The University of Portsmouth is one of the top 30 universities in the UK offering a great variety of multi-disciplinary courses. It is termed as a contemporary educational institution located on the south coast of England with over 24,000 students enrolled. Thousands of internal students flock to this place for carving a bright career for themselves. One of the key reasons is the easy availability of student housing options that do not burn a hole in their pockets! The University provides an eclectic range of courses in geology, earth, and environmental sciences, pharmacy and sport science, psychology, etc. Right from providing pre-sessional English language courses to the International students to offering accommodation on campus, it takes care of its students. Day Trips:

• Isle of Wight: Very easy to reach via Hovercraft (from Southsea, approx. 10 mins) or Wightlink ferry (from Portsmouth Harbour). Great for beaches, coastal walks, and attractions like Osborne House.
• New Forest National Park: Accessible by car or train (via Southampton), offering beautiful woodlands, heathlands, wild ponies, and numerous walking/cycling trails.
• Chichester / Winchester / Southampton: Nearby historic cities reachable by train.

Campus Location: The University of Portsmouth has a city campus, meaning its buildings are integrated within the central area of Portsmouth, close to the Guildhall, main shopping areas, and train station. It's a compact and fairly flat city centre, making getting around relatively easy.

Walking & Cycling: Due to the central campus and the proximity of popular student housing areas like Southsea, walking and cycling are very common ways for students to get to lectures and around the city. The university provides cycle parking facilities.

Bus: Local bus services are primarily run by First Bus and Stagecoach. Numerous routes connect the city centre, the university area (stops around the Guildhall, Cambridge Road, Winston Churchill Avenue), Southsea, Fratton, and other suburbs.

• University Buses (U1/U2): During term time, the university operates specific bus services (U1 circular route, U2 to Langstone sports campus) primarily for students and staff (requires showing University ID). Check the university website for current routes and timetables.
• Student Discounts: Discounted student bus passes (weekly, monthly, termly, academic year) are available from First Bus and Stagecoach. Check their websites or apps for current student offers and eligibility requirements (often requires a valid student ID or university email). Train:

• Portsmouth & Southsea Station is the main station serving the city centre and is located very conveniently, just a 5-10 minute walk from the heart of the university campus.
• Portsmouth Harbour Station is slightly further but within walking distance (approx. 15-20 mins) or a short bus ride; it connects directly with ferry and hovercraft terminals.
• Direct train services (operated by South Western Railway, Southern, GWR) connect Portsmouth to London Waterloo, London Victoria, Brighton, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, and other destinations. A 16-25 Railcard offers significant discounts on fares.

Ferry/Hovercraft: Portsmouth is a major port. Wightlink and Hovertravel provide frequent services to the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth Harbour and Southsea respectively. Brittany Ferries operates services to France and Spain from the International Port.

Car: Bringing a car is generally not recommended for students living and studying in Portsmouth. Campus parking is extremely limited and requires permits under strict criteria (e.g., Blue Badge holders, exceptional circumstances). Most student housing areas (like Southsea and Fratton) require residents' parking permits from the council, which can be difficult to obtain or costly. Park & Ride services are available on the outskirts of the city.
