Review and ratings

If I could, I would give this place a minus rating — 1 star feels incredibly generous. Want depression? You'll get it if you stay here. As the other reviews have mentioned, there is complete neglect towards the students' wellbeing. But don't worry — if you miss your rent by one day, all of a sudden everyone who was ignoring your emails will start replying to you again. Smoking — The absolute basics that an accommodation should be able to get right is ensuring the health and safety of its residents. They don't give a toss about it. Make a complaint and you'll hear back in... you won't. Students living here smoked constantly in communal areas and for myself who is asthmatic this was A SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUE that could have resulted in something much more serious. Oh and also the very same group of people who were smoking in communal areas will now be ambassadors of this accommodation for the academic year 25/26 so it won't get any better! The student ambassador — I wonder what he gets paid for... doing nothing. Because every complaint we have, he just gives you an automated response like AI: "I'll get in touch with management and see what they say." Meanwhile, management is non-existent, and when you ask to speak to someone of higher authority, all of a sudden you're not allowed their number or contact information. But don't worry if you miss your rent payment by one day they'll be in touch with you immediately and somehow everyone who was ignoring you for the past 2 months is now so desperately eager to speak with you. Strange isn't it? Furthermore, this accommodation is on a hill about a 15–20 minute walk away from the university, so you'll be drenched in rain by the time you get to your class. The accommodation is on a steep hill — which they don't mention. THERE IS A REASON WHY THIS ACCOMMODATION IS CHEAP. PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THE TRAP! Also, this accommodation is not very safe, to be honest. Firstly, there is a six-digit pin for a massive door at the front. If you know that, then ANYONE can enter the building. The floors are not divided by key cards or locks or anything. So if a stranger off the street knows the six-digit pin, they can walk into any flat or kitchen uninterrupted. Want to go from flat 1 to flat 3? You can simply walk in. Anyone can go into any common room and make loud noise throughout the night. I'd have late nights where people wouldn't be quiet, and I would end up going to sleep at 2–3 a.m. Once again, I tried to complain about this, but the ambassador would just ignore my calls and messages, and the higher authority — once again — was impossible to reach. So you're completely ignored. ZERO SUPPORT NETWORKS. Other issues such as cockroaches and silverfish just staying in the kitchen — and we were constantly being ignored when making complaints. All we got was, "An exterminator will be coming," but that was definitely a lie, because this place couldn't afford a new hoover for 2 months — so an exterminator? YEAH, well out of their budget. This exterminator must have been playing Ghostbusters, because according to the accommodation, he/she had already visited — but it seems like he/she must have come with a food plate and grabbed some snacks, because the insects just seemed to be appearing more and more by the week, despite the best efforts of the 5 of us who shared the kitchen to keep it clean. So to conclude if you like living in unhygienic conditions with smokers who won't be stopped and your health and safety is not a priority at all., and you want an accommodation team who will ignore you then look no further-The old chapel student accommodation is for you. But if you care about your health, your physical and mental wellbeing ,your voice being heard and your money being spent wisely then I hope you'll do what's best for you and AVOID THIS ACCOMODATION AT ALL COSTS. There are so many other great accommodations with strong student support networks better facilities like a gym, games room and they are the same price as this so please look into other accomodations such as the IQ, Saw mill ETC.

WARNING: DO NOT LIVE HERE — DISGUSTING CONDITIONS, ZERO SUPPORT, TOTAL NEGLECT I wouldn’t wish this place on anyone. This is not just a bad experience — it’s been a living nightmare. I’ve kept quiet for too long, tried to go through the “proper channels” with emails, calls, and support tickets — all ignored. No one cares. No one helps. They take your money and leave you to suffer. The current issue: cockroaches. Everywhere. Huge ones, crawling in and out of the walls in the kitchen, nesting in broken plasterboards, with babies running across the surfaces. The kitchen itself is falling apart — cupboards hanging off, nothing ever fixed. You can hear them in the walls at night. There’s a leak above my bathroom that’s caused damp and mold. I reported it TWO MONTHS AGO. Still nothing. There are ants infesting every single room. We’ve complained over and over again. Not a single visit to sort it. I’ve ended up seriously ill and in hospital because they allow people to smoke inside the building — completely ignored my complaints. Health and safety? They don’t care. The student ambassador is useless — not their fault, but they’ve been given no tools or authority to help. They’re just a face to pretend they care. Here’s what they DO respond to: rent payments. That’s it. You’ll get reminders, threats, demands — but when it comes to your health, your wellbeing, basic hygiene, or repairs, you are completely abandoned. You will feel isolated, stressed, and sick, both mentally and physically. You are treated like a paycheck, not a person. To anyone reading this: DO NOT LIVE HERE. RUN. It’s filthy, broken, unsafe, and you will be ignored. There are better places, even if it costs a little more — your mental and physical health is worth it. I’m taking this higher. This is only the start

Lived here since September 2022. When I arrived my room was dirty, it definitely had not been cleaned before I moved in (I have photos to prove this). The first 2 months of living here I had no bathroom light. During this time my shower was also leaking and flooding my bathroom so in the night it was pitch black and wet. For 2 weeks an alarm from a smoke detector went off as it was faulty and I reported this MANY times and was told they couldn’t do anything as someone had to fix it, so I had to listen to an alarm go off all day and night for 2 weeks. My room gets buzzing/vibrating all night long (I think it is underneath the boiler room) me and the person living next door to me have to listen to it every night. Another person living next door to me shower had broken OVER a MONTH a go so they have to use my shower otherwise they have no way to clean themselves. The dryers in the dryer room have been broken over 2 months, so you’ll have to figure out another way to dry your clothes. If something is broken you’ll be waiting weeks/if not months for it to be fixed. Nothing is fixed in a timely manner. We had a big issue with heating through winter and it didn’t work, this was not fixed quickly at all it was months before some of us got heating. When I first moved in my mattress was so thin and worn they had put a piece of foam over it. I had to report this as it was mouldy and smelled vile. I was then instructed to remove it myself. However, we have new mattresses now, not that they are much better they are plastic and not that comfy. This has been one of the worst living experiences I’ve had, I do not recommend staying here.

I have lived at the Chapel for over a year now and I love being here. The atmosphere is so conducive for student life and everyone living here is absolutely amazing. I recommend this place for every student 😊....I couldn't have lived anywhere else, thanks to Cloud Students Home xx

Duty kitchen, duty fridge and not working, how can you store food in the fridge that is not working, really really bad environment for young students.
