😥The ceiling light in my studio is really bad, and there is only a very tiny window and I can’t get any natural light in my room. 😢My experience has been extremely unpleasant. I can't study or do any daily tasks under bright, flickering light. I have to keep the lights off and stay in a pitch-dark room every day. Even during the daytime, with the curtains open and no lights on, the room remains completely dark, just like at night. ⛰️Two good news: The staff members are friendly, the view outside the accommodation building is great! The accommodation is next to the Arthur’s Seat.

DETAILED REVIEW NOTICE! Skip to second paragraph. I stayed with Unite Students for three years in total as a student. During my first two years, management was excellent and the staff were always available to help. For example, in my second year I lived in a flat with a shared kitchen. When my flatmates and I had an issue with our self-made cleaning rota, the staff were quick to support us. Things ran smoothly and the previous manager was approachable and willing to help with anything we needed. However, during my third year (Sept 2024 – July 2025), a new manager took over and I noticed a clear change in how the building was run. There were several occasions when hot water was unavailable, and in some cases residents were not given the required 24-hour notice of repairs. Many residents raised complaints about the lack of communication. When I asked for support in facilitating a flat meeting to sort out a cleaning rota, the new manager declined to help. I also worked as a resident ambassador and enjoyed organising events with fellow students. Unfortunately, working alongside the new manager was very difficult, as she frequently took over responsibilities in a way that made it difficult for me to do my job effectively. In one private meeting, she made a remark that I found highly inappropriate, discriminatory, and offensive toward a particular nationality, to which most students who reside there come from this country. There were additional concerns around professionalism and the handling of certain resident information which I reported internally to the company. I also attempted to escalate concerns to senior management, but my experience was disappointing. On more than one occasion, meetings that had been agreed upon did not take place, and no apology or follow-up was provided. In my view, this came across as unprofessional. If Unite Students wants to maintain its reputation as an open and welcoming place, ensuring that managers are approachable, supportive of residents, and uphold professional standards would be a good start. The location itself is acceptable; close to the gym and main campus, though the surrounding area can sometimes be noisy, especially with people leaving bars. Personally, this did not cause me problems, but it may be an issue for others. Overall, while my first two years were positive, my final year was far less so. Based on my experience, I would currently advise other students to consider alternative accommodation in the area where management is more consistent and supportive. I hope that future management continues to learn from feedback like this, so that residents can have a positive experience and unprofessional behavior is addressed appropriately.

Common questions
There are TVs in many of the communal areas, and some bedrooms include TVs too - you can check what's available at your property on your property page or in your welcome guide. You'll be sent a link to your welcome guide before you arrive. You will need a TV licence for your bedroom if you‚are watching TV live or on-demand, and if you have a TV licence for your bedroom this automatically covers the communal kitchen too. If you just want to watch TV in the communal kitchen, then you and your flatmates can arrange a single TV licence together. Students living in a studio will also need to arrange their own TV licence if you plan to watch TV live or on-demand.
