University life often feels busiest outside the lecture hall. One minute you're rushing to a morning class, the next you're looking for somewhere to grab lunch, meet friends, pick up groceries, or find a quiet corner to study. Living in the city centre can make those everyday tasks much more manageable.
77 Penny Street sits in the middle of Lancaster, placing students close to shops, cafés, transport links, and many of the places they visit throughout the week. Instead of spending extra time travelling across the city, much of daily student life happens within walking distance of the accommodation.

Spend Less Time Travelling Around the City: Lancaster University is well connected by regular bus routes, while the University of Cumbria is close enough for many students to reach on foot.

Stay Connected to the Rest of the UK: Lancaster Railway Station is only a short walk away, making it more comfortable to travel home during holidays or explore other cities at weekends.
Make Everyday Living More Straightforward: Features such as secure bike storage, key fob access, CCTV, and on-site facilities become increasingly useful as the semester gets busier.
The room you return to at the end of the day gradually becomes more than just somewhere to sleep. It turns into a study space during assignment season, a place to relax after lectures, and somewhere to catch up with friends and family between busy weeks at university.
At 77 Penny Street, residents live in shared apartments that balance personal space with the social side of student living.

I've lived in Hello Student accommodation for the past four years (the same room!) and it is a home away from home for sure. Key things I like about this place: - Location: central city location, shopping centre and restaurants on your doorstep. Friendly, safe city. Few minutes walk to the train station, RLI Hospital, the canal, Williamson Park and night life like Dalton Rooms Sugarhouse. - Transport: the bus stop (George St) is right outside my accommodation which has regular buses direct to campus (10 to 15min journey). - Security: secure entrance, CCTV cameras, recently improved office timings to provide 24 hours/7 days a week service - The Office: the current team are honestly wonderful, professional and caring. They receive your postage/letters - you pick up at your convenience. They hold regular little events or offer treats/perks to celebrate occasions e.g. valentines day, pancake day, Christmas, Chinese NY and recently left some thoughtful wellbeing treats in our flat. Any maintenance issues are sorted out swiftly by the care taker who does a brilliant job. The customer service advisors are so lovely, they go the extra mile to support the students and I am so grateful. - My room/flat: I live in a 'standard ensuite' room with a total of 8 rooms in my flat and a shared kitchen with two fridges/freezers and 1 hob. My room looks just like the one in the images on google. Good size, single bed, shower ensuite. The kitchen/living area is really nice, my view is overlooking the city centre, lovely glass windows, TV, sofa area and if I ever have guests over they always walk in and say 'wow!'. - Clean facilities: weekly cleaning schedule and excellent standard of maintenance - Summer holidays: I keep my stuff in my room over summers, which is SO convenient for someone who lives miles away from Lancaster and felt reassured that my stuff will be safe. Useful for people who need longer rent contracts for their courses. - COVID: When first lockdown happened, Hello Student were one of the very few accommodations that refunded students who returned home for their remaining rent. That just shows they put their students above their business in times of need and they offered this kind gesture without us having to ask. This year they had flexible contracts available and reduced contract lengths for those who needed it. Overall, my experience with Hello Student this academic year has been brilliant. Thank you

The staff are friendly and attentive to concerns. When you have an enquiry or an issue they will solve it right away. The common areas are clean and protocols are in place for COVID safety. I quite like that their isolation room is in the ground floor and you don't need to go out to take out the trash. I've tried 2 rooms. One was the quarantine room which is an ensuite room with 8 rooms sharing a common dining, kitchen and living room. The shared space was big. The kitchen has all the crockery and basic kitchen cooking tools one would need. There were 2 big ref and 8 cupboards for each room. There crockery were all new as well as the beddings and towel. The other room I've tried was the gold studio room. I love it as it has its own kitchenette and ensuite bathroom. The beddings were all new too. I had a problem with the heater but they were able to give me a portable heater the next day. The turnaround for the concern was quick. I'm out most of the day and it's good that the receptionist takes your mail and deliveries and emails me when I have to pick something up. Overall, great experience to stay with them.

The only time you will need a UK-based guarantor is if you choose to pay your rent in instalments. Your guarantor will need to be over 25 years old and be living in the United Kingdom to be eligible. If you do not have a UK-based guarantor, you can still choose to pay in instalments by using a guarantor service such as Housing Hand, who can act as a guarantor on your behalf, for a small fee. Once you select the payment option for instalments during your booking process, we will kickstart the ID verification process by asking for your guarantor’s details. They'll then need to provide us with proof of address (less than three months old) and a valid photo ID. They'll also need to provide proof of available funds (for example, three months of payslips and/or a recent bank statement). Once you have your guarantor sorted, you can enjoy the convenience of paying your rent in four instalments. Here is when your payments will be due. First payment: 10 days before check-in (this will need to be paid so that you can move in) Second payment: September Third payment: January Final payment: April.
