2.5 stars I'm currently living in a two bedroom apartment at Crown Place. At first, I was really surprised about the negative reviews online. The location is amazing and maintenance issues got fixed within a few days. However, that might have been a false first impression. I am usually not the one to complain and overall I actually like it here, but there have been issues that I can't ignore. The extractor fans in our entire apartment have stopped working over a month ago. This means no fan in the two windowless bathrooms or the kitchen (except for the small one above the hob). Due to this, the entire apartment is quite humid. Not only does this increase the risk for mold (I think my flatmate's bathroom door is already moldy) but it also creates a good habitat for silverfish, which have been living in our kitchen for weeks now. It has been a month since my flatmate and I have complained about this, and while workers have showed up to "take pictures of the fan to know which one they have to order" (this happened weeks after we complained), the fan has not been fixed. + amazing location, less than 10 mins to city centre, Sainsbury's and Cardiff University; pub and vegan coffee shop literally just around the corner + small but nice rooms + a lot of storage space in bedroom + own bathroom + only two people sharing one kitchen + lamp on the desk and above the bed (friends living in other private halls had to buy lamps) + not many false fire alarms (compared to friends' experiences in other private halls) + contrary to many reviews I found the staff to be really kind most of the times - broken fan and slow maintenance! - silverfish - wasn't entirely clean when I moved in (hairs in the shower, stains on kitchen hob) - not many social events - very small kitchen, not much space for storage - no oven! - broken gym - no bed linen or kitchen utensils, even though the ad said "fully equipped kitchen" - price

I’ve had a really good experience living here and I genuinely think it’s the best student accommodation in Cardiff. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable, making it feel like a proper home. The facilities are also really good and everything is well looked after. The location is super convenient with shops, transport and university buildings all close by which makes daily life much easier. The staff are very friendly and always ready to help whenever needed. They also organise events which makes it easier to meet people. Overall it’s a great place for students and I would definitely recommend it.

I really like this student apartment. It has a great location, is safe, and is close to both the school and the city center. Most importantly, the management is very responsible and patient.

After viewing the room, kitchen and bathroom, I left the accommodation immediately, feeling shocked. The walls were dirty, some of the furniture was broken and the previous tenant’s belongings were still in the bathroom. My key fob didn’t open any of the doors. When I arrived, I found that my room was already open. I had booked a two-room flat, but unfortunately the second room was locked and inaccessible. There were hardly any kitchen utensils; cooking would have been very difficult. Overall, the property is poorly maintained and does not match the photos found online. However, communication with customer service was smooth at all times.

All utilities – electric, gas and water – are included in the rent on a ‘fair usage allowance’ with hot water available 24-hours per day. Heaters are controlled individually by the tenants in their rooms. High-speed internet and Wi-Fi throughout the building, including bedrooms and ethernet cable connection in bedrooms Council Tax – students are exempt from paying council tax, however some councils may charge tenants out of term time, therefore the tenant is liable for any council tax charges that may be incurred. Contents insurance is provided through Endsleigh insurance to cover your belongings for up to £10,000.
There are three payment options available at Collegiate. Collegiate gives you the flexibility to pay your rent in either one full payment or four instalments. To pay in instalments, you’ll need to provide proof of a UK-based guarantor, such as a family member or friend. If you don’t have a UK-based guarantor but would still like to pay in four instalments, this is possible with a 5% upfront fee applied to your total accommodation fees. Collegiate provides excellent flexibility with our 4-instalment payment plan, designed specifically for students who use student loans and/or grants to pay their rent. We require 4 weeks’ rent to be paid before the tenancy start date as the first instalment, with a larger second instalment due at the end of September, aligning with the timing of most UK student loan and grant payments. This approach helps students manage their finances more effectively at the start of the academic term.
