About this property

Emily Davies

Emily Davies Accommodation in Southampton

If you've never lived in Southampton before, the first few weeks usually involve figuring out which routes actually save time. You learn where to grab lunch between lectures, which supermarket becomes your regular stop, and how far you're willing to walk after a long day on campus.

Emily Davies accommodation fits into that routine quite naturally. Located on Fitzhugh Street, it keeps Southampton Solent University, the city centre and Southampton Central Station within easy reach, so getting around rarely becomes part of the day's planning. The apartments also suit students who prefer a little more personal space while still having shared facilities available when they want a change of scene.

Emily Davies House Southampton – Address & Location

Address

Emily Davies
1 Fitzhugh Street
Southampton SO15 2PU
United Kingdom

The first week at university usually involves walking everywhere. You figure out which supermarket is closest, where to grab lunch between lectures and how long it actually takes to reach campus before a 9 a.m. class. Living somewhere central makes those first few weeks much less stressful.

The Emily Davies location places you within walking distance of Southampton city centre and close to Southampton Central railway station, giving you easy access to both local travel and longer journeys home.

Around the neighbourhood you'll find:

  • Supermarkets for weekly grocery shopping

  • Independent cafés and coffee shops

  • Restaurants and takeaways

  • Westquay Shopping Centre

  • The Marlands Shopping Centre

  • Southampton Central Railway Station

  • Local bus routes across the city

For many students, the location becomes one of the biggest reasons to shortlist Emily Davies accommodation, simply because daily errands don't require crossing the city.

Why Students Choose Emily Davies Accommodation

Students usually narrow accommodation down to three questions.

Can I get to university easily?

Living here means Southampton Solent University, Southampton Central Station, supermarkets and the city centre are all nearby. Once classes begin, having most places within walking distance saves more time than many students expect.

Will the costs stay predictable?

Rent already includes utility bills, Wi-Fi and contents insurance, so your monthly budget stays much easier to manage. There are fewer payments to remember and no surprise utility bills arriving halfway through the semester.

Does the accommodation suit the way I want to live?

Unlike buildings that only offer one style of room, Emily Davies accommodation includes one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments. That flexibility makes it easier to choose a space that matches your budget and the amount of privacy you're looking for.

Many students comparing Emily Davies Southampton with other properties end up choosing it because the location and apartment layouts continue to work long after the excitement of moving in has passed.

Emily Davies Halls of Residence Facilities

A building becomes more useful when the shared spaces fit naturally into student life instead of sitting empty for most of the year.

Some evenings you'll need somewhere quiet to finish coursework. Other days you might just want to watch a film, meet neighbours for a while or step outside after hours of revision. The facilities across Emily Davies halls of residence give you those options without leaving the building.

I’ve really enjoyed living here as a student – it’s a comfortable and well-managed place to call home during term time. The room is a good size for a student, with plenty of storage, a proper desk and chair, and enough space to feel relaxed rather than cramped. The Wi‑Fi has been reliable, which is essential for online lectures, coursework and video calls, and there are plenty of plugs so I can have my laptop, phone and other devices on the go at the same time. What I appreciate most is that the building is generally quiet enough to study, especially in the evenings and during exam time. The study areas are really helpful when I need a change of scene from my room, and it’s easy to find a spot to work alone or with friends. At the same time, there are social spaces where you can hang out, watch TV or chat without disturbing people who want peace and quiet. The location is ideal for student life – close to campus, shops and bus routes, so I don’t waste time commuting or carrying heavy bags too far. Staff are friendly and approachable, and maintenance issues are dealt with quickly, which makes a big difference when something breaks or needs checking. Overall, it’s a safe, well-run place that has made my university experience much less stressful and much more enjoyable.

I’ve had a great experience staying here, the place is well-managed and comfortable. Michael, the property manager, is always helpful and attentive. Lily from customer support makes everything easy to sort out and Martin from maintenance keeps everything running smoothly. Couldn’t ask for a better team!

I would not recommend living here. The property has ongoing maintenance issues that have not been adequately addressed despite multiple reports. The hot water only works for around 15 minutes at a time and takes roughly two hours to reset, and management have stated that this problem has existed for around three years and is unlikely to be resolved soon. The kitchen has experienced three major leaks, and there is a recurring problem with silverfish throughout the property. Additionally, the walls are extremely thin, making it easy to hear conversations and footsteps from neighbouring flats, including ones above.

Cannot recommend this place enough, I stayed here for my second year and had such an amazing time, the staff are so friendly and it feels really secure also it’s in a really good place being not far from the city centre, there are lots of events on which are fun to get involved with, all around perfect ☺️
