I lived in this accommodation a few years ago. During this time, prices around Scotland had skyrocketed, and I had no choice but to look for a cheaper accommodation outside of Glasgow where my university was located. Therefore, I came across MyPad Paisley that had pricing in my budget range. I remember reading reviews at the time and people saying not to move there, but my mother and I both agreed that most people leaving a review only tend to leave negative experiences rather than a positive ones. Since then, I have tried to leave positive experiences in reviews to help people that came across my predicament as well. I did not visit MyPad Paisley before moving in because the one time that I had tried to go there as an international student, my train, unfortunately, was shut down due to an accident with someone outside of the train. Ultimately, bad luck from the start! So, when I moved in, I had hopeful intentions that were soon squandered. Upon moving in, I found that the staff was very nice! However, the room was mediocre and smelled bad. There was mold growing on my soap dish, and when maintenance came to take care of it, they took the entire soap dish and never replaced it throughout the entire year that I lived there. There was mold growing in multiple places, including the ceiling in the kitchen, my bathroom and regular room. the kitchen itself, as you can see from the pictures, had multiple issues from cabinets falling off their hinges to burnt/broken countertops, and even windows that we were unable to close—causing birds to come into our kitchen frequently. My room itself was so incredibly hot because of where the sun would hit my window that on my first day the heat from the window made me throw up. The window itself (that I could open) had a second window on the outside that the manager had to open for me and she was very helpful and nice helping me with that. Within my first week in this accommodation I had thrown up, fainted, felt dirty and was worried about my safety due to the unhygienic atmosphere. There were multiple holes and chunks missing out of walls. The furniture was absolutely awful! The bed I was sleeping on caused such severe back issues that I am still dealing with the injuries today after three years away. I could feel springs through my back almost the entire time I was on that mattress. Whenever I would raise an issue, it felt like no one was listening or helping me with it at all. My carpet was ripping up and I kept tripping over it, causing hazards and multiple bruises all over my body. The fridge itself was disgusting! Overtime my flatmates refused to clean, even though they were the ones making the mess—which is a whole other thing! The rubbish was difficult to get to because the bin was constantly full. It always smelled in the corridors, and it was very, very hot within each corridor. Some of my flatmates were hospitable, but most of my flatmates made me feel extremely unsafe to be there alone as a woman. They constantly were having parties and speaking about me in a language that I was not familiar with, but my friend who was familiar with it was able to tell me what was being said. I felt very unsafe and unheard. No matter how many times I voiced my safety concerns, it seemed to not be taken seriously. Some of the other girls from my flat had similar experiences to what I had. One day, I went into the kitchen after being away for winter break to find that my section in the fridge was full of people’s stuff that didn’t even live on the same floor as I did. I moved their food to put mine in the fridge and ended up getting in trouble over that despite everything else they had done to me. I found myself (multiple times) having to clean our entire kitchen because the people making the mess refused to clean it, and I didn’t wanna be fined for their lack of boundaries and cleanliness!

Adding to my previous review as I ran out of room. Here is my part 2: Despite the unhygienic atmosphere, worries of my safety, and overall atmosphere of Paisley itself— I did enjoy some of the staff members who were very nice to me, and I really appreciated their kindness as it was not common during this time. Paisley itself is decent enough—not enough food shops, but I did find quite a few few dangerous people lurking around the train station that made me very uncomfortable. You will not be able to save your money by living here, due to the train prices. Honestly, just move to Glasgow if you are looking for student accommodation as their’s are much better. I am aware that halfway through the year, the maintenance worker up and left, but I still do not think it was appropriate that the lift was not fixed for months. In fact, the lift only worked for the first few weeks I had moved in. By the time I had seriously injured my foot and ankle, I had to limp up the several flights of stairs to get to my room. Eventually, I just lived off of ramen and my sink water, because I couldn’t get up and down out of my room. I was incredibly uncomfortable and I gained a lot of weight during my extreme depression during this time. Living at MyPad Paisley was the worst and darkest time of my entire life, and it still haunts me years later. I remember certain staff members were very mean to me, not all, but enough of them were to make me very uncomfortable to even leave my room or leave the flat itself. I would get my medicine delivered through the mail, and I constantly was given rude comments by security or workers there that gave me my parcels—telling me that I ordered parcels too often. I have never felt so judged for having a medical condition that made me need to get my medicine delivered at a consistent rate. The parcel system was consistently an issue. Once, a staff member put a letter under my door and I read it, but upon my confusion—I found that it was addressed to someone else. When I brought it down to the office to explain that I had accidentally opened a letter note addressed to me (as it was put under my door), I was told off for it—AS IF IT WERE MY FAULT that someone put a letter under my door and I picked it up (which was a common experience living here)! On top of all of this, my bathroom flooded and the toilet broke multiple times throughout my stay here. It got to the point that a maintenance worker told me to just not flush the toilet and throw any toilet roll into a bag and dump it. What type of accommodation tells their residents not to use the toilet?? Horrible experience! Mind you, I wasn’t using an obscene amount of toilet roll or anything, the latch on the toilet was broken and never replaced. My advices would be to never move here! Also, they did tell me eventually that you cannot drink the sink water in the rooms, so please only drink water from the tap in the kitchen if you are to move here. One other thing that I remember a few residents bringing up was how the first floor looked very different from the other floors as it was newly renovated. It seemed to strike some jealousy among tenant as some floors were just nicer than others. It was rather disheartening to see the nicer floors when where you were living on a floor that felt unsafe and unclean. These are only some of my experiences living at MyPad Paisley, I don’t recall all of them because it’s been years, but I only left the most important ones on here. Put your safety first and your comfortability up there too!
