Considering the location in Finchley, here are some areas that students might find suitable for housing:

Finchley Central:

Proximity to BCOM: Excellent. Living directly in Finchley Central offers a convenient commute, often within walking or a short bus ride.
Amenities: A good range of shops, restaurants, and amenities.
Transport Links: Finchley Central station provides direct Northern Line access to central London. Numerous bus routes serve the area.
Affordability: Generally more affordable than central London, offering a mix of shared houses and some smaller apartments.
Student Atmosphere: A more suburban feel, but there will be a student presence due to BCOM.

North Finchley:

Proximity to BCOM: Reasonable. Located a short bus ride north of Finchley Central.
Amenities: A larger shopping area with more supermarkets and amenities.
Transport Links: Good bus connections to Finchley Central and other parts of North London.
Affordability: Generally similar to or slightly more affordable than Finchley Central.
Student Atmosphere: More of a residential area.

East Finchley:

Proximity to BCOM: Reasonable. Accessible by bus (a slightly longer ride) or a longer walk.
Amenities: A charming area with independent shops, cafes, and a cinema.
Transport Links: East Finchley station is on the Northern Line.
Affordability: Can be slightly more expensive than North or Finchley Central due to its desirable reputation.
Student Atmosphere: More of a residential area.

Woodside Park:

Proximity to BCOM: Reasonable. A bus ride west of Finchley Central.
Amenities: A quieter, more suburban area.
Transport Links: Woodside Park station is on the Northern Line.
Affordability: Generally more affordable.
Student Atmosphere: More of a residential area.

While Finchley is a more suburban area, it offers some local attractions and has good links to wider London:

Within Walking Distance or a Short Bus Ride from BCOM:

Finchley Central: The main hub of Finchley with a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, and local amenities.
Finchley Arts Depot: A local arts centre with a theatre, cinema, and gallery.
Stephens House and Gardens: A beautiful Victorian house and gardens offering a peaceful retreat.
Cherry Tree Wood: A local nature reserve with woodland walks.

A Short Tube or Bus Journey Away (Within 30 minutes):

Hampstead Heath: A large and ancient parkland with stunning views of London, perfect for walking, picnicking, and swimming in the Hampstead Ponds (accessible via Northern Line to Hampstead or Golders Green, then a bus).
Highgate: A charming historic village with beautiful architecture, Highgate Cemetery (a fascinating Victorian cemetery), and independent shops and pubs (accessible via Northern Line to Highgate or Archway, then a bus).
Alexandra Palace: A historic entertainment venue with panoramic views of London, a park, ice rink, and often hosts events and exhibitions (accessible by train from Finchley East or bus).
Muswell Hill: A leafy suburb with a charming town centre, independent shops, and the Everyman Cinema (accessible by bus).

Worth a Day Trip (Easily Accessible by Tube or Train):

Central London: With direct Northern Line links, all the major attractions of central London (museums, galleries, landmarks, theatres) are within a reasonable journey.
Camden Town: Known for its alternative markets and vibrant atmosphere (via Northern Line).
High Barnet: A historic market town at the end of the Northern Line.

Getting to BCOM (Finchley Campus):

By Tube (London Underground): The closest Tube station is Finchley Central (Northern Line). BCOM is approximately a 10-15 minute walk uphill from Finchley Central station.

By Train (National Rail):

Finchley & Frognal Station: Served by London Overground, it's a bit further, around a 20-minute walk.

Mill Hill East Station: Served by the Northern Line (High Barnet branch), also a bit further, requiring a bus connection or a longer walk.

By Bus: Several bus routes serve the area around Netherhall Gardens. Check the Transport for London (TfL) website or a journey planner app (like Citymapper or Google Maps) for the most convenient routes from your accommodation or other parts of London. Look for buses serving Finchley Central and the surrounding residential areas.

By Walking and Cycling: Depending on where you live in Finchley or nearby areas, walking or cycling to the campus might be feasible. Finchley is a relatively leafy suburban area.

Student Travel Within London:

Oyster Card or Contactless Payment:
The most convenient way to pay for public transport in London (Tube, buses, trams, DLR, and most National Rail services).

Travel Zones: Finchley is located in Zone 4. Ensure your Oyster card or ticket covers this zone.

Bus Hopper Fare: Allows unlimited bus and tram journeys within one hour of your first tap-in.

Daily and Weekly Capping: Oyster and contactless payments have daily and weekly caps, limiting how much you spend.

Student Discounts on Travel:

18+ Student Oyster Photocard: If you are 18 or over, enrolled on a full-time course in London, and meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for an 18+ Student Oyster photocard. This gives you 30% off adult-rate Travelcards and Bus & Tram Pass season tickets. Check the TfL website for details and application.

National Rail Discounts: If you use National Rail services frequently for travel within or outside London, a 16-25 Railcard can save you 1/3 on most fares.
