Bradford College Accommodation

Bradford College began in 1832 to teach skills required by local industry. It now teaches T Levels, vocational qualifications, apprenticeships, undergraduate degrees and postgraduate courses across six campuses.

The David Hockney Building anchors the main campus on Great Horton Road. Its facilities include more than 90 classrooms, training kitchens, laboratories, a television studio, hair and beauty salons, photography suites, a library and a multi-faith space. Trinity Green contains construction, engineering and sports facilities, including workshops, an indoor sports hall, a 3G pitch and a dance studio.

The course list covers construction, engineering, business, health and social care, art, design, media, computing, hair and beauty, science, pharmacy, teaching and several trade subjects. Degree students follow the academic rules of the relevant validating body, which can include the University of Bolton, Leeds Trinity University, Pearson or the Association of British Dispensing Opticians.

That practical course mix changes the accommodation decision. Workshop sessions, placements, specialist equipment and early starts can make a reliable route to the correct college building more useful than a long facilities list at the property.

Bradford College automatically enrols everyone aged 16 or over as a member of its Students’ Union. The union runs independent advice, course representation, volunteering, clubs, societies and enrichment events.

Bradford College Plus gives extracurricular work a formal record. Current activities include badminton, boxing, cricket, dance, health and fitness sessions, and a women-only gym session. Trinity Green also contains an indoor sports hall, 3G pitch and dance studio.

The National Science and Media Museum opens daily and charges no general admission. Pictureville runs cinema screenings inside the museum, while City Park and the Mirror Pool stand nearby.

Darley Street Market replaced the old Kirkgate and Oastler markets in 2025. Its fresh-food and retail halls open from Monday to Saturday, while the food hall trades into the evening and on Sundays. This gives central Bradford a useful place for groceries, inexpensive meals and local traders.

Bradford completed its UK City of Culture year in 2025, but the programme did not disappear at the end of December. Bradford Culture Company continues to fund projects, public art and cultural work during 2026.

Healthcare needs an early place on the arrival list. Register with a local GP after taking the room, and keep the college’s support and safeguarding contacts saved. Bradford Royal Infirmary handles most inpatient services for the local NHS trust.

The central campus gives four areas a clear advantage: the city centre, the university quarter, Great Horton and Manningham. Each one changes the rent, route and type of property available.

City Centre

Bradford city centre puts shops, cafés, the museum, City Park and both railway stations within reach of Great Horton Road. Bradford Interchange takes about 12 minutes on foot from the main campus, while Forster Square takes roughly 15 minutes.

Wardley House occupies the city-centre side of the college route. iQ Arkwright House also keeps the campus and Interchange nearby. The central streets make sense for anyone who expects regular train travel, evening shifts or frequent visits to shops after class.

Noise deserves a check before signing. A front-facing room near a busy road, venue or late-opening takeaway can feel very different from a room at the back of the same building.

University Quarter and Little Horton

The streets between Bradford College and the University of Bradford contain the highest concentration of private halls. The Green, Longside House and Horton House all fall within this part of the city.

This area keeps Great Horton Road, the university campus and basic shops within a short walk. The route also passes through streets used throughout the day, which matters after a late library session or practical class.

Property names can create confusion here because many listings describe their distance from the University of Bradford first. A search for student accommodation Bradford or accommodation Bradford College can therefore return a promising room with the wrong campus selected. Enter BD7 1AY before trusting the mileage.

Great Horton

Great Horton continues south-west from the campus and carries private houses, flats, takeaways, supermarkets and frequent buses along the main road. Rent can drop as the address moves farther from the centre, but the full postcode makes a large difference to the journey. Route 576 currently runs along Great Horton Road between Bradford and Halifax.

A property at the campus end of Great Horton Road may need no bus at all. An address deeper into the neighbourhood can add a regular fare and a much longer walk. Check the door-to-door route, not the area name.

Great Horton can suit a group that wants a private house after the first year. The household then takes charge of gas, electricity, broadband, cleaning and communication with the landlord.

Manningham

Manningham lies north of the centre and gives access to Lister Park, Cartwright Hall and local shops. The campus route crosses the city centre, so a bus can save time from addresses farther north.

Rent may undercut central purpose-built halls, though travel costs can reduce the difference. Check the first and final bus for early workshops, evening classes and part-time work before accepting a cheaper tenancy.

Current Bradford College accommodation prices begin near £75 per week for an available private room. Several listed rooms fall below £100, which gives Bradford a lower entry point than many larger university cities. Studios usually cost more than the cheapest private bedroom because the room includes its own bathroom and kitchenette.

The tenancy length still controls the final figure. A £75 room over 50 weeks costs £3,750. A £90 room over 44 weeks costs £3,960. The second room has the higher weekly price but adds only £210 across those contracts.

West Yorkshire Metro currently charges £20.80 for a weekly unlimited bus ticket for eligible 19-to-25-year-olds and full-time students. A countywide weekly bus-and-rail ticket costs £31. Bradford College also runs bursaries and hardship support that can cover travel, course equipment or other study costs for eligible learners.

Purpose-built accommodation commonly includes electricity, gas, water and Wi-Fi. A private house may advertise a smaller rent while leaving the group to open utility accounts and divide each bill. Ask for the Energy Performance Certificate, council-tax position and recent utility estimates before signing a private tenancy.

International applicants should treat the Student visa financial requirement as an immigration rule, not a suggested weekly budget. The current requirement for study outside London stands at £1,171 per month for up to nine months.

Bradford College runs separate support schemes for learners aged 16 to 19, those aged 19 or over on further education courses, and higher education students.

Private Room

This format carries the lowest advertised rates at properties such as The Green. Before booking, count the number of people assigned to the kitchen and bathroom. Four tenants can share a modest kitchen without much trouble; eight tenants need more fridge space, cupboards and cooking equipment.

En-suite Room

An en-suite adds a private shower, toilet and sink to the bedroom. Flatmates still share the kitchen and, in some buildings, a lounge.

The extra rent buys bathroom privacy, not necessarily more bedroom space. Compare room measurements across the property’s entry, premium and deluxe categories before paying for the higher label.

Studio

A studio keeps the bathroom and kitchenette inside one self-contained room. This setup removes kitchen rotas and shared-fridge problems, but it raises the weekly price.

Check the hob, oven or microwave specification before booking. A “kitchenette” can mean anything from a full cooking area to two rings, a sink and a compact fridge.

Townhouse or Shared House

The Green lists townhouse rooms, while Bradford’s private rental market includes shared terraced houses around Great Horton and Little Horton. Each tenant gets a bedroom and shares the kitchen, bathroom and common areas.

A house can reduce the cost per person, especially for an established group. It also transfers more responsibility to the tenants. Put the cleaning plan, bill split and end-of-tenancy expectations in writing before move-in day.

The current college listing places six named properties within 0.7 miles of Great Horton Road. Availability does not remain fixed, and the cheapest room type often disappears first.

iQ Arkwright House

iQ Arkwright House has the shortest listed route to Bradford College. The building stands on Tumbling Hill Street, around five minutes from the campus on foot, and keeps Bradford Interchange under a ten-minute walk.

The room list includes en-suites in shared flats and self-contained studios. Rent covers utilities, Wi-Fi and contents insurance. The building also has a gym, cinema room, games room, study lounge, laundry and secure cycle storage.

The shared facilities add value only when they match the week you expect to have. Anyone who already uses Trinity Green for sport or studies on campus may care more about the room size and kitchen capacity than the cinema or gym.

The Green

The Green currently carries the lowest available starting price on the Bradford College page. It stands on De Walden Way, around 0.2 miles from campus.

The property lists townhouse rooms from £75 and en-suite categories at higher rates. Rent includes electricity, gas, heating, water and Wi-Fi. Residents also get on-site laundry, security, car parking and outdoor courtyards.

The £75 rate belongs to the Classic Townhouse Room, not an en-suite or studio. Check the bathroom arrangement and number of housemates before treating it as a direct substitute for a private en-suite elsewhere.

Longside House Bradford

Longside House lies around 0.38 miles from Bradford College and currently advertises rooms from about £90 per week.

Its room list covers en-suites and studios. The rent includes electricity, gas, water and Wi-Fi, while the building adds a common room, cinema, games room, laundry, bike storage, parking and on-site maintenance.

Longside suits anyone who expects to use several shared rooms inside the building. A quieter tenancy may require a room away from the common areas, lifts and main entrance.

Horton House Bradford

Horton House stands on Great Horton Road, around 0.46 miles from the college. Listed prices begin near £80, though the Bradford College page has recently shown the property as sold out.

The building has en-suite rooms and studios, plus a gym, cinema room, games room, common room and outdoor courtyard. Utility bills and Wi-Fi form part of the rent.

Keep the property on a backup list when no rooms appear. A sold-out starting price cannot support an active budget until the booking page releases another room.

Wardley House

Wardley House occupies a city-centre address above the ice rink and near the National Science and Media Museum. The college listing places it around 0.7 miles from Great Horton Road.

Rooms currently start near £90, and the property includes utilities, Wi-Fi and contents insurance. Residents also have access to a common room, laundry, cycle storage, CCTV and on-site support.

This address cuts the route to museums, City Park, shops and central transport. The walk to college takes longer than the closest halls, but it may fit a timetable that includes city-centre work or regular train travel.

Wardley House Key Workers

Wardley House Key Workers appears around 0.17 miles from Bradford College, with prices from £97 per week. The listing has recently shown no rooms available.

The property targets key workers as well as eligible tenants, so the booking conditions need careful reading. Confirm eligibility, contract length and room status before adding it to a shortlist.

The lowest price currently belongs to The Green at £75 per week. iQ Arkwright House, Longside House and Wardley House follow below the £100 mark on current listings.

Horton House displays £80, but a sold-out room cannot count as a bookable option. The same rule applies to any cashback rate attached to a room that no longer appears in the booking system.

Affordable Bradford College accommodation needs three numbers: weekly rent, contract length and costs outside the rent. Laundry, deposits, advance rent and transport can change the order of the shortlist once everything appears on the same page.

Great Horton Road campus takes about 12 minutes to reach from Bradford Interchange and roughly 15 minutes from Bradford Forster Square on foot. That central position keeps most nearby halls free from a compulsory daily bus journey.

Walking

The closest purpose-built properties fall within 0.13 to 0.7 miles of the college listing. Walk the exact route on a map and check it again after dark. Busy crossings, steep streets, lighting and late-opening shops matter more than a rounded mileage figure.

A route can also save money outside the college journey. A supermarket or station on the way home removes another trip from the week.

Buses

West Yorkshire buses cover Great Horton Road, Manningham and the outer neighbourhoods. Route 576 runs along Great Horton Road between Bradford and Halifax, while several city services leave Bradford Interchange for districts throughout Bradford.

A weekly 19-to-25 or student bus ticket currently costs £20.80. Full-time mature learners can also qualify for student tickets with the correct photocard. Under-19 learners should check the college bursary and Metro travel-pass rules before paying for a full-price ticket.

Do not buy a long pass from the neighbourhood name alone. Check the timetable against the first class, final workshop, job shift or placement time.

Rail

Bradford uses two central railway stations. Interchange handles routes towards Leeds, Halifax and Manchester. Forster Square serves Leeds, Shipley, Ilkley and Skipton, with selected long-distance services.

The college campus lies between the two stations, though Interchange gives the shorter walk. Engineering work can alter weekend services, so check the journey again before a flight or term-end trip.

Airport Travel

The FLYER A2 connects Bradford Interchange with Leeds Bradford Airport throughout the day. The timetable changes by date, and roadworks can affect the route, so check the first service before booking an early flight.

A taxi can reduce travel time with heavy luggage, but the fare needs adding to the ticket price. An early departure can lose its saving when it requires a private transfer.
