I’m actually surprised that no one is mentioning the recent fire incident and the forced relocation of residents. I have lived at UniLodge South Bank for two years and have been in my current room for over 18 months. I originally reapplied for this room because I have a medical certificate recommending a well-lit room with good natural light for my wellbeing. Management was aware of this requirement. Last month, the building experienced a serious fire. Residents were evacuated at around 7:30 am through smoke-filled corridors. The fire itself was already an extremely distressing experience, but what followed was even worse. We were left outside for the entire day with almost no communication. It was not until around 10:00 pm that management finally emailed residents to say we could return to our rooms. We spent over 14 hours waiting outside without any meaningful updates or support. Only weeks later, residents on the affected side of the building were informed that we must permanently relocate due to major remediation works, including replacing the building’s bin chutes and repairing fire damage. We were given only one month to vacate our homes. Although UniLodge says it will waive lease break and cleaning fees, residents are still expected to organise and pay for all moving costs themselves, despite the relocation being entirely outside our control. I responded to the relocation email within minutes because I wanted to remain in the same building. Despite submitting a medical certificate requesting a bright room with good natural light, I was offered a room on Level 3 directly above the outdoor garbage area, facing another building only ~10 metres away. It receives significantly less natural light than my current room and completely ignores my documented medical needs. What is particularly frustrating is that while existing residents affected by the fire are being forced to leave their homes, rooms continue to be advertised or made available to new applicants. It is difficult to understand how there are supposedly no suitable rooms available for long-term residents while new applicants are still being accommodated. Some residents who chose to relocate to another UniLodge property have also been offered rooms that are smaller and significantly more expensive than their current rooms. Many of us originally chose UniLodge South Bank because of its larger rooms, queen-sized beds and better value. Now, because of an incident that was entirely outside our control, we are expected to either accept a downgrade in our living conditions or pay substantially higher rent. To date, residents have still not received a clear explanation about the cause of the fire, whether the investigation has been completed, or who was responsible. Instead, long-term residents are simply being told to move out with very limited choices. After living here for two years, I expected much better. The fire itself may have been unavoidable, but the lack of transparency, poor communication, disregard for residents’ wellbeing, and the treatment of long-term residents afterwards have been extremely disappointing.

Love the environment here because they are always offering various events and free food like coffee and pastries. The rooms are spacious with windows you can actually open and the location is perfect since it is near the train and bus stations with plenty of groceries nearby. The ground and second floor lounges are very comfy and the cleaning service for the unit's common area and bathroom is a nice surprise. The receptionists and maintenance team are also very friendly, responsive, and helpful. However there are some downsides like the AC and water temperature being hard to regulate and the fridge sorting system can be confusing even with the numbers. There are some minor maintenance issues like scratches on the walls, curling carpets, and occasional leaks on the ceiling. I saw some cockroaches during summer but they are rare now. Also had an experience once where the fire alarm went off at night which was quite annoying but it doesn't happen often. Overall the facilities and community vibe still make it a great place to stay.

I read many of the reviews, and I find something very interesting 😂😂and trigger my memory💣. -First of all, avoid a specific multi-share room located on first floor. If you go through all the comments, you can see this problematic room appears several times on different reviewers’. Luckily this is the room I had been designated to, and as what other reviewers who have stayed there: noise from train station and pedestrians in smoking area, and the smell of smoke are the features of that unit. -Bills: you may want to have a better understanding of how their “room changing fee “ and “bond cleaning fee “ are calculated. Besides, it’s helpful to ask a staff to email you a bill statement-sometimes they will get confused of how the bill is composited. Understand that that if you want to leave this place, the cost will be 4 weeks of rent on top of the cleaning fee. -Staff attitudes: I can see a mixed comment about how everyone’s experience on front desk employees. Personally, I try to be as polite as I can in the first place. However, they have no intention to solve most of the issues and only ask you back. My personal experience is that the maintenance staff is polite but some front desk staffs and some managers are not. I can see the management team keep replying on how they are dedicated and welcoming. Maybe they take preference on different guests. -Intruders and Keycard: staff may accidentally enter into your bedroom at the middle of night-sounds unbelievable right? This is what I experienced. And $20 each time if you forget your keycard after hour. And they will accidentally cut your keycard out of whatever reasons😂 -Cockroaches: many people mention about them and yes, I see these lovely animals too! In addition, the smell on each floors garbage room is horrible 😅. -I will see whether to share some good experiences or share some tips on how to survive in this building after I review the replies from usb team. Someone else keeps taking Uber delivery from the reception, but they don't solve the fundamental problem with this. And after changing the shower head, the water pressure was reduced by a third. Even the warm water doesn't come out well. Just don't come lol
