can shorten the route to the campus. Central Bristol and the Harbourside also remain accessible from these neighbourhoods.
Frenchay students gain little from a south Bristol address because the route crosses much of the city. Creative students should check how many classes take place at Bower Ashton compared with Arnolfini, Spike Island and Watershed.
Private houses dominate the area. Managed halls appear more often around the city centre than directly beside Bower Ashton.
