What Is Included in the Rent at Crown Place Portsmouth?

One of the most practical aspects of living at Crown Place Portsmouth is that rent is all-inclusive. You pay a single monthly or termly amount that covers your utilities and internet, so there are no surprise bills and no need to set up accounts with energy or broadband providers. I had a very positive experience staying here and would recommend it to anyone looking for student accommodation. The staff were always friendly and willing to help you with any problems. There was always a range of social events organised each month, so there is something for everyone and maintenance requests were dealt with promptly. The lifts were sometimes out of order but this is to be expected in a building where they are used heavily. Overall, it was a great place to live as a university student.

I have only been living here for two weeks, and the elevator has been out of service throughout this period. Living on the 9th floor has forced me to climb the stairs every day, causing me physical pain and significant inconvenience. I can only imagine how much worse this is for residents on the 22nd floor. In addition, the building is not being properly maintained. The common areas are dirty and full of rubbish, which creates an unpleasant and unacceptable living environment. If these issues are not resolved within the next two days, I will proceed through the appropriate legal channels and seek compensation for the physical and emotional harm caused by this ongoing negligence. I will also document all evidence of the damages and the condition of the property. Immediate action is required.

Living here for the past three years has honestly been one of the most memorable parts of my university experience. From the moment I moved in, the staff made me feel welcome and supported. They’re genuinely kind, approachable, and always willing to help whether it’s something small or a bigger issue, you never feel like you’re dealing with things alone. What really made this place special for me, though, is the community. I’ve met so many amazing people here who started off as neighbours and quickly became close friends. Some of my best university memories were made in this accommodation included late-night chats, spontaneous plans, shared meals, and just the everyday moments that ended up meaning the most. Over time, it stopped feeling like just a place to stay and started to feel like a second home. It’s the kind of environment where you can grow, feel comfortable, and create lasting connections. I would definitely recommend this accommodation to future students. If you’re looking for somewhere that’s not only safe and well-managed but also full of positive energy and opportunities to meet people, this is a great choice.

I don’t recommend this student hall. I am currently living here, and this is my second year. The first and biggest problem is the lifts they’re always breaking down. Sometimes hv to wait in line for almost an hour. There are two lifts in this building, but usually only one is working, which means one lift has to serve all 22 floors. It takes up to a month when the lift stuff happens. if there was an emergency and the lift was not working it would be very stressful and inconvenient. The second issue is that the walls are not soundproof at all. You can hear almost everything your roommates say or do, which can be very uncomfortable. My roommate often talks on the phone with the speaker on at 3 or 4 AM, and I have had so many sleepless nights because of it. This issue has not been properly resolved. Another problem is the kitchen. The cooker hood doesnt work properly, so cooking smells and smoke can become a problem, which may annoy your roommates. Even if you report these issues to the staff, they may fix them temporarily, but the same problems keep happening. Also the heater issue. I lived this year winter without heater. Considering the expensive rent, I honestly dont think it is worth the money. Think very carefully before deciding to live here.

Where do i even start…. I’ve been in Crown Place since September and there’s not one good thing i can say about this place. It’s genuinely the worse place i’ve ever stayed. I literally cry like every other week because i regret ever paying the atrocious price of living here. Let’s get started on all the reasons why you SHOULD NOT stay in Crown 1. If you are getting a two-dio the walls are extremely thin you are going to hear EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING that is going on in the kitchen. You will SMELL everything they are cooking too. So if you are trying to get a good nights rest or in a meeting in your room, forget it if they are in the kitchen. Soundproofing and ventilation is at a -1 on the scale so be prepared for that. 2. The lifts are constantly out of order. It takes ages for them to fix so if you live on floor 10+ and you don’t want to/ can’t walk, be prepared to wait ages for a lift. 3. You share a mailbox with like 5 different people so if they steal your stuff good luck! I also STRONGLY advise you share a kitchen with someone you KNOW or there will most likely be problems. But yes overall if your looking for a good nights rest or to come back from a lecture and go straight to your room do not come here. Thank you!

FAQs

All utilities – electric, gas and water – are included in the rent on a ‘fair usage allowance’ with hot water available 24-hours per day. Heaters are controlled individually by the tenants in their rooms. High-speed internet and Wi-Fi throughout the building, including bedrooms and ethernet cable connection in bedrooms Council Tax – students are exempt from paying council tax, however some councils may charge tenants out of term time, therefore the tenant is liable for any council tax charges that may be incurred. Contents insurance is provided through Endsleigh insurance to cover your belongings for up to £10,000.

There are three payment options available at Collegiate. Collegiate gives you the flexibility to pay your rent in either one full payment or four instalments. To pay in instalments, you’ll need to provide proof of a UK-based guarantor, such as a family member or friend. If you don’t have a UK-based guarantor but would still like to pay in four instalments, this is possible with a 5% upfront fee applied to your total accommodation fees. Collegiate provides excellent flexibility with our 4-instalment payment plan, designed specifically for students who use student loans and/or grants to pay their rent. We require 4 weeks’ rent to be paid before the tenancy start date as the first instalment, with a larger second instalment due at the end of September, aligning with the timing of most UK student loan and grant payments. This approach helps students manage their finances more effectively at the start of the academic term.
