Moving into Scape Merivale has honestly been one of the most positive housing experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely welcomed and supported — something that isn’t always guaranteed when you’re navigating student accommodation, study pressures, and life changes all at once. Natasha, the Operations Manager, has been incredible from the very beginning. She didn’t just answer my questions — she actually listened. She treated my situation with respect, kindness, and patience, and made the whole process feel smooth instead of stressful. That kind of support makes a huge difference when you’re settling into a new place, and I really appreciated how approachable and understanding she was. When I moved in on the 26th March 2026, Trinity and Rhiannon were just as amazing. They were warm, friendly, and genuinely happy to help. They didn’t rush me or make me feel like an inconvenience — they made sure I felt comfortable, settled, and confident in my new space. Their kindness stood out immediately, and it set the tone for what living here is actually like: supportive, human, and community‑focused. What I’ve noticed most is that the team here doesn’t treat residents like numbers. They treat you like a person unlike other student accommodations in Brisbane I have stayed at. They check in, they smile, they remember details, and they create an environment where you feel safe and looked after. For me, that sense of stability and care means a lot. I’m really grateful to be living at Scape Merivale. If you’re a student looking for a place where the staff genuinely care, where the environment feels welcoming, and where you’re supported from day one, I can honestly recommend this place. It’s been a really positive start, and I’m looking forward to the rest of my time here.

For anyone considering living at Scape, please be aware that the actual living experience may be very different from what you see in the photos or promotional materials. I lived at Scape for around two years, and my biggest concern was the maintenance and the standard of the living environment. When something needs to be repaired, the response can be extremely slow. For example, I reported an issue with the aircon, and it took almost a month before it was finally dealt with, which significantly affected the comfort of the room, particularly during the warmer months. What is even more frustrating is that whenever these issues are raised, residents are often told that things will be improved. However, after living here for around two years, I honestly did not see meaningful improvement in the maintenance experience. The same problems and the same way of handling them seemed to continue. This is particularly disappointing because these do not feel like isolated incidents anymore. When the same issues continue to happen over a long period of time, it raises questions about whether resident feedback is actually being taken seriously and whether management is willing or able to make meaningful changes. Another issue I found disappointing was the condition of the room when I first moved in. The entry condition report recorded multiple areas that were not clean, including parts of the kitchen and bathroom. I had to clean these areas myself after moving in. For student accommodation, where residents are paying a significant amount of money to live there, I expect basic maintenance issues to be handled in a reasonable timeframe and resident concerns to result in actual improvements, not just repeated promises that things will get better. Scape may look attractive in photos, but based on my experience, I would strongly recommend prospective residents look beyond the appearance of the building and ask current residents about maintenance, repair response times, and how complaints are actually handled. Overall, there are other good student accommodations around city and near campus, perhaps you can consider them. Best luck.

There is one positive aspect of living here. The location is convenient. However, after living here for two years, I also experienced a number of issues that I think prospective residents should be aware of. 1. Maintenance and repair response My microwave broke and it took almost a month before the issue was properly resolved. Even more seriously, during last summer, the air conditioning in my room was not properly fixed for approximately two months. Imagine living in a room in Brisbane with temperatures above 30°C, without even having a fan available. We were told that we could borrow a portable water-cooling fan from reception, but by that point all of them had already been borrowed. 2. Inconsistent customer service To be fair, I would not say that all staff members were unfriendly. There were staff members who were helpful and pleasant. However, I did experience a noticeable difference in attitude depending on who I was dealing with. There was one male staff member who appeared to be in a managerial position. In my experience, his attitude was very friendly and helpful towards residents he seemed to know well, while his attitude towards residents he was less familiar with felt noticeably different. 3. The missing breakfast incident One incident particularly affected my impression of how resident issues were handled. After another resident reported that their breakfast had gone missing, a manager came directly to the room I was sharing with another resident and questioned both of us about it. Neither of us had anything to do with the missing breakfast. What I found uncomfortable was that we were questioned despite not being involved, and we were warned about potential legal consequences if the person responsible were eventually identified. From my perspective, it would have been more appropriate to first establish the facts and investigate what had actually happened, for example by reviewing available CCTV, before directly questioning residents who had not been identified as being involved. 4. Resident activities and benefits I do appreciate that Scape organises resident activities and sometimes provides free food, drinks or other benefits. However, in my experience, the quantities are often extremely limited. As a result, these benefits may only be available to a small number of residents, particularly when there are many residents in the building. Overall If you are considering living at Scape, I would recommend looking beyond the building, location and promotional activities and also considering how maintenance issues and end-of-tenancy matters are handled. This is simply my personal experience after approximately two years as a resident.

Review of My Stay at Scape Premium Studio View I stayed in a Premium Studio View, and while the experience had its highlights, there were significant shortcomings that need to be addressed. The room itself was spacious with a stunning view, and I appreciated that the window could open—something rare in other Scape locations. The shared facilities were excellent, with modern and well-maintained common areas. The location is another strong point—exceptional and very convenient. However, my stay was plagued by several issues: • Arrival Nightmare: I arrived late at night, only to find the door locked with no staff on-site. Without phone coverage or Wi-Fi, I was stranded outside with all my luggage. Thankfully, my driver managed to call the emergency line, and a security guard eventually arrived to let me in. But that was it—no towels or bedding were provided, despite the fact that I had paid extra for them. I had to sleep with insufficient warmth in freezing conditions. The lack of concern from the staff was shocking; despite emailing them beforehand to confirm their availability, I received no response until a week later with an unapologetic excuse about having too many emails. • Temperature Control Issues: While advertised as having air conditioning, it was merely a fan that emitted a strong musty odor, even after requesting the filter to be cleaned. The cold weather during my stay made it unbearable, and the inability to adjust the temperature was frustrating. • Bathroom Problems: The bathroom had a persistent unpleasant smell from the plumbing that was never resolved during my stay. • Cooking Inconveniences: Every time I cooked, the extractor fan would turn on automatically and stay running for nearly 30 minutes, producing loud noise. Even heating something as simple as a piece of bread triggered this, making cooking unnecessarily unpleasant. • Frequent False Fire Alarms: False alarms were a regular disruption, going off at all hours, including as late as 1 a.m. On some occasions, this happened weekly, requiring me to evacuate multiple floors repeatedly for no reason. • Wi-Fi Troubles: Initially, the Wi-Fi required daily authentication with a password, which was very inconvenient. Thankfully, this issue was eventually fixed. On a positive note, the modern design of the facilities and the beautiful aesthetic of the residence were commendable. I also want to highlight the helpfulness of the staff member on my last day, who assisted me with the strict cleaning policy during checkout, which otherwise felt overly rigid and unfair. In summary, while the property has great potential with its spacious rooms, excellent location, and modern facilities, the lack of proper customer service, unresolved maintenance issues, cooking restrictions, and frequent disruptions significantly detract from the overall experience. It’s a nice place but with serious shortcomings that should not occur at this price point.
