There's something different about living in a university town by the sea. Your walk to class might include views across the coastline, evenings can end with a stroll along the promenade, and finding somewhere quiet to unwind is rarely difficult. Alexandra Hall Aberystwyth brings together that coastal setting with accommodation designed around student life, offering a place where studying and everyday living fit side by side comfortably.
Positioned on Victoria Terrace overlooking Cardigan Bay, Alexandra Hall has become a familiar part of Aberystwyth's seafront. The residence offers a broad selection of room types, from affordable single rooms to spacious apartments for students who prefer more independence. Combined with practical facilities, inclusive bills and easy access to the university and town centre, Alexandra Hall student accommodation provides a setting that suits both first-year students arriving in Aberystwyth and those returning for another academic year.
Few student residences have a location quite like this one. Looking out across the seafront, Alexandra Hall Aberystwyth has long been one of the town's recognisable buildings. Students researching Alexandra Hall Aberystwyth history often notice its traditional appearance before they even arrive, and while the residence has adapted to modern student living over the years, it still retains much of the character that makes it stand out along the coastline.
Living here offers a different pace compared with accommodation in larger cities. Mornings begin a short distance from the beach, the town centre is only a walk away, and the university can be reached without lengthy daily commutes. That balance between academic life and the relaxed atmosphere of Aberystwyth is one of the reasons many students choose to stay here.
Accommodation has been arranged to suit different lifestyles and budgets. Single and double rooms provide straightforward options for students looking for comfortable accommodation, while en-suite rooms add extra privacy. Those who prefer more independent living can choose one of the apartments, giving them additional space throughout the academic year.
Life inside the building extends beyond individual rooms. Study areas offer somewhere quieter to prepare for assignments, communal spaces encourage residents to spend time together, and security features help create a reassuring environment throughout the year. It's an approach that allows students to enjoy their independence while still feeling part of a wider community.
Alexandra Hall
Victoria Terrace
Aberystwyth SY23 2DH
United Kingdom
The property's position on Victoria Terrace is one of its strongest advantages. With the promenade directly outside and the town centre only a short walk away, daily errands, university life and leisure activities all become much easier to manage.
Living in Aberystwyth feels noticeably different from studying in a large city. The town is compact enough to explore on foot, yet busy enough throughout the academic year to give students plenty to do beyond lectures. Beaches, cafés, independent shops and university buildings all sit within a relatively short distance of one another, making everyday life refreshingly uncomplicated.
Stepping outside Alexandra Hall, the seafront quickly becomes part of your routine. Many students begin their mornings with a walk along the promenade before lectures, while evenings often end watching the sunset over Cardigan Bay. Having the coastline so close gives the property a setting that few student residences elsewhere can offer.
The town centre is equally convenient. Supermarkets nearby make grocery shopping simple, while the shops around Great Darkgate Street provide everything from everyday essentials to places for weekend browsing. Since most destinations are within walking distance, it's easy to leave the accommodation knowing you'll rarely need lengthy journeys for basic errands.
Cafés and restaurants are scattered throughout the town centre, offering plenty of places to meet classmates after lectures. Upstairs Bar at Royal Pier is a popular stop for coffee overlooking the sea, while Athro Lounge and Inn On The Pier are both well-known choices when you're eating out with friends or celebrating the end of exams.
Students who enjoy keeping active have easy access to the Aberystwyth University Sports Centre, while Plascrug Park provides another option for anyone who prefers fresh air, running or simply spending time outdoors. During busy academic periods, the National Library of Wales offers an excellent alternative study environment, particularly for research projects or longer revision sessions.
Travelling in and out of the town is also straightforward. Aberystwyth Railway Station and the nearby bus station provide regular connections across the region, making journeys home or weekend trips much easier. Bronglais General Hospital is close by as well, offering additional reassurance throughout your time at university.
Choosing accommodation isn't only about comparing room prices. The location, facilities and atmosphere all influence how enjoyable university life becomes over the next few years. Alexandra Hall Aberystwyth combines a distinctive seafront setting with practical features that students use every day.

Finding student accommodation through Clearing can feel a little uncertain, particularly if you've only recently accepted your university offer. Since Aberystwyth welcomes students from across the UK every academic year, well-located accommodation often attracts plenty of interest once results are confirmed. Checking availability at Alexandra Hall Aberystwyth as early as possible gives you the best chance of securing the room type that matches both your budget and the kind of living experience you're looking for.
The residence offers everything from affordable single rooms to spacious apartments, making it suitable for students with different priorities. Some prefer the social atmosphere of shared accommodation, while others value the additional privacy that comes with an apartment or en-suite room. As room availability changes throughout the admissions period, making an enquiry soon after receiving your university place is always worthwhile.
Although Aberystwyth is a town that's easy to explore on foot, reliable public transport is still an advantage for students travelling home during holidays or exploring other parts of Wales. Alexandra Hall sits within convenient reach of both the railway station and the main bus station, making journeys beyond the town simple to plan.

I have lived in Alexandra Halls for close to six years at this point and there isn't really much more you could ask for from an accommodation. The rent is the most competitive you'll find anywhere in Aberystwyth, the internet is actually gigabit, the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, and it's all right on the coast. When I moved in it was mid-Covid and I've had several personal issues since then (some medical, some academic, some just life things), at all times I felt like I could be frank to the reception team and was always accommodated when I needed a change to the existing affairs. I have rented a few places but Alex Halls is the first place that felt like they genuinely cared about my wellbeing. I could not recommend more strongly.

Stayed here in second year of uni in a classic en suit. The rooms are very spacious with double beds, lots of storage for clothes and other belongings (including large built-in wardrobe, under-bed storage, drawers and shelves). En suit was very nice, with a good shower. The staff was exceptionally friendly, making me feel very welcomed. The reception take in post for you, meaning you'll never miss a parcel. The prices are very reasonable, cheaper than the equivalent university accommodation; not as cheap as some student houses, but much nicer and more modern however. Highly recommended for students looking for accommodation.

Close to everything but not noisy, the rooms are clean and cosy, beach and sauna right outside the door, the staff are beyond amazing, kind, thoughtful and helpful, theyre always fast to help; i could not praise and recommend it enough. 4 years here and i wouldnt change a thing. Definitely recommend to students!

Kind of felt like they weren’t ready to open for students in September 2024. Lots of things were unfinished, scaffolding still up- wet paint in my room. All of our kitchen cupboard doors were hanging off🤣. They seem much more ready for students this academic year, it’s just a shame our year had a slightly worse experience.
B Smith
Living here has been awful. The owners and staff are misleading and flat out liars. Building works were said to have been completed by the end of 2023. It’s now April 2024, scaffolding is still up. People are being charged full price for ‘sea view’ rooms that have had scaffolding in front of them for the entirety of their occupancy. This is wrong and false advertising. If you email any complaints you are ignored. If you speak to staff directly you’re told to send an email. It is laughable. The place is an absolute farce. All the window frames in the front flats have cracks and are fully open in lots of places meaning constant cold draft blowing into rooms. The flat was filthy when we moved in and had to be deep cleaned by ourselves. The showers are full of mould and kitchens stink. There is no communication as to when to scaffolding will be completely down or all works completed. If you booked here for next year I’m really sorry. If you’re thinking of booking here please pay the extra and just live on campus
