Base, glasgow

Base is a very convenient option for those who don’t know Glasgow well. It is close to shops and the bus station, and only a 10 minute walk to Queens St station. This is the reason I chose to stay here, during my Masters year. It is a safe building, clean and the roof terraces are a fab outside space. They also provide rent bursaries for the RCS students living in the building. I wouldn’t recommend living here if you value your mental health, finding a work/life balance, and your ability to switch off at the end of the day. Noise complaints amount to nothing, and there are no consequences for the students who regularly disturb and disrupt the peace. In your contract, it states they must give you 24 hours notice before entering your room: with internal maintenance (Matt), this does not happen. He will come in, whether you’re there or not, and move things around/not replacing anything broken or used by him. He does not take kindly to requests asking him to come back later in the day. I would not say that privacy or personal preferences are taken into consideration at all. The current security guard is not kind. For example, he stood in my doorway yelling at me, for a noise complaint I had at 11pm at night. Both guards I have experienced did not know answers to any questions, or any building procedures. Both phone numbers you are given access to were also not regularly picked up. On multiple occasions, reception staff were unwilling to extend grace and compassion, declaring that ‘this is the way it’s done’, even when they were new to the job and didn’t know what was done. One month, they took rent twice from my account, and would not reimburse me for bank charges I then faced. I also had a fridge break, and I had a week’s worth of food they would not reimburse me for. I will say, 2 of the rudest members of the staffing team have now left. If you have read to the end of this, be aware they will comment on this review and try to make it look like they’re in the right. Sadly, you might have to live here and experience it for yourself to truly know what happens here. I am more than happy to have my name attached to these comments, as I would say these to anybody in conversation. If you are an undergrad, it might be more your speed. But as a postgraduate student, I would not recommend.

Nice central location, usually good security.

Dissatisfied with the management ppl just cut out the voice of the truth,and helping someone who did wrong things keep making noises at the middle of night intentionally. Where is the fairness?How come the warning letters not to punish who do wrong and warning someone who complain the issues?

Daughter went back for a 2nd year. We as parents are happy with service (though daughter did not get an email for a tracked [irreplaceable] parcel we sent and she had to chase it - it was there thankfully).
