Life at Identity School of Acting doesn't follow the pattern of a traditional university. Most students attend evening or weekend sessions while balancing work, auditions or other commitments. As a result, much of the experience happens beyond the classroom, with London's theatre, television and film industries becoming part of everyday student life.
Unlike larger universities, IDSA does not operate a conventional students' union or campus-based social programme. Instead, students build connections through workshops, rehearsals, showcase events and the school's links with the Identity Agency Group. Training regularly brings together actors from different backgrounds, creating opportunities to collaborate both during and outside classes.
Creative Community
London itself becomes a learning environment extension. Students take in theatre shows, movies, acting classes and networking events throughout the year. Brixton, Hackney and Central London each give you access to diverse creative groups, depending on where your lessons are hosted.
Brixton is famous for its live music venues, small cafés, street markets and multicultural cuisine scene. There are lots of venues for students who study there to gather between lessons or to relax after classes.
If you spend more time in Central London, you will be close to the West End, the National Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe and many fringe theatres. Live performance is a regular component of development as an actor, thus these venues are valuable for more than just enjoyment.
Shopping and Everyday Essentials
Daily shopping is straightforward across London's transport network. Brixton Market remains popular for fresh produce and international food, while larger supermarkets, convenience stores and retail centres are available throughout the surrounding neighbourhoods. Students living closer to Kings Cross, Waterloo or Shoreditch also have easy access to supermarkets, pharmacies and late-opening convenience stores.
Health and Wellbeing
Students relocating to London should register with a local NHS GP soon after moving in. Most private student accommodation also provides secure entry systems, on-site staff and wellbeing support, giving residents additional peace of mind.
Living in London
One good thing about studying at IDSA is going to different regions of London. Whether you're auditioning in Soho, rehearsing in Brixton or catching up with classmates after workshops in Shoreditch, the city's transport network makes it rather easy to get from A to B. It is generally less useful to live closest to the teaching venue than to choose lodgings with good Underground or train links.
