About this property

Quay Point

Quay Point Newcastle Student Accommodation

Choosing student accommodation in Newcastle upon tyne is about more than finding a room within your budget. The distance to university, the way you get around the city and the facilities available where you live all become part of your routine once term begins. A property that keeps those everyday details manageable can make settling into a new city much easier.

Quay Point Newcastle is located on Melbourne Street, close to Northumbria University's City Campus and Newcastle city centre. The residence offers en-suite rooms with private bathrooms alongside shared kitchens and living areas, giving students their own space while keeping the social side of student living.

With utility bills included, study and social facilities on site, and several transport connections nearby, Quay Point accommodation Newcastle gives students a practical base from which to manage university life and enjoy the city.

About Quay Point

The place you live becomes part of your everyday university routine. Some days might be spent rushing between lectures and seminars, while others leave more time for studying, meeting friends or simply relaxing after a long day.

Quay Point offers en-suite accommodation for students who want a private bedroom and bathroom without moving into a fully self-contained apartment. Kitchens and living areas are shared with flatmates, giving residents somewhere to cook, eat and spend time together outside their rooms.

Students searching for Quay Point studios Newcastle should note that the property focuses on en-suite rooms rather than studio apartments. The shared-flat arrangement may suit students who want their own private facilities but still enjoy having other people around.

The residence also includes study rooms, a cinema room, common room and additional social areas. An on-site gym, laundry facilities, bike storage and 24-hour concierge service cover some of the practical parts of everyday student life.

Quay Point Newcastle Address & Location

Address: Quay Point, Melbourne Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 2JB, United Kingdom

The Quay Point Newcastle address places the residence close to Northumbria University's City Campus and Newcastle city centre. Students can reach many university facilities, shops and social venues without having to make long journeys across the city.

The surrounding area also has several options for everyday shopping. Sainsbury's Local and Tesco Express are nearby, while Eldon Square, Eldon Garden Shopping Centre and The Gate provide larger shopping and leisure destinations.

Students have access to several places for study as well. City Campus Library, Newcastle City Library and the historic Lit & Phil Library give residents alternatives when they want to work somewhere other than their accommodation.

For some time outdoors, Leazes Park and Exhibition Park are within reach. The central location also puts students close to Newcastle's cafés, restaurants and evening venues, making it easier to balance university work with time away from campus.

Why Choose Quay Point Accommodation Newcastle?

Students usually have different priorities when choosing where to live. Some want to stay close to campus, while others care more about having their bills included, access to study facilities or enough shared space to meet people. Quay Point brings these practical considerations together in one central Newcastle residence.

Some of the reasons students consider Quay Point include:

  • Around 0.52 miles from Northumbria University’s City Campus.

  • Northumbria University’s Coach Lane Campus is also accessible by local transport.

  • En-suite rooms with a private bedroom and bathroom.

  • Electricity, gas, water, Wi-Fi and contents insurance included in the weekly rent.

  • Dedicated study rooms for coursework and revision.

  • Common room, cinema room and social spaces for time away from studies.

  • On-site gym for residents.

  • Laundry facilities and secure bike storage.

  • 24-hour concierge service.

  • CCTV and fire safety systems.

  • Close to Newcastle city centre, supermarkets, libraries, restaurants and transport links.

The accommodation also works well for students who want some privacy without living entirely on their own. Having your own bathroom and bedroom gives you personal space, while the shared kitchen and living areas create opportunities to get to know the people you live with.

The distinction matters when comparing properties. At Quay Point, residents have their own bedroom and bathroom but share the kitchen and living areas with flatmates. Students specifically wanting a private kitchen should therefore consider studio accommodation elsewhere.

The nearby Metro, bus and rail connections are also useful for anyone who needs to travel further across the city.

Students Who Prefer En-suite Living

Quay Point offers en-suite rooms rather than self-contained studios. Each student has a private bedroom and bathroom, while the kitchen and living areas are shared with flatmates.

Students Who Study Outside Their Room

Dedicated study rooms offer residents an additional space to work when they require a calmer environment for assignments, revision or solo study.

Having the ability to travel between your bedroom and a separate study place might be particularly handy during evaluation periods when you are spending more time on assignments.

Students Who Enjoy Shared Facilities

There are a number of locations in Quay Point for people to be away from their rooms.

Quay Point Newcastle Reviews

Students comparing Quay Point Newcastle reviews are likely to look beyond the room itself and consider the location, facilities and overall setup.

The property's proximity to Northumbria University's City Campus is one of its clearest advantages. The combination of en-suite rooms, inclusive bills, study areas, social spaces and an on-site gym also gives students several practical features to consider when comparing accommodation.

For anyone considering Quay Point Northumbria, the main point to keep in mind is the accommodation style. It offers en-suite rooms within shared flats rather than self-contained studios, so it is better suited to students who want private bedroom and bathroom facilities alongside shared communal living.

Quay Point University Clearing

Students securing a university place through Clearing may also want to check Quay Point university clearing availability as soon as their place at Northumbria University is confirmed.

I have been living in this accommodation for around 9 months now, and overall I really like it. The quality is good, the location is convenient, and my experience here has mostly been positive. However, there are still a few things that could be improved 1- like one problem is that the carpet or flooring in the room gets dirty very quickly. 2- when the room next to me closes their door loudly, sometimes the sound is so strong that I think someone closed my own door. 3- the sink water temperature It is either too cold or too hot, and it’s difficult to get a comfortable middle temperature.I sometimes started washing my face in the kitchen sink instead, because there I can actually make the water a medium temperature 4- The wardrobe/storage room is also quite small. 5- The laundry room is outside my building, so I need to leave the building and walk to another room for washing clothes. It is close, but sometimes it rains, sometimes it’s very cold, and honestly it makes me feel lazy to do laundry. Also, the laundry costs money every time, so that makes it even less convenient. I wish the laundry room was inside the building because it would be much easier. On the positive side: 1- the quality of the accommodation is good. 2- The desk is big and very comfortable for studying. 3- The location is also great because it is close to Northumbria University and the Quayside. 4- There is a small market in front of the accommodation, which is very useful when I don’t feel like walking to the far Tesco and just want something quick. There is also a pizza store nearby. 🌟One thing that really impressed me was when the kitchen toaster broke. They replaced it with a new one without blaming anyone or making us pay for it. I thought that was very professional and kind. Cleaners also come every month. Me and my flatmate already clean the kitchen deeply every week, but the accommodation cleaning is even more professional and detailed. 🌟Another thing I like is the mail room system. Parcels are organized alphabetically, so when you order something online, you only need to look for the shelf with the first letter of your name. For example, my name starts with “K,” so I only check the “K” section, which makes collecting parcels very easy. thanks✨

Very good accommodation, very attentive and helpful staff who are extremely quick to help. the maintenance team are exceptionally quick (one highlighted incident is when they arrived and fixed the flat front door 10 minutes after putting a request in, this was also at 12:30am). the facilities are amazing and provide so many opportunities for residents. the actual rooms are really lovely and clean, the perfect space for 1 person with great storage and sockets. internet speed is amazing making it great for students. kitchen is a good size with great facilities. i would definitely recommend quaypoint and i have rebooked for the next academic year.

My experience in the accommodation has unfortunately been quite negative. While the room and kitchen look modern, there are have been several issues which have affected the experience. I moved into this accommodation from another nearby one due to safeguarding reasons and was reassured that there were no issues with the people in the flat. Unfortunately this has not been the case and there have been ongoing problems within the flat which have made the environment uncomfortable. I also later found out from the girl who previously lived in my room had told management she was moving to a studio because of ongoing problems with one of the flatmates being unhygienic and having antisocial behaviour. This was concerning as I had been told there were no issues before I moved in. Management and communication have not been good. The lift in my building was broken for several months before it was finally fixed, which made moving around the building difficult. When I first moved in it was broken and it took us 9 hours to move accommodation as we had to carry all the heavy luggage up 5 flights without any assistance from the staff. There have also been difficulties the flat that have not been handled well. Management were informed about a problematic flatmate who was leaving out food for a long time in our shared kitchen, which lead to mould, a foul odour, and flies. This flatmate has also posted images and screenshots on her social media without consent talking badly about us, which has created an uncomfortable living environment. When this was raised, I was asked to organise a meeting with everyone in the flat myself, which I felt should’ve been handled by management. They eventually sent out an email about arranging a meeting, but most did not see it or were busy, and nothing further was followed. Since then the situation has continued and has become worse. In terms of facilities, the kitchen is not very practical for six people. There is only one fridge, sink, oven, and stove shared between all the residents, as well as limited countertop space and not enough seats for everyone, which can make daily use extremely difficult and inconvenient. The previous accommodation I lived in had multiple appliances, more cupboards, countertop space and seating, which made shared living much more enjoyable. Although the room itself is decent, there isn’t enough drawer or wardrobe storage, the light is cool and harsh which makes the space less comfortable, and the bed is rock hard. The bathroom is modern, but the shower pressure is very weak and the water quality isn’t great throughout both the bathroom and kitchen taps. The water tastes like chemicals and tends to leave residue on hair. Overall, while the accommodation looks nice on the surface, the limited kitchen facilities, flickering lights outside the accommodation for months which are still not fixed, gate which is broken and permanently unlocked, unresolved flat issues and lack of proactive management have made the experience disappointing.

Moved into a new flat today and Michael was extremely helpful throughout the entire process and offered to help carry most of my things! As I was completely on my own his help was beyond appreciated and I want to thank him for going the extra mile to help tenants here! It was also late in the evening so I found it very kind of him to offer the help he did.
