Finding accommodation in inner-city Sydney often comes down to how well the location fits around university, transport, and everyday life. Scape Sydney Central student accommodation sits at 483 Wattle St, Ultimo NSW 2007, putting residents in a part of the city surrounded by major educational institutions, shopping areas, cafés, parks and public transport connections.
Ultimo has a distinctly student-oriented character, helped by its proximity to universities and the wider Sydney CBD. From this location, residents can move between lectures, study sessions, grocery runs and social plans without having to treat each part of the week as a separate journey. The accommodation itself adds dedicated spaces for studying, cooking, exercising and spending time with other residents, giving students plenty of ways to use the property beyond their own room.
Scape Sydney Central caters to both domestic and international students, with a selection of shared apartments and private studio accommodation. Alongside the different room arrangements, residents have access to a gym, cinema room, study areas, communal kitchen, outdoor spaces and on-site events.
The room selection at Scape Sydney Central covers several shared apartment arrangements as well as a private studio. This gives students the choice between living alongside other residents and having a more independent setup.

The Twin Room in 8 Bed Apartment starts from A$449 per week. It is the lowest-priced option in the listed range and suits students who are comfortable with a larger shared apartment environment.
The Ultra Twin Apartment, starting from A$499, provides another shared arrangement. Students who want to live in a smaller apartment setting can consider the 6 Bed Apartment, from A$659, or the 4 Bed Apartment, from A$669.
At the private end of the range, the Ultra Studio starts from A$819 per week. A studio gives residents their own accommodation space, which can be useful for students who prefer greater privacy around their study and rest routines.
The different room arrangements also allow students to think about what they value most in their accommodation. Shared apartments can bring a more communal atmosphere into everyday living, while a private studio gives you more control over how you use your personal space.
The rent at Scape Sydney Central includes the essential utilities listed for the property, along with unlimited Wi-Fi.
Your weekly rent covers:
Unlimited Wi-Fi
Water Bill
Heating Bill
Gas Bill
Electricity Bill
Unlimited Wi-Fi is particularly useful for university life, where lectures, research, assignments and everyday communication all depend heavily on a reliable internet connection. Having water, heating, gas and electricity included alongside the rent also keeps the main household utilities together rather than requiring separate arrangements.
That makes the weekly accommodation cost easier to organise around other regular expenses such as food, transport, study materials and entertainment.
The experience at Scape Sydney Central extends well beyond the individual accommodation. The property has spaces for concentrated academic work, casual socialising, outdoor time, fitness and everyday chores, allowing residents to move between different parts of their routine without having to leave the building every time.
University work can look very different from one day to the next. Sometimes you need somewhere quiet to work alone; at other times, a group project or a change of surroundings makes a shared space more useful.
The Study Rooms provide dedicated areas for focused work, while the Study Lounge offers another setting for reading, revision and coursework. These spaces give residents alternatives to studying inside their own room, particularly during busier academic periods.
Once the day's work is finished, the Lounge Area provides somewhere to sit, chat and spend time with other residents. The Cinema Room adds a dedicated entertainment space for movie nights or a relaxed evening indoors.
The property also has a Rooftop Terrace, giving residents an outdoor setting above the surrounding streets. It can be used for sitting with friends, getting some fresh air or simply taking a break from the usual indoor routine.
For more outdoor space, the Outdoor Courtyards provide another shared area. The Bar-be-que (BBQ) Area makes these spaces particularly suited to casual gatherings, shared meals and social occasions when residents want to cook together.
On-site Events add another part to the community experience. These events give residents opportunities to meet people within the accommodation and take part in activities without having to organise everything independently.
The on-site Gym means residents have a fitness facility within the property itself. There is no need to build every workout around a separate journey across the city, which can be useful when university timetables already leave little room in the day.
The gym also gives students a straightforward option for maintaining some consistency in their routine alongside lectures, assignments and social commitments.
The practical facilities at Scape Sydney Central take care of several ordinary parts of living away from home.
The On-site Laundry allows residents to handle their washing within the property. A Communal Kitchen provides a shared cooking space where residents can prepare meals, eat together and spend time with other students.
Students who cycle around Sydney can also make use of the property's Bike Storage, giving them a dedicated place to keep their bicycle.
These facilities may not be the most visible part of student accommodation in Sydney, but they become useful quickly once daily life settles into a regular routine.
Security at Scape Sydney Central includes several measures intended to keep the accommodation controlled and monitored.
Residents have access to:
24-hour Security
On-Site Security
Secure Door Entry
CCTV
Sonder Safety App
The Secure Door Entry system helps control access to the building, while CCTV provides surveillance across the property. On-Site Security and 24-hour Security provide an additional physical presence.
The Sonder Safety App gives residents another safety resource that can be accessed when they need additional support.
The Scape Sydney Central address at 483 Wattle St, Ultimo NSW 2007 puts residents in the middle of Sydney's inner-city student landscape. Ultimo sits close to major universities, shopping precincts and transport routes, while the CBD is close enough to become part of everyday student life rather than somewhere reserved for occasional trips.
The neighbourhood also has a useful mixture of practical and social destinations. Students can pick up groceries, meet friends for coffee, head to a shopping centre, spend an afternoon in a park or travel towards another part of Sydney using the nearby public transport network.
Several transport options are available around Scape Sydney Central, giving residents different ways to reach university campuses, the CBD and other parts of the city.
Nearby bus stops include Harris St after Quarry St and Parramatta Rd opp Victoria Park. These provide routes connecting Ultimo with surrounding parts of Sydney.
For light rail journeys, residents can use the Exhibition Centre Light Rail and Paddy's Markets Light Rail stations. These stops provide another way to move through the inner city without relying entirely on buses or trains.
The accommodation is also within reach of major railway connections, including Central Grand Concourse station (Central Station) and Redfern Station. Central Station is particularly important for wider travel across Sydney and beyond the metropolitan area.
One of the main advantages of the Ultimo location is its proximity to several educational institutions.
University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is particularly close to the accommodation, making the location relevant for students who want to keep their commute short. The University of Sydney is also conveniently accessible, while Raffles College of Design and Commerce and the University of Notre Dame are within reach through the surrounding transport network.
For students attending different institutions, having several universities and transport options around the same neighbourhood can make the accommodation easier to fit around different academic schedules.
Living at Scape Sydney Central student accommodation means that most of the things students tend to look for during an ordinary week are already spread across the surrounding streets. Ultimo sits close to several shopping areas, food spots and city facilities, so residents have plenty of options when they need groceries, a quick meal, a coffee between classes or somewhere to spend an afternoon.
Grocery shopping does not have to become a major trip from the property. Coles Express, Ultimo Supermarket and IGO Supermarket provide nearby options for picking up everyday essentials, whether that means a few ingredients for dinner, snacks for the study desk or basic household supplies.
For a larger grocery run, Woolworths Metro at Central Park Mall is another option in the surrounding area. Having both smaller supermarkets and a larger retail-based grocery option gives residents some flexibility depending on what they need and how much they want to carry back.
Food is another part of the neighbourhood that gives Scape Central Sydney its inner-city character. There are several cafés and restaurants around the accommodation, ranging from casual places for a quick coffee to restaurants that work better for a proper meal.
Cafe Vulcan, Mr Jones Cafe, Local MBassy and Kafe Kooks are among the nearby café options. They give students places to grab breakfast, meet friends or take a break from studying without having to make a separate trip across the city.
For a more substantial meal, Kagoshima Master Yakiniku is another nearby option. Having a mixture of cafés and restaurants around the property makes the area useful for those evenings when cooking in the communal kitchen is simply not on the agenda.
The surrounding shopping areas also extend beyond basic groceries. Broadway Shopping Centre, Central Park Mall and World Square give residents access to a wider selection of shops, food outlets and everyday services.
Broadway Shopping Centre is particularly relevant to the local student area, while Central Park Mall provides another nearby destination for shopping and eating. World Square brings another section of Sydney's CBD within reach, giving residents more choice when they want to head into the city rather than stay around Ultimo.
Accommodation is only one part of choosing where to live during university. The places around the property also matter, particularly when a student wants somewhere to exercise, read, meet friends or simply get out of the building for a while.
The area surrounding Sydney Central Scape has a mixture of parks, libraries, fitness facilities and pubs, so leisure does not have to revolve entirely around the accommodation itself.
Several parks provide a change of scenery from the surrounding city streets.
Ultimo Park is one of the closest green spaces, while Wentworth Park, Fig Lane Park and Victoria Park provide additional options around the broader neighbourhood. These spaces can be useful for a short walk, sitting outside with a book or taking a break after spending several hours indoors.
Victoria Park, in particular, gives residents another sizeable outdoor setting close to the university precinct. For students who prefer to break up their week with some time outside, having several parks within the surrounding area adds another choice beyond cafés and shopping centres.
Students who prefer studying away from their accommodation can also make use of Ultimo Library and Darling Square Library.
The two libraries give residents alternative environments for reading, coursework and independent study. This can be useful when the study rooms at the property feel too familiar or when a student simply wants a quieter change of surroundings.
At the accommodation itself, residents also have access to dedicated study areas, so the nearby libraries work more as additional options rather than the only places available for academic work.
Fitness options around the property include ActivateFit.Gym, Movement Collective Pilates Broadway and UFC Gym Signature.
Each gives residents another way to structure exercise around their university timetable. The on-site gym at Scape Sydney Central already provides a convenient option for residents, while these nearby facilities offer alternatives for those looking for a different training environment or particular type of workout.
The surrounding area also has several pubs where residents can meet friends or spend an evening away from the accommodation.
Nearby options include Lord Wolseley Hotel, Vulcan Hotel and Glasgow Arms Hotel. Their presence adds another dimension to the local area, particularly for students who want to catch up with friends somewhere outside the residence.
There are several elements that come together at Scape Sydney Central student accommodation, and they cover much of what students need from a city-based residence.
The accommodation offers different room formats, from shared options through to private studio-style living. That gives students some choice over how much personal space they want and how they would prefer to structure their living arrangements.
The rent structure is another significant part of the property. Unlimited Wi-Fi, water, heating, gas, and electricity are included, so the main utilities are incorporated into the weekly accommodation cost. For students planning their finances around university, having those expenses grouped with rent can make the overall arrangement easier to keep track of.
The facilities also cover several different parts of student life. Study rooms and the study lounge provide dedicated academic spaces, while the lounge area, cinema room, rooftop terrace, outdoor courtyards and BBQ area create places to spend time away from coursework. The communal kitchen gives residents a shared space for preparing food, and the gym provides an on-site fitness option.
Safety and building support are another part of the property. 24-hour security, on-site security, secure door entry, CCTV and the Sonder Safety App form part of the accommodation's safety facilities. On-site laundry and bike storage also take care of some of the less exciting but necessary parts of living away from home.
Location ties the different pieces together. With Ultimo's universities, transport links, supermarkets, cafés, shopping centres, parks and other facilities surrounding the property, residents have access to a broad range of places without having to make every trip a journey across Sydney.
For anyone looking through Scape Sydney Central photos, the communal areas and outdoor spaces are also worth paying attention to alongside the individual rooms. The property is set up around a mixture of private accommodation and shared spaces, so the common areas form a substantial part of the overall living environment.
Choosing accommodation is one of the practical decisions that come with preparing to study in Sydney. Scape Sydney Central offers several room types, a range of shared and private facilities, all-inclusive rent and a location close to universities, transport and everyday amenities.
Students comparing their options can look through the available room types, check the weekly prices and consider which arrangement fits their preferred style of living. The combination of private space, communal areas, study facilities, fitness options and nearby city amenities gives residents several ways to organise their routine around university.
If Scape Sydney Central student accommodation fits your plans for studying in Sydney, you can explore the available accommodation options and compare the room types before securing your place through House of Student.

Renting with Scape has been a nightmare since the beginning. It's not worth the headache, avoid at all costs. First off, I was placed in a boys shared apartment instead of a girls shared apartment and they were difficult to deal with when making the switch. Also, the new apartment I was moved to had some damages, for example, the windows had no handles so the windows couldn't be shut completely, and the exhaust fan above one of the stoves didn't work. That exhaust fan was never fixed. Next, moving out was also a headache. According to NSW laws, "At the end of a tenancy, the tenant is responsible for leaving the property as near as possible to the same condition as when they started living in it. However, the tenant is not responsible for 'fair wear and tear'." I spent multiple hours cleaning the apartment and I left it as "near as possible to the same condition" when I started living in it. However, I got charged almost $300 AUD for cleaning fees. I have attached all of the photos from their "outgoing report" that shows the pictures of the condition my apartment was left in and what they considered to be dirty. I was definitely charged unfairly but I didn't have time to dispute it since I had an early flight that I couldn't miss.

Absolutely not worth it, paid 559 for a twin share (basically a small studio for 2 people), bathroom exhaust fan was not working, took a long time to fix (which in a bathroom with no windows, shared by two people, is quite important). Charge a minimum of ~300 cleaning fee, even if you leave the place better than you found it, honestly if you're leaving scape, don't bother to deep clean it, because they will still charge you. Also, the cleaning supplies you can borrow are quite deficient, when I asked for it, there were no window cleaning products, no paper towels or anything that can be utilized to use the products provided, just a sponge that had definitely seen better days ( would not say it's hygenic to reuse a sponge not knowing what other people cleaned with it)and had cleaning product with nothing left. Adding something so simple as a pack of desinfectant wipes ($4 in aldi) would be a big improvement. The vaccums always had hair accumulated that nobody took off. And floors were always still dirty, if they could provide a mop that uses mop wipes (so they can be thrown out after use and be more hygenic) would make a world of difference in helping us mantain a clean common area (and is a cheap thing to provide). The aircon in the gym never worked, so you can imagine the smell and the heat. The gym was also tiny for the amount of people and buildings. Community kitchen was always left dirty, because there are no wipes or paper towels available (having something with desinfectant wipes like the gym, would help people clean after themselves) And the laundry.... dear god the laundry. My clothes always got a musty smell after using the washer, changed multole times of washer, still the same, wiped it down and the gunk that came out🤢 the junction between the metal part and the black rubber, were clothes still touched was absolutely disgusting. Even after using and cleaning the same machine, there was always more gunk. This machines are honestly used more than a laundromat, should have more regular cleanings, because it evidently is not enough. The machines itself always smelled , which does not suprise me for the amount of use and that they were always left closed. And there was always some in out of order. If you are staying in scape, would recommend looking into redfdrn or cleveland, which are honestly much nicer. Study room were very small for the amount of students. I would also say that if you know you aren't going to go consistently to events, it's absolutely not worth it. Had problems with the kitchenett lights, thankfully for this they responded quickly, but they changed it to white cold lights, so when we were cooking and turned on the exhaust light, it felt like we were in the hospital operating room. PLEASE FOR FUTURE TENANTS CHANGE THE LIGHTS WITH WARM LIGHTS. Specially for the person that slept adjecent to the kitchen, it was really uncomfortable to be woken up by such harsh light.

My experience living here is better than I expected. I’m lucky that my roomates are really nice & clean so the common areas is always clean. The room is not as bad as I thought aswell eventhough its small but its not very small that its hard for you to walk around. Its nice aswell to not have to pay bills (water, electricity, wifi) They provided a cleaning service every month, but I feel like the cleaning service is not as clean as I thought and I noticed the floor is still quite dirty aswell which is such a shame :( Overall, the wifi, the aircon I think it work perfectly ! one time my toilet got clogged and they fix it right away. I’ve filled complains in the past and they try to fix it which I’m so grateful for and appreciate scape for it.

Do not live in any Scape buildings, but specifically Scape Sydney Central. The amount that I pay for rent, facilities, laundry, cleaning, etc. is absolutely absurd considering the extremely low quality. I am not picky at all when it comes to living conditions, but this was truly horrible. There was so much mold in our room when we moved in, but Scape refused to handle it when we brought up concerns about this to them. Also, the move out cleaning fee is almost $300 AUD (minimum), basically regardless of if your room is perfectly clean or not. These standards are greedy, and money is constantly charged for little to no reason when we are already paying so much for such horrible conditions. I try not to blame the workers that I’ve talked to in person here, but I honestly have not had a positive or kind interaction with any of them either. Save your money and have a better experience genuinely anywhere else. Australia is the best place in the world, though, which is the only thing that can make up for this disappointment.

Absolutely filthy conditions upon arriving in to student apartment. Please see photos attached. How they let the previous student end their lease and allowed the next occupant to arrive without a thorough end of lease check is beyond comprehension. We had to wait until they found us another share apartment. The shared kitchen / living room had not been checked nor cleaned for months. There was food over every surface and rubbish spread over the floor. The apartment was west facing and overheating in the afternoon. There were cobwebs on the window. For $780 a week with shared kitchen and private bathroom, this is a rip off. The gym had limited functioning equipment and not all the washing machines worked so it was difficult to get any washing done. Some staff were helpful, but one in particular everyone was scared of and avoided. We were very glad when we moved our child out of here after six months. It’s a rip off and the owners should be ashamed. Avoid. I understand it is almost impossible to find student accommodation in Sydney and Scape takes advantage of this, especially for overseas students. Is it possible to give ZERO stars? Appalling.
