The answer depends on what you expect from your accommodation.
If being able to walk to the university matters, Ayton House has a clear advantage. The main campus is less than a mile away, making the journey to lectures, study sessions and university events easy enough to manage on foot. Students who don't want to spend extra time or money commuting often look for accommodation in this part of St Andrews.
Room choice is another reason the property appeals to different students. Some prefer the independence of a studio, while others would rather share an apartment or a studio to keep costs lower and enjoy a more social living environment. Having those options under one roof makes it easier to choose something that matches both your budget and your lifestyle.
Practicality also plays a part. Utility bills are included in the weekly rent, and facilities such as the gym, laundry room, bike storage, study areas and communal spaces are already available on-site. That means there's less to organise after moving in and more time to settle into university life.
If you've been reading about Ayton House St Andrews, you'll probably be weighing up the same factors as most students: location, room choice, running costs and day-to-day convenience. The fire alarm system here is broken and it’s a serious problem. Within just one week of moving in, we’ve already had multiple fire alarm alerts telling everyone to evacuate immediately. The school term has only just started, and this is already taking a toll on students’ mental health. Frequent false alarms are not only disruptive but also dangerous in the long term. If there’s ever a real fire, students may ignore the alarms because they’ve gotten used to constant false alerts. This creates bad habits and puts everyone’s safety at risk. This needs to be fixed urgently. It’s unacceptable for a student accommodation to neglect something as critical as fire safety.

The staff and facilities at Ayton House are the best! They always have a smile on their face and are eager to help. The building itself is fantastic as well with great flat set ups and beautiful views of the ocean or surrounding landscape. I have loved living here and recommend it to all!

Life at Ayton House is a dream. The accommodation is spacious, in a prime location, and very modern! More than that, the staff at Ayton House are PHENOMENAL. They go above and beyond to make sure daily life is a joy to experience (whether that is a kind greeting when you walk in or helping you track down an Amazon delivery). The staff doesn't make Ayton House feel like a student hall...but a home. I highly recommend this accommodation!

The building is in a great location - Only 5 minutes from market street - the staff are lovely, kind and really engaged with the students. The rooms are modern and of great quality. Is slightly on the more expensive side but for peace of mind its well worth it as I'm remaining in the building for another year of study. Parcels are collected by the reception during the week so you don't have to worry about parcels being returned. Maintenance team is really friendly and fix most issues when you report the issue.

The staff is super helpful, they are truly amazing! You can always call them when something is up or when something needs fixing. You can reach them by phone or just walk to the reception and they will help you as fast as they can. The rooms are very spacious, modern, and include all bills. Definitely a lot of quality for the price! The location is also perfect, five minutes walk from East Sands, 10-15 minutes from town, and about 30 minutes from university buildings. I would definitely recommend living here!
