About this property

The Village at The Viaduct

The Village at the Viaduct Durham Student Accommodation Overview

Choosing student accommodation is one of the first big decisions you'll make before university begins. The right place can save you time travelling, make day-to-day living easier, and give you a space where you can focus on your studies while still enjoying everything the city has to offer. The Village at the Viaduct Durham brings those things together, placing students close to Durham University, transport links and many of the places that become part of everyday university life.

Accommodation here caters to different ways of living. Some students prefer the privacy of a self-contained studio, while others enjoy the atmosphere of a shared apartment with an en-suite room of their own. Whatever your preference, the Village at the Viaduct offers a practical base with modern facilities, comfortable communal spaces and an environment where settling into university life feels that little bit easier.

About The Village at the Viaduct

Moving away from home is about much more than unpacking your belongings. Very quickly, your accommodation becomes the place where assignments get finished, group projects come together, weekends begin, and friendships grow. Having somewhere that supports each part of university life makes a noticeable difference throughout the academic year.

The Village at the Viaduct has been planned with that in mind. Students can choose from en-suite rooms within shared apartments or private studios, giving everyone the opportunity to find accommodation that suits both their lifestyle and budget. Shared flats are popular with students who enjoy living alongside others, while studio rooms offer extra independence with your own kitchen, bathroom and personal living space.

Every room comes fully furnished, so moving in is straightforward from the very beginning. Beyond your own accommodation, the property includes dedicated study areas for quieter working sessions, comfortable communal lounges where residents can unwind after lectures and outdoor spaces that encourage students to spend time together outside their flats.

Life at the Village at the Viaduct Durham is designed to balance study with everyday living. Practical facilities, social spaces and a well-connected location all contribute to an accommodation experience that feels just as suitable for first-year students as it does for those returning for another academic year.

Life at The Village at the Viaduct Durham

Living in Durham has its own character. The city is compact enough to explore on foot yet offers everything students need throughout the academic year, from university buildings and libraries to cafés, restaurants and green spaces. Choosing the Village at the Viaduct means many of those places are already within comfortable walking distance, helping you spend less time travelling and more time making the most of university life.

Daily essentials are easy to take care of thanks to the supermarkets across Durham city centre, particularly around North Road. Whether you're stocking up for the week or picking up a few things after lectures, shopping doesn't require a lengthy trip across town.

The surrounding area also gives you plenty of options whenever you want to eat out or take a break from cooking. Cosy Club has become a favourite among students looking for relaxed dining, while The Food Pit at The Riverwalk brings together several independent food vendors under one roof. If you're planning an evening meal with friends, 19Twenty Bar & Grill offers another popular choice within the city centre.

Coffee breaks often become part of student life as much as lectures do. The cafés around The Riverwalk provide comfortable places to meet classmates, catch up on reading or simply spend an hour away from your accommodation between classes.

Keeping active is equally convenient. PureGym Durham is close by for regular workouts, while Wharton Park offers one of the city's best outdoor spaces for walking, running or enjoying a quiet afternoon overlooking Durham. When coursework begins to pile up, Durham Clayport Library provides another useful place to study outside your room, especially during revision periods.

Getting around the city is straightforward. Durham (DHM) railway station connects the city with destinations across the North East and beyond, making journeys home or weekend trips much easier. Local buses operating from Durham bus station also provide convenient access to different parts of the city and surrounding areas.

Healthcare facilities are close at hand too, with the University Hospital of North Durham serving as the city's main hospital. For shopping, The Riverwalk Durham combines retail stores, cafés and restaurants in one convenient destination, making it a place students often return to throughout the year.

Evenings are rarely quiet in Durham. The Three Bridges and The Drunken Duck remain popular meeting spots where students gather after lectures or at the weekend, adding another social dimension to life at the Village at the Viaduct.

I really enjoyed my time at The Village at the Viaduct. The accommodation was comfortable, well maintained, and it quickly felt like home during my stay in Durham. The location is great too, it's within easy walking distance of the city centre while still being in a quiet area, making it a lovely place to live. A special thank you to Chloe at reception. She was always so welcoming, kind, and happy to help with anything! Whether it was answering questions or just having a friendly chat, she always made my day a little brighter. It's people like Chloe who make a place feel much more than just an accommodation. Thank you, Chloe!

Although I've only been living here for a month, this is absolutely the finest accommodation I've ever had since arriving in Britain. The immaculate cleanliness of the rooms astonished me, and the lift proved invaluable when moving heavy suitcases. Beyond that, the managers, Chloe and Andrew, always patiently addressed all my queries and provided the best solutions to any issues, leaving me feeling completely at ease. ‘When I'm 120 years old and journalists ask me the secret to my longevity, I'll tremblingly pull a photograph of The Village at The Viaduct from my pocket and declare: “I shan't close my eyes until every person on this earth has resided in perfect rooms here.”’ ————Yuze Du

I've lived at Host the Student Village for a few years now, and it’s been a really positive experience. The staff are lovely and always happy to help, which makes a big difference. Andrew and the wardens are great at handling any issues that come up – they’re approachable and make the place feel safe to live in. I was a bit worried at first about mail collection only being available 9-5, but they’re so efficient with deliveries that it’s never been an issue. The heaters are also a lifesaver in winter – they work so well and keep the rooms properly warm! The rooms themselves are a great size, even for someone like me who tends to overpack, and the wardrobes surprisingly fit more than you'd think. Plus, the location is really convenient, which makes everything that much easier. Overall, I’ve had a great experience living here – would definitely recommend!

FAQs

Your property contract is for a fixed length of time – so your room is yours during that period. That means that you don’t have the hassle of moving your belongings out during the Christmas or Easter vacations, and you can choose to stay in your property over these holidays if you want. It’s usually possible to book additional accommodation over the summer period if you want to stay then too. But we advise booking early to ensure rooms are available.

The property designs homes that provide everything you need to enjoy living with us. Our flats come kitted out with all your cooking appliances: cooker, hob, kettle, toaster and microwave – and some sites also provide cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils*.

The property takes safety seriously. Many of our properties have a member of staff or security guard on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure help is always at hand should the need arise. Please check with your chosen location to see if this service is available. In addition, electronic door entry systems, intercoms and CCTV ensure that everyone who lives with us enjoys a high standard of security and the safest possible environment. So they can get on with enjoying themselves.

Every property home has a dedicated caretaker team to respond to and solve your maintenance issues. We respond to every issue quickly and, if possible, will complete the repair during the first visit. Of course, this isn’t always possible and there are times when parts need to be ordered or external contractors arranged. When this happens, we’ll keep you updated on the progress.
